Thanks for lights.

If you want yum-updatesd to actually do the updates you must set all
three of the above to yes.
I also set :
emit_via = syslog
dbus_listener = no
yum-updatesd silently does all updates for me on several machines.

Problem with using wireless usb adapter
by Brian Wood
I'm having some trouble getting internet/ssh working over
a Linksys wireless usb adapter -- model WUSB54GSC.
I did get it working one time, but don't know why or if
I did something to make it work. I see the access
point I want to use and connect to it. That seems to work.
Then iwconfig reports
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan2 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"brian"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.432 GHz Access Point: 00:1C:10:3B:06:97
Bit Rate=36 Mb/s Tx-Power=14 dBm

Link Quality=57/100 Signal level=57/100
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
But bringing up a URL or ssh'ing to another machine doesn't work.
I'm using Fedora 12. If I use an ethernet cable instead of the
wireless, everything works fine. Any ideas on what to check
or do?
Also in a separate matter ...
With F11 the screen saver would gradually (fade in), but with F12 it
happens suddenly. I would like to have it fade in gradually again
on F12. I've looked at the screen saver preferences but didn't
see a way to control that. How can I make it behave the way I
want? TIA

Another preupgrade update mess up
by Alan Cox
Only this time I know what happened.
A word of warning. Pre-upgrade has a fun failure mode which occurs
because it doesn't lock out updates from occurring behind its back. An
update while preupgrade was sitting waiting a couple of hours for me to ok
the reboot pulled in some new packages for the old distro...
So if you are using preupgrade, make sure you shut down automatic updates
and the like first.

Problem with yum update and libxvidcore4.x86_64
by Charlie McVeigh
I have had a problem for the last 5 weeks or so whenever I run the "yum
update" command on my F11 machine. No amount of research or reading up
on yum and rpm have allowed me to correct my problem. So I am turning
to the wizards here on the Fedora List for help.
Any help deciphering and correcting my error would be most appreciated.
Here is my error when I run "yum update":

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

disable reboot/shutdown for xfce user
by Herbert Gasiorowski
I am not able to stop xfce-session to allow reboot or shutdown at logout!
It works with F11 - probably using the PolicyKit like with Gnome and kde.
(I do not understand that each and every program has to be configured
seperately to disable it ...)

Problem to mount floppy after update to kernel-PAE-2.6.31.6-145.fc12.i686
by Joachim Backes
After applying the most recent FC12 updates I have problems to mount
floppies: The device /dev/fd0 is lost, and I have to do call "modprobe
floppy" for getting the floppy operable
(kernel-PAE-2.6.31.6-145.fc12.i686).
No such problem with kernel-PAE-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.
Anybody has similar problems?
UDEV problem?
Installed: libudev-145-14.fc12.i686, udev-145-14.fc12.i686
