Fedora 12 Installation problem

Hi folks, I've been trying to install Fedora 12 on a Dell Latitude C600, (Pentium III 750/600 MHz; 256 MB RAM; 250 KB Level 2 Cache; 8 MB Video Memory; ATI M3 Video Controller) Downloaded iso files from Fedora Project, Verified integrity with sha256sum.exe, burned to 5 CD's. Disc's 1 & 3 failed Linux test at installation. Burned Disk 1 twice more and still fails. Went ahead with installation. Chose to Use all of the 20 B hard disk. Would not install via graphical. Finished after Disk 1. After re-starting computer and logging into root, only get CLI operability and can't seem to get a GUI. I'm new to linux - just thought I'd put this laptop to use to familiarize myself with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe Woodruff

i used fedora 8 but later some of you told that fedora 8 is not that good and i should try f12 or f11 . so can anybody tell me which one should i install f11 or f12 ?? and it would be nice if u tell me how to install various media players and all in it coz i find pretty difficult installing them !! thanks prab

How to get non-console users access to audio / sound device?

Hi! Just wondering if you have any suggestion on giving a non-console users access to audio / sound device? Background: in my office computer (currently running Fedora 12) I like to open personal e-mails etc. in separate environment. So I created a separate user, ssh into it, make sure DISPLAY is correct there and xhost is correct from the console user, then run application from there. Serial port (/dev/ttySX) question.

Greetings all; rs-232 tech is getting old, like me. Do we have a tool that can display graphically in near real time, the status of the commonly used wires/signals in the '7 wire' protocol? I need something that works a bit like the old db25 tester with a bunch of LED's to tally the line states like that gismo Radio Shack sold 20 years ago. Those blinking leds were a very good troubleshooting tool, and I'm having flow control problems that look like a system freeze on one end or the other, but when rz times out, I still get a prompt from the shell on the other end, but nothing I type here arrives there, like hardware flow is still in effect and turned off on one end or the other. How do I put Multiple live distro's on a USB flash drive.

I have an 8GB flash drive that I would like to put multiple Fedora Live CD's on. (KDE,Gnome,LXDE,XFCE, FEL, Games and Edu,Third party spins, etc. ) Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? Can I put 32 bit and 64 bit live cd's on the same flash drive and choose between them? Thank you, Tux

Testing sound?

The sound on my Thinkpad T43 (model 1871-12G) sometimes works, and sometimes does not work. I think this has something to do with Suspend to Disk. However, I'm not really asking about this, but rather: Is there a simple way of testing if sound is working? I'm running Fedora-12/KDE, and looked at System Settings=> Look and Feel=>Notifications , but did not really understand how one is supposed to use this. Is there a simple command-line test for sound? Shouldn't there be a test somewhere in KMix since there seem to be a billion choices there?
