RHEL4 to Fedora 9
by Irfan Malik
Hello,
Is there any simple way to upgrade to Fedora 9 from RHEL4? I don't have
machine access and have to upgrade remotely.

weird graphics characters when logged into runlevel 3
by Don Raikes
Hello,
When I boot into run level 3 (console mode), I "see" a lot of random graphics characters on my display.
Actually I am blind, and am running brltty which shows "?" characters where there are graphics characters.
My daughter looked at teh screen a few days ago and said there were indeed single and double virtical lines running through the display making it almost impossible to see anything else on the display.
System configuration:
Gateway desktop with a radeon 9600 video card, dell 9000 monitor
fedora 10 with all updates applied from yum.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
BTW: when I run gnome, and open a terminal window the problem is not present.

F10 - system hangs after anacron OK
by Robert Moskowitz
Everything was working OK yesterday. I did do a yum update (had been a
few days since the last one, but don't think I got a new kernel).
Now it just sits there after anacron started with an OK.
What do I do to get this going???

Way OT: DIY printer repair
by awrobinson-ml@nc.rr.com
The paper grabber on my Samsung ML-1710 laser printer has stopped
grabbing paper. The printer errors out on just about every sheet. I
certainly have gotten my money's worth out of this printer, but if I
could fix it, that would be very cool. Anyone know of any links or sites
that would direct me in determining if the printer is fixable and how to
do so?
Thanks!

XFCE screensaver daemon
by Carroll Grigsby
I installed the xfce Fedora 10 spin a few weeks ago and I'm quite
pleased with it. However, I have encountered an annoying bug with the
screen saver. Each time I log in, I have to open the xfce Settings
Manager, pick Screensaver. close the Gnome screensaver daemon and open
the xscreensaver daemon. If I don't, I get the default Gnome behavior
of a black screen with a login window. Ugly and not necessary. What do
I have to do to avoid this nuisance?

F10 freezes when running glxgears
by Konstantin Svist
I just built a new system and installed F10-KDE from the Live CD.
The CD refused to boot into full graphical/install mode so I used text
install.
It looks like the system now freezes when there are certain graphical
applications being run.
glxgears always makes the system freeze. I'm sure there are others, but
this one is easiest to test.
Interesting tidbits:
* glxgears runs smoothly for a second or two before the freeze.
* there's a bit of very faint high-pitched whining (apparently from my
video card) while glxgears is running. Not sure if that's normal. Never
had problems with this card before, though.
* SysRq/REISUB doesn't work. I've tested it without the freeze and it
works like a charm, then.
Hardware:
Q6600
Asus P5N7A-VM
ATI X800 GT (X800PRO)
There's no xorg.conf, X automatically recognizes everything. According
to Xorg.0.log, ati/radeon driver is used. I've tried creating xorg.conf
with system-config-display (no effect), and tried setting it to radeonhd
(my videocard is not supported by it).
Can't try fglrx, as it's not available yet...
What is the next step, if there is one?
Thanks,
Konstantin

A fully Off Topic Post.....
Wishing each and every one of you....a very Happy New Year....
I was going to include the URL of a YouTube video of the fireworks at
Taipei 101 here in Taiwan. But it is already 1:25AM on 1/1/2009 and I
hear a pillow calling my name. I'm sure you'll find it if you look....
It should finish uploading while I count some sheep....
FWIW, I will refrain from doing the came on CNY.

Thanks for the suggestions but I would really like to figure out what happened and what is the correct way to configure fuse.
Does anyone have a link to some fuse docs?
I'm getting ready to upgrade to F9 but I'm waiting until the EOL date in case someone at RedHat decides to take at look at this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218181
and I'd like to have my configuration correct before I upgrade.

Dear list,
I have an HP m8200n Desktop computer and it has a remote control for media
center purposes. I was wondering how I could set the remote control up and
use it with anything, like movie player, for example. Can anybody help me
