Radeon DRM issues and filling up /var/log with gigabytes of logging

I'm running FC11 with: xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.6.4-0.1.fc11.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.2-14.fc11.x86_64 kernel-2.6.30.9-92.fc11.x86_64 etc. The hardware is an Asus M3A78-CM motherboard with onboard video. This is rendering the machine largely unusable, because rpmbuild, mock, sendmail, etc. all need large amounts of space on /var. My config file is below. Anyone know what the remedy to this issue is? Hello, In fedora 11, it is still the version 2007 of tex-live which available. When 2008 is going to be available ? I installed Fedora 11 in text mode. Now I would like to install KDE environment. I don't want install play, video, office tool and other things only kde environment to manage the server. Which is/are the rpm to install? Thanks Andrea

How does one remove the nvidia driver and install nouveau ?

I need to test my computer with the nouveau driver in order to provide information for a bug report I contributed. Besides, I would like to see how well the open source driver works compared to the proprietary one. So how does one remove the nvidia driver and install the nouveau driver in its place ? I recently started using akmod-nvidia. I suspect that its built and installed an nvidia kernel module. I did a yum remove kmod-nvidia and yum remove akmod-nvidia. I edited xorg.conf and changed nvidia to nouveau, but I did not change any of the module paths. I did a modprobe nouveau. lsmod shows that its there. I did an rmmod -w nvidia in an attempt to uninstall the module. But when I reboot, it still runs. Now what do I do ? Edit xorg.conf ? rmmod ? lsmod ? insmod ? Thanks

Curiosity re: Rhythmbox and CD places fix ?!?

I just did a yum update; somewhere in there was the fix for Rhythmbox finding my CD/DVD drive as well as the icon for the CD/DVD drive showing in 'Places' on my menu. They Work. Which downloaded update had the fixes? Just curious. Using sftp through HTTP authenticating proxy

I'd like to use sftp to connect to a system on the outside but have to go through an HTTP proxy. When I try to connect, I get an error back from the proxy server saying Authentication is required. nc: Proxy error: "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required" ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host The question is: How/where do I specify the userid/password for this authentication? I added this line to my ~/.sh/ssh_config file for the appropriate outside host: ProxyCommand /usr/bin/nc -v -X connect -x <my Proxy Server Address>:443 %h %p If it's any help, I can use puTTY to connect to to other outside systems, and I go through that same proxy/port. In putty I specify my proxy userid/password and all is well. How do I get sftp to do that too? I've read through man 5 ssh_config and just don't see it... and I also do not see anything in man nc :-( Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

How to tell IP address of remote machine?

I had a little program which I ran each day as a cron job to mail me the IP address of a machine in a different country. I give the program sm.py below; I can't remember where I found it. In any case, the program has ceased to work because the site heliohost seems to have gone off-line. I wonder if anyone knows of an alternative site which I could substitute?
