Computer transplant -

This computer has developed problems and I have elected to replace it with another used computer which FedEx should deliver in a few days. I know I can transfer file from one to the other but is there any hope I could simply install these hard drives and boot from them. That would save me the effort of a lot of configuration. I suspect not but wanted to ask before doing anything else. I hesitate to shut this computer off, It comes on sounding like a jet engine in my quiet room, fans running full bore and does not POST. I changed the power supply, it ran ok for a week or more, I figured I had it fixed until the problem returned with a vengeance. I can get it to run by pulling off a fan plug and reinserting it although that fan does not appear to be the problem. Too much, simpler to buy another used box. Thanks. Bob . --

Desktop Background Weirdness

All: I have something strange and quite annoying happening with my F14 x86_64 desktop system. I changed my desktop background in Gnome to something I like - I use Digital Blasphemy (http://digitalblasphemy.com) for most of my backgrounds, and I usually change it almost every time he releases something new. Of late, whenever I change my background, if I logoff and log back on again, the background I selected first displays momentarily, but then it changes by itself to something I used to use a while ago. I have: 1) Removed the undesired background from the list of available ones. After logging off and on, not only does it return to my screen - it's back in the list!!! 2) Deleted the original file of the offending background 3) Applied all of the patches 4) Turned off Desktop Effects / Turned on Desktop Effects 5) Removed (as root) everything in /tmp and rebooted All of these have had NO EFFECT. There are other user accounts on this system (for my wife and kids) and they don't have this problem, so I'm assuming something is wrong with my profile somehow. My next thing to do will be to backup all of my data in my home directory, and then delete and re-create my account. I was hoping not to have to do that, but instead understand what could be wrong first. Anyone else seen something like this? My system seems to prefer Ryan Bliss' "Axonal" over everything else, and his newest, called "The Fisherman" is actually very cool. I'd prefer to have it stick around until I say to use something new. Ideas welcome. Problem on upgrading Fedora14 from 13.

After I upgraded my Fedora 14 from 13 with a local ISO image on my local drive, I noticed that only some info such as one in "System->About this computer" was turned to indicate something about Fedora14 while "uname -r" didn't show info about fedora 14 instead of the previous one and no new source directories in /usr/src/ were created. I am wondering whether my fedora13 was upgraded to 14? Cricket

Hi Guys, Currently I see my project well and running - thanks to Pitivi (and their debuggers, devs) - but I would like to have some help from our Fedora community. I have an small audioclip what has been released by an BR musician namely Carlos Amoyan (huge thanks), and received permission from NASA itself (Goddard Space Center) to use their videos to our AD marketing clip. I have my project stalled at in the middle of planning, because of Pitivi wasn't so stable to make the cuts, and the rendering. Right now I would like to finish our first moveclip dedicated for Fedora, and let it see to be born. What I need to be done? Well, I need some resources that I could cut into this - Like inserts with about our beloved OS (in few minutes), and community presentation talks, different recorded desktops, 3D cube, menu parts. and our projects (or their logos) and that would like to be used as clipart....to present the diversity of Fedora. The format must be THEORA/OGG 720x576 with 25 fps / 2 channel 44,1k audio. So, if you're interested please get contacted me, and I put together to FOSDEM if everything goes well. Broadcom 4321 wireless suddenly stopped working

*This is a fairly new Fedora 14 install and I did have the wireless working for quite awhile, so all the fwcutter and other pre-configuration stuff was done. *This install was for a friend and he says it worked fine for awhile and then stopped when he took his computer to the office and back home. *I ran yum update and installed lots of updates yesterday, and after that, it started working and stayed working through multiple reboots. *When my friend arrived to pick it up, we did one final reboot and it came up dead again, with no evidence of the adapter in the network manager applet *We're using the akmod-wl driver from rpmfusion - I've removed and reinstalled it *If I remove the kmod-wl component, I can see akmod-wl detecting the wireless card and building a new module during bootup *I've searched all the logs using "bcm" as criteria, and see nothing - nothing indicating it's loading drivers, nothing indicating it's not *Network manager, when the wireless was working, showed two NICs, calling them "eth0" and "eth1" - now, it's only showing the wired "eth0" NIC *In /lib/firmware/b43-open directory I have b0g0bsinitvals5.fw b0g0initvals5.fw ucode5.fw Can anyone suggest where I might look for problems next? -- Claude Jones Brunswick, MD, USA

I've been trying various things, mostly Fedora variants, for various reasons lately, and haven't kept good track. One machine has been running for days, maybe a week or more, on some live medium, calling me "liveuser." I like it, whatever it is; but I don't want to interrupt it (by shutting down and ejecting the disk, for instance) till I've tried a few more things. (Most of what I've done so far is more setting up than using.) "uname -a" says only that it's F14. I *think* it's Fusion. Yum not updating packages to latest version

Hello, I have noticed that there are packages in fedora-updates which are not being updated on my machine when I run yum update. I have the updates repo enabled and I disabled yum-priority and yum-protectbase. I have don a yum clean all and when I run yum update it downloads the updates/primary_db. As an example I have bacula-5.0.2 installed on my machine. I see in http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/updates/13/x86_64/ that the bacula version is bacula-5.0.3-2 with a date of 10-Dec-2010. Am I missing something or am I not getting all of the updates I should be? Maybe the mirror being used is not updating properly. Is there a way to set a specific mirror or specify http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/updates/13/x86_64/ on a yum update? Thanks, Patrick
