Broadcom 4312

Hi Noticed that wireless broadcom 4312 stopped working with latest kernel updates. It works with kernel 26.33.5-124.fc13.i686.PAE, but not anymore with 26.33.6-147 series. Anyone seen this also? It's in HP-pavillion dv-9000 laptop. I didn't found anything in logs. Modbrobe.d there is b43 blacklisted, but then b34-wl-openfwwf options in openfwwf.conf. What's difference between these kernels? building a custom live CD/DVD image

Any tips for building a custom Live Image? I need some AS/400 terminals and would prefer to use linux, if I can. IF I can build my own image, I wouldn't need a hard drive to install to. Thanks!

regressions between kernel 2.6.32 and 2.6.33

I've recently noticed problems with the kde power management with f13 and as part of debugging this i've come to the conclusion there are serious (for me) regressions between kernel 2.6.32 and kernel 2.6.33. I have a fully up to date f13 laptop. If I boot the original f13 kernel (kernel-2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64) I see the following problems: nouveau driver hangs randomly - very often if i have 3d effects enabled. it needs a soft or hard power off to fix. if i use rpmfusion nvidia drivers, normal use is fine, but the system hangs on exit and needs a soft or hard power off to fix. After a hard power off the system hangs at "starting udev" on the next boot, and needs ctrl-alt-del to fix. with either driver the screen does not lock when the lid is closed with either driver kde power management does not work However if I install a recent F12 kernel (kernel-2.6.32.16-141.fc12.x86_64) then I see nvidia drivers work as expecte and exit and restart normally screen is locked when the lid is closed power management works as expected. (nouveau is not present in this kernel, I believe) Obviously running such an old kernel is not a long term solution. I've already raised a bug about the nouveau hangs, and I intend to file one regarding these regressions, but before I do so I'd like to ask if anyone else has seen them or thinks that there may be a solution I can implement myself. And in case you're wondering - I will be very happy to move permanently to the nouveau drivers just as soon as they're stable enough. I think that day is probably not soon though. Regards, Chris

If I start it by hand everything works as expected. So now I need to find out why it's either not being started or is failing silently. Menu Editor

I've added an entry with Menu Editor (right click on f-button in panel) to enable ssh -Y <remote host>. I've set "Run in terminal" on the Advanced tab. This works, except that I get a white-on-black screen with nothing at the top of the screen to change this. On another laptop, with exactly the Menu Editor setting I get a nice page with the usual File-Edit-View tabs at the top. I'm wondering what actually sets the look of the screen? Is it a default konsole setting, or is it something to do with ssh? Or perhaps a shell setting? I see that there is Menu Editor setting with "Run in terminal" to set Terminal options, but nothing I have tried there has has any effect. I should say that I am running Fedora-13/KDE on this laptop. Any and all advice gratefully received.

Leaving firefox running remotely through a ssh connection

Dear All, I am remotely running firefox through a ssh connection with the following command: firefox -no-remote & and everything works fine. However, I would like to leave firefox running remotely after quitting the ssh connection. Is that possible? Thanks in advance, Paul

camera won't automount

I'm having problem with one device, a Nikon D90 camera, that won't automount. At some point in the past, I had set something that would cause it to be detected, but the only option offered was to download pictures with Digikam. (At some time in the past, the device notifier would offer options including opening the device in Dolphin which is what I'd prefer.) For some reason, this function didn't work properly because Digikam would open and stall on the process of detecting my images, and never would open. I have a very large image archive and this process could take a couple of minutes in the past, but it would eventually open. This camera will mount under Windows; however, in Windows, the icon never appears that allows you to eject it gracefully once you're ready to dismount it. When I attach the camera to the Windows box, it automatically opens an explorer window and shows me the folder structure, but, the eject button never appears. What I've done: I've gone into the device notifier widget settings and tried finding there, a way to disable the mount with Digikam option, but could find nothing there that affected the behavior I've removed the device notifier widget and re-installed it - no difference I found the auto-mount files "device-automounter-kcmrc" and "kded-device-automounterrc" and renamed them and restarted KDE - no difference I removed Digikam (I really don't want to use this app anyway, as I find it cumbersome) - now, the device notifier doesn't ever show the camera I re-formatted the memory card in the camera Lots of google searches on this issue, but haven't found anything else that helped Tried my other camera, a Fuji 9000, and several pen drives - these all automount successfully and offer various options for how to mount the devices with various applications The strange behavior under Windows (it automatically opens a folder with the camera memory card's root folder displayed, BUT, never produces the eject icon) makes me suspect this is some issue with the camera, but, what could it be? -- Claude Jones Brunswick, MD, USA

Red Hat employees listed in manpage have blocked addresses? Unreal.

Greetings list; 2 redhat employees are list as the authors of logrotate in the manpage, so I just sent them a question because it isn't working as expected. Both emails bounced in the time it takes my fetchmail script to go suck the next cycle. Effectively instantly and permanently. So how does one go about asking for logrotate help for a non-redhat distribution? I am not running fedora atm. Problem with an external usb HD - slow usb

Hi list, I use fedora 12 on a dell inspiron 1545 laptop. (2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64). i have a external usb hd and i can't make it connect like a usb 2.0 device. this device is ntfs format I check if the device is using ehci (dmesg after i plug the device) [root@localhost ~]# dmesg | grep USB usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 I check if this device is connected on a usb 2.0 [root@localhost ~]# lsusb Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 015: ID 0471:2021 Philips Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub I mount the device with this options: /dev/sdc1 on /media/hd_backup type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096) but when i use cp, mv or rsync, the max speed i get is max 6MB/s (a lot 800kB/s). If i use this device on Windows (tested with Vista and Seven), i get much high transfer rate. I read about sync and async options, but if i put sync or async on fstab, it does not alter the transfer rate. Is this the normal upload transfer rate? I am doing something wrong?
