Re: Are you using LXDE?
by Steven I Usdansky
Using it on my Acer Aspire One. I like the fact that it's lighter weight than GNOME, both in terms of disk space and memory usage. I'd really like to see it on a Live CD. The presence of XFCE is irrelevant when running from the Live CD, and removing XFCE has got to be easier than removing GNOME.

rhythmbox software is lacking
by Aaron Konstam
I don't know about F10 and F11 but of F9 rhythmbox is the only CD
reading software that refuses to load CD information like a playlist.
Can someone explain how to make it work properly.?

Bluetooth rfcomm -- enabling serial stuff for a cell phone
by Jud Craft
Hey there.
I'm trying to use BitPim for one of my cell phones, but BitPim seems
to only work well with COM ports. From an article at Ars Technica
[1], I read how to map a Bluetooth channel to a com-port using
/etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf. (Under Windows the mapping is done
automatically, but you must specify it in Linux, I guess).
Here's the deal: Bluetooth doesn't map the channel automatically at
startup, even though that's the purpose of rfcomm.conf.
Ars Technica mentions that in the Bluetooth properties in GNOME, you
must check the "Enable Serial" option to activate the rfcomm mappings.
However, I know that the Bluetooth stack in GNOME has been changed
from Bluez to something new (just the generic gnome-bluetooth, I
guess), and it does not provide this option.
That article was written before the new Bluetooth stack, so I can't
find an option to enable the rfcomm mappings. If I manually issue a
command from the console (like "rfcomm connect /dev/rfcomm0 [MAC
address of phone] [channel number]") I get a "permission denied", and
if I do that as root, BitPim can see it but not use it. So I can't do
it on my own manually; the correct workflow and permissions to do it
elude me.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Audio problem in fedora 9
by ADITYA KRISHNAN
Hello,
I use fedora 9 with 2.6.27.21-78.2.41.fc9.i686 kernel.
I have the Intel 82801H (ICH8 family) HD Audio Controller sound card system
on my laptop run with the ALSA driver (1.0.17) on f9.
The sound works perfectly fine until I hibernate my laptop and turn it on
again. On turning my laptop on from the hibernate mode the sound drivers
dont seem to work, however, I found that if I switch to a different virtual
terminal (ctrl +alt+f1) and then back to the default x window terminal in f9
(alt+ctrl +f7) then magically the sound of the system gets restored back.
It seems completely wierd that switching terminals solves the problem. Could
some one please enlighten what could be happening and why the sound isnt
restored after I hibernate.
Thanks.

by Gene Heskett
Greetings all;
I am going to need my laptop again, which has F8 on it, and a network
connection. Fired up for first time in most of a year, pup is upgrading 50
packages right now.
What's the quickest & least typing, way to upgrade it to F10?
Thanks.

OT: Pushing back Time
by Chris
Greetings,
Every few days to a week I check the project site for the release of 11.
It cracks me up to see the days just seem to be counting in the
wrong direction.
For example, a few days ago it said 7 days. Tonight, we're at 11.
Might I suggest the tag line say something like:
It will be release when it's released.

Cannot set keyboard in Gnome, running via VNC in FC10
by Bengt Månsson
Hi
I have search for this and find things related but not exactly the same. At
least not with recent versions.
I have a fresh install of FC10 and have just made an update.
I run with runlevel 3.
When I start vncserver and log in from a remote client I get an error dialog
saying: Error activating XKB configuration.
I get the gnome desktop but I am not able to set my keyboard type to
Swedish, which is the hw I have.
Please advice
