I am having a problem in configuring access the VPN using protocol PPTP, am using network to manager to make this configuration, I followed all steps, but I am not getting success in the connection attempt. BlueTooth in IBM T60

I have an IBM T60, which supposedly has a Bluetooth subsystem, but with an up-to-date F11 system, when I use the Gnome Bluetooth tool, it claims that there are no adapters on my system. I tried seeing if there was perhaps an ACPI file that I could manually enable it with, but no such luck: [mleech@localhost ~]$ ls /proc/acpi/ibm beep brightness cmos driver fan hotkey led light thermal video volume No "bluetooth" file to send an "enable" to. Is this a known issue with the IBM/Lenovo T60 laptop?

New Chromium for x86_64?

Starting tonight, my F11.x86_64 system wants to update my chromium-4.0.273.0-0.1.20091216svn34775.fc11.x86_64 with: chromium-4.0.277.0-0.1.20091221svn35107.fc11.i586 Why is there no new package for x86_64? -- Kevin J. Dictionaries & Spellcheckers

I put a dictionary on my panel -- one of two in the Main Menu; and I *think* the spellcheckers for gedit and alpine are different. I'm forever having to add entries to the latter two, and would to the dictionary on the panel if I could. Is there one single most compendious dictionary available for Fedora? Can I replace all three of mine with it? Or if not, can I merge all three, once and for all? It seems a pointless waste to have to add "frobnosticate" or "yclept" thrice .... -- Beartooth Staffwright, Neo-Redneck Not Quite Clueless Power User I have precious (very precious!) little idea where up is.

Missing posts again ??

Hi; I am once again not receiving some posts from the fedora-list. About half of the posts listed in the mail-list archives for this weekend have not yet (??) appeared in my Evolution's Fedora search folder. This happened several months ago for some unfathomable reason, then straightened itself out. Everything has been fine until now. What I really want to know, is there anyway to make 'fedora-list' re-send a block of emails or selected emails that are in the archives but have not yet arrived here? -- Regards Bill Fedora 12, Gnome 2.28 Evo.2.28, Emacs 23.1.1

Bluetooth mouse is randomly disabled

I use a Logitech V470 BT mouse with my EeePC 1000. On F11 everything Just Worked, but on F12 I have to manually pair the mouse (using "sudo hidd --server-search") and even then it regularly disconnects. udev and user-space access

Hi, I've just been trying to access a digital camera over USB on FC10, and encountered a problem involving udev. I could not access the digital camera (Ricoh Caplio G4) from any of the graphics programs such as gThumb or DigiKam. (I could on earlier versions of FC.) The error message in FC10 stated that the software could not get control of the USB device (permission denied). I have found that manually giving users (not root) RW access to the appropriate /dev/ file fixes the problem. However, if I write a rule in (say) /etc/udev/rules.d/45-cameras.rules that sets the group to "users" and the mode to "660", the problem isn't actually fixed automatically. It turns out that my new rule causes the permissions to be set on /dev/usbdev{bus}.{device}_ep{XYZ}, whereas the graphics programs are trying to access the device through /dev/bus/usb/00{bus}/00{device}. And sadly, the %p value in the rule is not equivalent to either of these. Having spent all day on trying various things that don't work, I have currently added a RUN+= option to my rule that does a (shotgun) fix: "chgrp -R users /dev/bus/usb/*; chmod -R g+rw /dev/bus/usb/*" Q1: So what is the best practice for fixing udev permissions so that a USB device allows user-mode access? Reading various docs on the udev site suggests I write a permissions file. I see that there is not even a /etc/udev/permissions.d directory on my Fedora installation, so any file I write would be the one and only file. The udev doc says: "New permissions should be placed in a file, which ends in .permissions in /etc/udev/permissions.d/. Please do not use 50-udev.permissions." Q2: What should a line in a permissions file look like? Q2a: Are they anything like those in /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms? <console> 0600 <pilot> 0660 root.uucp Thanks in advance for any and all responses. Cheers! Nik

Problem with gstreamer

It's the first time I open Ryththmbox since I upgraded and it seems there's a problem. When I click the icon, it doesn't open. Support for my USB UMTS stick -> which package to patch?

Hi, I'm using a Huawei K3765 UMTS stick. I got it working using usb_modeswitch and a specific 'MessageContent'. After that the device changes its usb id and can be used as a modem. Now I want this stick to be supported by Fedora out of the box so I was looking around where I need to send patches. As this kind of hardware has an enormous amount of bugs/specific quirks, there are some projects that deal specifically with these topics: - usb_modeswitch -> very specialised, not used by NetworkManager - modem-modeswitch (udev) -> very limited functionality, 'option-zerocd' does not help for my device - ModemManager -> as far as I can see no support for switching usb ids. -> however this software is made to support hardware quirks So which software should I tackle in order to get my device supported? fs

F12, GRUB, and dual booting irritation

Who was the genius that changed the GRUB config updating process? Up until now, whenever a new kernel update came a long, GRUB's configuration file would remain basically the same, which would mean I didn't have to go in and manually set GRUB to boot to my Windows partition by default every single time. The Windows boot line(s) would stay neatly at the bottom of the file, and the "default=" line always pointed to 3 (if I remember correctly). Now under Fedora 12, every update screws that up, by setting the default to 0. Now, I thought I had a solution after the previous kernel update: move my Windows boot configuration to the start of the boot configuration list, so it would be item 0, but the latest kernel update proved that this wasn't a solution either: the new kernel boot config is now at position 0, followed by Windows, then another two Fedora kernels... Is there a way to get the old behavior (pre-F12) back with F12? Is this just a bug, and should I file it as such? Thanks, Raymond
