How to debug resume (suspend) problems?

Hi, I'm using F13 x86_64 on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop and with the last kernels in F13, I have the problem that my laptop does not properly resume from sleep. Most of the time, I just see the "blue screen" with the fedora logo but nothing happens afterwards... This happens not always but most of the time (~ 80%). No lines in the system, the system is just "dead". Kernel is not tainted... How can I debug that? I think before opening a bz report, I first need to gather some data but how? fs

Slow network with F13

I've got a couple of boxes connected with wire and a gigabit ethernet switch. With F11 on the sending and receiving sides, I see a transfer speed of ~ 40 MB/s transfering large files. With F13 on the sending box (same box, just new software), I get a transfer speed of ~ 23 MB/s with the same files. The disk read speed on the F13 box looks to be ~ 75 MB/s, so it doesn't seem to be the bottleneck. I'm not sure where to start looking. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, John

yum repository synchronization time?

Hi, sometimes I'm looking for new package versions within the yum repositories because they should fix security issues. Therefore I go to http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packages and search for e.g. 'kernel' then I see there is already a new kernel build 2.6.34.4: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=190874 But it is not yet available via yum: repoquery -i kernel Name : kernel Version : 2.6.33.8 Release : 149.fc13 Architecture: x86_64 Size : 108243345 Packager : Fedora Project Group : System Environment/Kernel URL : http://www.kernel.org/ Repository : updates-testing Summary : The Linux kernel Shouldn't this package (kernel-2.6.34.4-42.fc13.x86_64.rpm) be available already? It has the tag 'dist-f13-updates-candidate', is this equivalent to the updates-testing repository? (I also have the updates-testing repo enabled.) Sometimes I download the rpm files manually but on the long run that isn't very practical either (dependencies..). kind regards, Christoph

does Fedora need Google search logic?

Package search has been bugging me for a long time now, I as an advanced user know exactly what I want and any package is just "yum install name" away, yes I still use yum and will continue to do so because I prefer yum over pkcon :) <rant> also pkcon is harder spell the phone line or skype (when dealing with new users), yum is easier to type even you are regular cli user, and yum is easier command to remember but never mind, back to topic at hand. </rant> For new users it is too hard to install package by searching because for any general search phrase and even for searches that are unique package names users get too many search results, and too often the top result is not what they are looking for. Too much information is not a good thing. This has been bugging me for months but haven't written anything about this because didn't see a solution until now. After looking at Suse Studio Screencast [1] it become obvious really fast whan needs to be done because they have done it in really elegant way. When doing a search in SUSE studio package search results are sorted by installation frequency. So packages which are most often installed are on top. SUSE guys have great example by searching for apache package. I repeated apache search on Fedora with yum, pkcon and with PackageKit GNOME GUI. The results are attached in this RFE, but you can see how search isn't usable if user doesn't know exactly that needs to be installed. Regular users won't go installing apache, this is just one example, but I had lots of similar situations in real life when I told some fedora users to just type name of package and to install it, but users got too many search results and got confused. I expect that only few packages will show and that main package will be first. We need some king of google logic that would sort package search results. Am I making any sense? Has something like this already in the works? Am I just wasting your time? increase brighness of laptop after F13 install

Hi, I installed F13 on Thinkpad T61 laptop yesterday. But everything is very dim and gloomy. How do I increase the brightness? The Fn + brightness blue buttons are doing nothing: this used to work on F12. Best wishes, Ranjan

Hitachi Tablet Digitizer

Hi; I just got an old digitizer tablet. Hitachi HDG-405J-SR. It is serial DB9 and paperback book sized. It seems to be either RF or Ultrasound, as the stylus is powered and wireless. Fedora 12 installation issue

Hi, I tried installing FC-12 on my laptop which is having i5-430M processor. The installation got hung initially then I again restarted it with the basic graphics driver and the installation happened successfully. Now I am having following problems. Please help me to resolve it: 1. How to enable Intel HD Graphics? 2. The mousepad is multitouch. Which package i need to install to get it working. 3. The wireless LAN is of broadcom. 2.6.33.8-149.fc13.i686.PAE sleeps NOT

The newly-released kernel, 2.6.33.8-149.fc13.i686.PAE, wakes up a few seconds after being asked to sleep. 2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686.PAE does not have this problem. Has anyone experienced this? And perhaps discovered a solution? (Bugzilla report against fc12 kernel for the same problem was ignored)

Removing Windows from Dual Boot

I am sure this has been asked a number of times, and I am not finding anything relevant using a google search, so I thought I would post my query here. I have a user that owns a Dell Inspiron laptop, that has a 60G drive split in two, with Windows XP on the first partition, and Fedora Core 7 on the second. Now, he decides he would like me to remove Windows XP and make it a 100% linux laptop. Great, I think to myself, a convert!
