No. Never had anything like that happen, and I've been using Fedora as my primary OS since Core 3.
How
did you "install" Acrobat Reader? Did you use yum and the Adobe repo?
How did you download the other programs that you didn't install? Yum?
Or did you download the rpm's directly from a non-repo site?
Really,
since you just installed 12, save yourself a lot of time: Do a clean
reinstall of 12 overwriting everything. At the first boot, before
updating, disable selinux, then in the terminal of your choice: enter
'su -'
give
the root password, and do your 'yum update'. After completing, set up
the other repos that you want, and install your other apps. The
following link will help a lot:
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/
This can happen if you decide to take the bios properties and do what is called pushing to get the last bit of performance. During the boot process, memory timing fails, and the system crashes. Set the bios parameters to default and restart your system.
How do I know. I was experimenting at trying to boost system performance, and had this happen to me. I could only increase performance by about 5% safely. Overclocking, and pushing memory access is a trial and error exercise. Best to go with system defaults.

gpg-agent hosed for one user....
by Ed Greshko
This is F11, KDE.
Seems gpg-agent is hosed for one user. I think it may have to do with
the cache for the private key.
I get the following....

The dialog to type in the passphrase pops up but goes away in an instant.
If I move the .gnupg directory to another user's area I have no problem.
I get the feeling there is a corrupt file...or stuck file....from what I
can tell gpg-agent interfaces with pinentry but don't know what else to
do...
Any ideas?

Wacom CTH-460 and Fedora 12
by Filipe Carvalho
Hi,
This weekend I buy a Wacom Pen and Touch and sadly I realized will
not be something to plug and play with.
First I try to install the fedora packages without luck and find
some bug reports.
After that I've tried to compile from sources, but have some troubles.
Also read something about to put something in xorg.ini, but in
Fedora 12 it doesn't exist.
In some sites I read we sould use xf86-input-wacom and other point
to linuxwacom.
But today, in a mail from Chris Bagwell in linuxwacom-discuss, I
find a way to not have a brick in my home :)
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=db599ead100326100...
For Bamboo P&T users, as of today the best combination to use is
linuxwacom-0.8.5-10 kernel module and xf86-input-wacom-0.10.5 X input
module.
So, this is my steps:
First I've download de latest linuxwacom from:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linuxwacom/linuxwacom-0.8.5-12.tar.bz2
And followed the instructions to build the kernel modules from:
http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto/buildwacom6
Because in the past I tried to compile all stuff and get errors, this time, only build wacom and disable the other things:
./configure --disable-libwacomcfg \
--disable-libwacomxi \
--disable-wacdump \
--disable-xidump \
--disable-xsetwacom \
--disable-wacomxrrd \
--disable-wacomdrv \
--enable-wacom

BUILD ENVIRONMENT:

----------------------------------------
After configure, 'make' run without problems.
Next step, test the kernel modules following the instructions in this chapter (just follow next in the webpage):
3.4 - Testing If wacom.(k)o Will Load
So, after install the just compiled modules 'insmod ./wacom.ko', for the first time I see some good news in /var/log/messages
Mar 30 12:28:07 Citronela kernel: input: Wacom BambooFun 2FG 4x5 Pen as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.1/usb3/3-2/3-2:1.0/input/input6

Mar 30 12:28:07 Citronela kernel: usbcore: registered new interface driver wacom
Mar 30 12:28:07 Citronela kernel: wacom: v1.52:USB Wacom tablet driver
To install permanently the module, just follow the instructions from:
3.5 - Installing wacom.(k)o
But in a brief
cd /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE/kernel/drivers/input/tablet/
mv wacom.ko /tmp/linuxwacom-0.8.5-12/src/2.6.30/wacom_old.ko
cp /tmp/linuxwacom-0.8.5-12/src/2.6.30/wacom.ko .
Don't miss the note :)
NOTE: Don't leave the backup copy in the same directory as the original.
After this, re-test with 'depmod -e' and run without problems.
Checking if kernel module is working
cat /sys/bus/usb/drivers/devices
T: Bus=03 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1

E: Ad=82(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 64 Ivl=4ms
And for the kernel module we are done... nothing more to do.
Now follow for xf86-input-wacom-0.10.5, following the instructions in:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/linuxwacom/index.php?title=Xf86-inp...
git clone git://linuxwacom.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/linuxwacom/xf86-input-wacom
cd xf86-input-wacom
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
After run autogen.sh, follow the hint to fedora. Go to Koji, choose the latest package for my distribution, in my case xorg-x11-drv-wacom-0.10.5-1.fc12 <http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=162622>, see the build log to my architecture (i686), open build.log file, and search the line '+ ./configure' bla bla bla, and copy and past to command line.
./configure --build=i386-redhat-linux-gnu --host=i386-redhat-linux-gnu --target=i686-redhat-linux-gnu --program-prefix= --prefix=/usr --exec-prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin --sysconfdir=/etc --datadir=/usr/share --includedir=/usr/include --libdir=/usr/lib --libexecdir=/usr/libexec --localstatedir=/var --sharedstatedir=/var/lib --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --disable-static
After this, make and make install do the rest without problems.
The final step
/etc/init.d/haldaemon restart
And check if hal is seeing the device with 'lshal'
At the end, a reboot, and voilá in /var/log/Xorg.0.log I've have

Without need to create or add something to xorg.ini
Now it's working, not at 100%, but at least gimp see the device and the pressure is working.
I hope this help someone.

ssh problem with kernel 2.6.32.10-90
by John
Hi all,
This morning I updated my Fedora 12 64bit laptop to kernel 2.6.32.10-90.
Immediately after I couldn't forward X apps over ssh anymore. Usually, I
run X apps on my 3 laptops from my F12 64bit server. The server has been
updated to kernel 2.6.32.10-90 at the same time. The 2 other laptops are
running fine since they are running Fedora 13 alpha.
It is not a major problem since I went back on 2.6.32.9-70 on the F12
laptop and everything is OK. I just thought that posting this might be
useful for someone who has a similar problem.
If you have any idea on the cause of the problem, feel free to comment.

Compiz and Desktop Wall
by Fred Williams
After a fresh install of F12, and enabling the 3D graphics correctly, I
activated Compiz and the desktop wall - however, unlike usual, using the
scrollwheel on the desktop doesn't scroll through the different
workspaces.
There's probably something I've overlooked in the Compiz control panel,
or more likely someplace else, but wherever it is, it's hiding and
laughing at me.
How to get this one thing back?
Thanks.
