Fedora as Xen/CentOS guest?
by Greg Woods
Is there a trick to getting Fedora to install as a Xen guest? I've got a
CentOS 5.5 box and I have tried to create a Fedora VM (starting with
F11, then F12, then F13) and I run into the same problem every time: it
starts booting from the install DVD (or ISO image, same thing), gets
partway through the boot, and hangs. It hangs right after printing
messages about cgroups.
Yes, I know Xen is older technology (we have a lot invested in our
existing installation), CentOS is not Fedora, this question maybe should
be asked on a CentOS or Xen list, etc. I'm just wondering if anyone here
has successfully done this.

Moving a virtual machine
by Matthew Saltzman
I set up a virtual machine in virt-manager on one machine, and now I'd
like to port it to another machine. I copied /var/lib/libvirt to the
other machine, but the VM doesn't show up in the list of VMs in
virt-manager.
I must be missing something, but I'm not sure what. Does anyone know?
Is there something that needs to be set?
The copy of /var/lib/libvirt is on a removable USB drive, and I
symlinked the directory on the target machine to the directory on the
disk. Do I need to do something more?
TIA.

radeon to nvidia to radeon produces pain
by Michael Hennebry
I'm on my third video card.
The first was a radeon.
After I zapped that one, I had it replaced with
an nvidia card because it had AGP and I could find it.
Having cooked or otherwise damaged that one,
I replaced it with a VisionTek Radeon HD 3650.
It was the AGP card I could find.
Knoppix 5.1.0 runs just fine.
I'm using it now.
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ uname -a
Linux Knoppix 2.6.19 #7 SMP PREEMPT Sun Dec 17 22:01:07 CET 2006 i686
GNU/Linux
knoppix@Knoppix:~$
Fedora 11, not so great.
It never gets to X.
The last messages to the console involve the ethernet connection.
Disconnecting and reconnecting results in more messages.
Alternate consoles show the login prompt.
After logging in as root, I have to run dhclient explicitly
to acccess the internet.
At the suggestion of a friend, I did
yum grouperase 'X Window System'
yum groupinstall 'X Window System'
It didn't help.
Xorg.conf now says I have vesa where I used to say I had nvidia.
What do I need to do to make Fedora work?

Evolution new mail notification gone in F13?
by Matthew Saltzman
I preupgraded from F12 to F13, and now Evolution doesn't pop up the
notification icon for new mail in the notification area. It does pop up
the appointment notification.
Any suggestion for where to look to fix welcome.
Thanks.

Ugly little hand
by Jonathan Ryshpan
The cursor that displays over desktop icons and links in Firefox, among
other places -- a little black hand pointing up -- is really ugly. (At
least I think so.) How can it be changed?
Appearance Preferences->Theme->Customize Theme
allows changing the default cursor but not others.
Same question for the whirling circle that displays when the system is
busy.

can't set Okular as helper pdf app in Firefox
by Claude Jones
This is Fedora 13 with the KDE desktop and all the latest updates:
When I click on a pdf link in Firefox, I get a message saying the helper
application doesn't exist and to change that in preferences. In Firefox
preferences in the Applications tab, the helper app is set to Okular. If I
download a pdf, as opposed to clicking on the link, and then right-click and
select open with Okular, it works fine.
In KDE settings, the file association for pdf's is also set to Okular
Is there another place this has to be set??

Printer selector in F13
by Matthew Saltzman
Up through F12, under Preferences, there was a selector for the default
printer. After a preupgrade to F13, that no longer seems to be
available. Is it gone? Did it move to another package?
Thanks.

Problems with fetchmail
by Mats
Hello,
I will try to keep this both informative and short. I have installed
mutt and fetchmail under fedora 13. I have also changed from sendmail to
postfix and it works perfect sending mail with mutt. When I use
fetchmail -a to get my mail I can see that it fetch the mails but they
don't show up in mutt. The folder in mutt is set
to /var/spool/mail/"user" but it seems to be empty. I have
no .procmailrc file (not in /etc and not in /home/"user").
My .fetchmailrc looks something like this:
poll my.isp proto POP3
user me_at_isp there with password "secret" is "my_login_name" here
And it's chmod 600 (obviously because it starts as normal).
As I said, I wonder in what folder he puts the mail?
