Fedora 10, openjdk and BlueJ
by Frank Murphy
Can I get all 3 to play nice,
if so how.
When I try /usr/bin/java -jar bluej-250.jar
and the BlueJ winow pops up.
I browse to /usr/lib/jvm/
BlueJ, tell me I need to use the java jdk which contains tools.jar
Openjdk doesn't seem to have this.
Before I trawl sun.com, should I report this as a bug?
Is tools.jar allowed in openjdk?

Hi Tim
I have never tried to put them in "~/.bashrc". I will give it a try.
(currently I have no access to the machine).
So, do you think that it should just work when I logout and login again.
When I finish downloading the F10 LiveCD i686 iso, I will do fresh
intallation again using i686 and want to see whether this problem will
persist.
Thank you

Re: F10 Crash on laptop Radeon 200M
by Wade Hampton
Update: I used the nomdeset kernel option and the laptop is now usable
(add nomodeset to the kernel line in /etc/grub.conf).
The laptop is still in runlevel 3 and I have to use startx to start X windows
but it works. However, when I tried to logout of X, the laptop hung so
all is not fixed.
There are several bugs on RedHat's bugzilla that are tracking this
or related issues. The one I posted to is 467821, reported by
Dave Jones, 10/20/08.

Hope all had a good turkey day and got out their Christmas/Holiday decorations!

X display errors on some programs preventing them from opening
by Claude Jones
Firefox, Yumex, among others are not opening (kind of makes it hard to Google
for help); running from the icon, I just get a long initial display of the
icon in the panel, then it vanishes and the program never opens; running from
the command line, I get this output (in part):
*************************************************
yumex
The program 'yumex.pyc' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadName (named color or font does not exist)'.
*************************************************
I googled this from a different machine and found a lot of references to xfs
being deprecated, and turning it off; I tried turning it off with chkconfig
and restarting X, but no joy
Does anyone know what I might try next?

KDE 4 and display power management
by Alberto Ferrante
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
Dear all,
I noticed that the display power management of KDE 4 in Fedora gets
periodically broken. It was working just fine until the last xorg update
in Fedora 9 and then it got broken again. I was hoping it was fixed in
Fedora 10, but it is not.
The problem is that, if you enable any screensaver, you cannot get the
power management to work correctly: the screensaver will run forever
without allowing the power management module to switch off the monitor
after some time. I am experiencing this problem on two PCs with
different video cards.
Is there anybody else experiencing this problem? Any workaround (well,
except switching off the screensaver, which I have already done)?
I thank you in advance for your reply.
Best regards,
Alberto

Fedora 10, GNOME Keyboard rate and delay
by Pasan
I upgraded from Fedora 9 to Fedora 10.
I found that my keyboard repeat delay is too short. The settings in
"System->Preferences-Hardware->Keyboard" has no effect on actual keyboard
typematic rate and delay.
I've my "xorg.conf" continued from Fedora 9 as follows. I use a Intel945GC
