sound-level activated recording

Hello all Does anyone know of a tool chain or a way of scripting this: 1. start recording from a line-in port as soon as the sound level goes above a certain threshold 2.stop recording after it goes below the threshold for a certain amount of time, 3. save the whole recording in some kind of PCM format with the file name being the time and date the recording started. One possible application could be security, but the application I'm going to use it for is recording music. Just looking for some resources or maybe one of you has done this before?

Kernel 2.6.35 Receive packet steering for F13 ?

kernel 2.6.35 comes with RPS (Receive packet steering ) http://lwn.net/Articles/362339/ wondering if F13 already has this in 2.6.34? I can't find a 2.6.35 kernel for F13 on koji. I want RPS in F13 any ideas? -- Robert Arkiletian Eric Hamber Secondary, Vancouver, Canada

F13 DNS (client) not working

Hi, I have just installed F13 server and the DNS is not working. I can ping out but am not getting google. On filling in the Network Configuration DNS tab then restarting Network Configure the DNS values have disappeared and are blank. Hope you can help. Many thanks in advance, Aaron

NFS Buffering

I have a fedora 13 box on which I have a remote mounted nfs share over a fairly slow (10Mb/s) link. I'm then transferring data onto this share from a different machine using scp. The problem is that after scp reports that it's 100% complete the program will hang for ~20 mins before it will move on to another file. At this point it can't be killed. It looks like the nfs daemon is caching write data (around 2GB of it) which lets scp think its finished when actually there's loads of data sitting in a write buffer. The hanging is presumably the time it takes to flush the buffer (there is a process called nfsiod which is active during this time and df shows data is still being written). Does anyone know how to either make this buffer smaller, or get rid of it all together so the scp can accruately report on its progress? Thanks Simon.

Desktop effects not working

I have installed FC-!3 in my system.Everything is working fine except the desktop effects. If i turn them on i cannot launch any applications like gimp or open office. If i click on any of the applications the machine will either get stuck or i will be automatically logged out . I am using a intel machine with core 13 processor and with 4GB RAM. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) What could be the problem???? -- ASHISH

Is there an archive of previous RPM versions from the updates repo?

Specifically, I'm looking for xscreensaver-base-5.11-9.fc12.respin1.i686 and the corresponding xscreensaver-gl-base, xscreensaver-gl-extras, and xscreensaver-gl-extras-gss RPMs. The current 5.12-1 releases break a couple of things on my system, and "yum downgrade" only offers to go all the way back to the 5.10-2 release from the original F-12 distribution. -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address. Do NOT delete it.

RE: Workspace switcher crashes at 20

> The backtrace disagrees with you. It aborts due to an assertion that > the workspace name isn't NULL. No indication of "not enough memory" > or heavy memory usage when enabling 20 workspaces. I ran into this issue when increasing from 14 to 18 workspaces. You could switch between spaces with the mouse but as soon as you use ctl+alt+arrows metacity would crash with the assertion failure. I found a way to get around this by naming the workspaces. Currently I have 20 workspaces configured. Alan

fedora system-switch-mail alternative
