Intermittent freezing
by Nigel Bishop
I am running Fedora 13 with Linux Kernel 2.6.33-3.85.fc13.x86_64 with Gnome
2.30.0 on HP laptop ProBook 4510S
At times, it almost freezes, with very slow response to the keyboard. System
monitor shows that something is hogging the CPU. Sometimes, after a few
minutes, it recovers, other times I have to re-boot.
Any ideas?

Can't write F14 x86_64 DVD
by Paolo Galtieri
I downloaded both the i686 and x86_64 F14 iso images. Both images check
correctly. I wrote the i686 DVD without problems. However, the x86_64
version has failed all 4 times I have tried. I tried it once with
nautilus (don't remember the error) and 3 times using wodim directly.
The error generated the last time I tried is:

[F14] Black screen during installation
by Marco Guazzone
Hello Community,
I'm happily running F13 and now I've just tried to install the new
baby: Fedora 14.
After booting from DVD and selected the first option "Install a new
system or upgrade an existing system", the vmlinuz start loading, till
the hardware detection.
After this, the screen becomes black, the DVD stops reading, and all is idle.
I've tried several times, but I've got the same result.
So, I've decided to try the option "Install system with basic video card"...
... and yes this time seems to work, because after the hardware
detection phase, the Media check textual window appears.
My laptop is not so aged. It is a Dell Latitude D830 with an Intel
GMA500 video card.
Anyway, having got this error, if I decide to finally install F14, may
I have problems with X?
Thank you very much!
Best,

Currently Fedora 13
by Gene Poole
I've not done a full install since Fedora 9. At what point is a full
install suggested? Should I look forward to Fedora 14 as that point?
Thanks,

Suggestions on Linux Manuals
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
In 2002, Gerhard Mourani's Securing & Optimizing Linux: The Ultimate
Solution was the single paper resource that met many of needs and was tied
to my skill level.
Would anyone have recommendations on what the 2010-going-into-2011 update
to this weighty tome be?
Thanks!

F14 LXDE spin lxdm-greeter does not go anywhere....
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
Just installed Fedora 14 LXDE spin on my trusty IBM T61 Thinkpad laptop.
It was a clean install, however after install, I can not get beyond the
login screen.
Here is what happens:
I input my user name for the Username:
hit enter
and then my password next to Password:
Both go away, but the big Login screen does not. (Basically nothing
happens). Hitting the quit button to reboot/shutdown causes a flashback
to the first login screen (and then the above process is repeated with
amazing regularity).
Going in to console mode and logging in shows lxdm-greeter as a process
running. Nothing else is out of the ordinary.
Any suggestions?
