wrong "audio" card found?
by Michael Hennebry
After a recent reboot, I no longer have sound,
either with mplayer or with firefox.
mplayer "works" with -nosound .
I have a Radeon 3600 series video card.
I have AC97 sound that I think is built into the motherboard
(B865GBFL) and to which my speakers are attached.
Apparently the Radeon does audio.
lspci lists it twice, once for video and once for audio.
lspci also list AC97.
My suspicion is that mplayer and firefox are trying to use the Radeon..
How do I tell what they are trying to use?
How do I tell them to use AC97?
I hate it when things just don't work.

Fedora Core RPMs archive
by Jerome Benoit
Hello,
Is there a site somewhere having a comprehensive archive of all Fedora
release (RPMs, iso, etc.) that can be rsynced ?
archive.fedoraproject.org seems to have everything but I'm not sure it
can be rsynced ...
Cheers.

Allow telnet to only one IP using host.deny or host.allow
by Jatin K
Dear All,
I want to allow telnet in my server from local LAN from only one IP
address, to fulfill the requirement what should I do from the following
[1] add an entry in /etc/host.allow like following
telnetd : xx.xx.xx.xx
or
[2] add an entry in /etc/host.deny like following
telnet : ALL except xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
[3] or simply create a iptables rule to allow telnet from desired IP
what is the best option to go through ???

pick a mirror and goto releases->12->fedora->$arch->iso
hope that helps

Hardware play-through?
by Samuel Kidman
Hello All
My current audio set up is like this:
Turntable --> Phono Input | Amp |Tape/Ext Output ---> Front Mic Input |
Computer.
I want to complete the chain like so:
Turntable --> Phono Input | Amp |Tape/Ext Output ---> Front Mic Input |
Computer | Headphones plug ---> Headphones
Anyone know how to configure this in FC13? I opened up alsamixer and turned
up the volume on all my inputs (Mic 1, Mic 2, Line- another issue here is I
only have 2 plugs on my computer but it's seeing three inputs) in the
playback section but still can't here anything. I can see signal coming in
through my computer though, in Sound Preferences I can set my Input to
Microphone 2 and see the signal. I can also record it in audacity and play
it back and here it normally (apart from the right channel is missing but I
think that's a physical layer issue)

dhcp server setup: client doesn't accept DHCPOFFER
by Hiisi
Dear all!
I'm trying to set up dhcp-server for my home network. This home server
has 3 nicks. It's connected to the Internet via eth0 and shares its
connection to the LAN hosts on eth1 and eth2 interfaces using
IP-forwarding (masquerade). Currently clients have to enter IP
manually. I would like it to be set automatically via dhcp. I
installed dhcp and modified dhcpd.conf as follows:
$ sudo cat /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf
# dhcpd.conf
ddns-update-style interim;
ignore client-updates;
# If this DHCP server is the official DHCP server for the local
# network, the authoritative directive should be uncommented.
authoritative;
log-facility local7;
subnet 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.2.30 192.168.2.50;
default-lease-time 86400;
max-lease-time 86400;
option routers 192.168.2.20;
option broadcast-address 192.168.2.255;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
}
host ubuntu-virtual {
hardware ethernet 08:00:27:84:b7:23;
fixed-address 192.168.2.50;
}
Now I'm testing it on ubuntu virtual machine with no success. When
ubuntu tries to connect to the Internet I see this messages
in/var/log/messages on the server:
Oct 4 13:22:50 kello dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 08:00:27:84:b7:23 via eth1
Oct 4 13:22:50 kello dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.2.50 to
08:00:27:84:b7:23 via eth1
Oct 4 13:22:55 kello dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 08:00:27:84:b7:23 via eth1
Oct 4 13:22:55 kello dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 192.168.2.50 to
08:00:27:84:b7:23 via eth1
As in theory, I'm expecting it to send DHCPREQUEST in response to
server DHCPOFFER and server to hit back with DHCPACK. Why it doesn't
work? How can i debug it to find out what's wrong with it?
TIA

disable desktop background in fedora 13 (LXDE)
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I was wondering how one does it: I have been looking at the Preferences
-> Desktop but I can not find a way to have it take nothing as the
background. Previously, in F10,11,12, I recall that there was a button
somewhere which said no background. I can not find it here.
Any help?
Many thanks!

Which module caused that kernel is tainted? I suppose Fedora contains
only open SW including kernel modules, isn't then there something wrong?
