has K3B been abandoned?
by Fred Silsbee
K3b is a piece of work...
I have 2 CD/DVD burner drives
Plextor $120+
Sony $50
Fedora doesn't like the Plextor...I guess
after downloading F10 for 9.5 hours, I tried to burn a ISO-DVD.
The simplest operation?
I wasted 4 blanks making 3 final copies that haved been checked to be good!.
The Plextor would get an error and then hang K3B
I'd kill it with kill -9 and then the drive would be locked up and even hung the eject command.
I had to reboot to open the drive. Sometimes I have to reboot to do a second operation!
and even once the "bring things back" facility had the #$%& thing running again.
OH YES! an old error reported forever
When making an ISO DVD, the verify write facility still doesn't work
even on the Sony drive. It says "couldn't find a DVD to verify.
Make things easy: if there is an error:
(1) release the drive announcing ithat the DVD is no longer blank!
(2) eject the DVD
(3) terminate all processes and subprocesses that stay running(i.e. die and go away)
(4) work on the program some more.

F10 Dependency Problems - Nvidia Drivers
by Charlie McVeigh
The last 3 waves of updates for F10 have all started causing me
dependency problems with regard to
my nvidia video drivers. I am not sure whats up but I was wondering
if someone far more enlightened
than me could help me with my current upgrade SNAFU. I have waited a
couple of days to see it this
problem disappears due to repository syncing issues, but it has not.
When doing a yum update I am getting the following error message:

Easiest Way To Move Thunderbird Mail Folders To Another Computer?
by Robert L Cochran
I have a .thunderbird email client folder on a Fedora 7 x86_64 system
that I need to move to a Fedora 10 x86 system. It occurs to me that if I
move this, and then start thunderbird on the new system, I might have
trouble because of 64-bit code. Also trouble with updating Enigmail. I
want to be sure I can sign and encrypt email messages. Am I better off
just moving
.thunderbird/[salt].default/Mail/*
.thunderbird/[salt].default/abook.mab
What file(s) store the email account information?
Or, to make a long story short, can I just tar up all of .thunderbird
and not worry about conflicts on the 32-bit system?

Has anybody else been experiencing problems with F10 hanging?
by Kevin Martin
I'm getting some strange things happening on F10 lately. In a terminal
session if I "ps -ef" or "w" or "ls" or anything of that nature the
command runs (sometimes) but never returns the prompt. Also, my loadavg
seems to go sky high but "top" doesn't necessarily show anything using
much CPU (actually, top will often show that my cpu utilization is 90+%
idle while my loadavg is upwards of 10). I can usually shutdown my
"gui"fied apps (like Thunderbird, Firefox, VirtualBox) but if I try and
reboot the reboot hangs while trying to shutdown "automount" and I have
to cycle the power on the box. I'm running the latest updates including
kernel 2.6.27.15-170.2.24.fc10.i686. Any thoughts or suggestions are
appreciated.
Thanks.

gyachi Problems
by mike
Installed gyachi using YUM and all appeared cool. Everything (including
Webcam) until I tried to go to Audio Chat.
Then I get
tsd22.dll
tssoft.acm
Can not be found.
DUH! Anyone tried this before? Yahoo Messenger clone is the last thing
I need to move to a pure Fedora Desktop.
Thanks in advance to anyone.

I use 'docker'[1]. This tool has been the sole reason i switched back to using WindowMaker after having to compromise on using Gnome with all it's bells and whistles, for a long time.
After starting docker (and docking the app), you can start off any of the gnome-panel applets and they will appear in docker.
I prefer starting off:
pidgin -n
gnome-power-manager
network-manager
If you are a regular user of WindowMaker, you might already know about the file ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart, where you can start up network-manager on login.
(note, i am not on my laptop right now, so can't confirm the exact commandline, if you have trouble, please let me know and I'll send you my configs when I can)
HTH

postfix update strangeness?
by Tom Horsley
This is probably one of those things I don't really want to
know the answer to, but it looked strange so I though I'd ask:
Just updated a system, and rather than getting a new version
of postfix merely because it was updated, it seemed to go through
some convoluted reasoning process to give me a new version:
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
...
---> Package postfix-perl-scripts.i386 2:2.5.6-1.fc10 set to be updated
--> Processing Dependency: postfix = 2:2.5.6-1.fc10 for package: postfix-perl-scripts
--> Running transaction check
---> Package postfix.i386 2:2.5.6-1.fc10 set to be updated
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Dependencies Resolved
================================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
================================================================================
Installing:
postfix-perl-scripts i386 2:2.5.6-1.fc10 updates 60 k
replacing postfix.i386 2:2.5.5-1.fc10
Updating:
...
Updating for dependencies:
postfix i386 2:2.5.6-1.fc10 updates 3.8 M
Is postfix-perl-scripts being split out of what used to be a combined
package or something, and this is how it looks when I update?

Boot display -
by Bob Goodwin
Another question I know has been answered before but I haven't found it.
How do I restore the normal boot text display using inittab set to 3?
All I see now is a blue progress bar.
