using document camera with linux
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I want to use a ELMO document camera with my linux laptop (Fedora 16).
Is there any way to do so? I can get the exact model number of the ELMO
tomorrow if that would be helpful but I wanted to see if this is at all
possible.
Many thanks for any pointers!
Best wishes,
Ranjan

Upgrade F14 to F16 system logon/logout and event sounds but no other sounds
by The Walters
Since upgrade from 14 to 16 (using DVD) I can hear the logon sound and
system events but nothing else with a HDA NVidia ALC662 rev1 card (MB -
ASRock K10N78M-PRO) thru the analog output. And when I try to play
anything that accesses the default sound card I get the message "The
audio playback device HDA NVidia (ALC662 rev1 analog) does not work
falling back to..". I have tried a Knoppix live CD and everything works
fine (getting ready to try a Fedora live disc).
Tried some suggestions noted on the fedoraforum but none of them work.
Searched the list and didn't see any info on this. Any help would be
appreciated.

F15: how to set clamd service?
by sean darcy
I can't find a daemon script for clamav. I can start clamd directly,
that seems to work.
Is there a chkconfig or systemd script? Or do you need to stick
something in rc.local?
rpm -qa | grep clam | sort

f16 netinst from fedora 16 beta disc?
by Ian Malone
Hi,
Does anyone know if using a Fedora 16 beta netinstall disc will get me
to Fedora 16 release version directly? I've got one from previously
upgrading a system to F16 beta and want to know if I can save burning
a new disc to upgrade another machine.
Thanks

Putting Gnome on a diet
by John Wendel
Gnome3 starts a lot of daemon processes that I'd like to get rid of.
Currently, I just chmod 644 the executables in /usr/libexec. Could
someone please tell me the "correct" way to configure Gnome so it
doesn't run daemons that I don't want/need.
Thanks,
John

Adventures with Gnome 3.2 fallback
by Aaron Konstam
My luck was that Gnome3.2 could not fully work on my system so I was
going to be put in fallback mode (I think that is what it is called) By
the way can anyone point me to what lack of resources causes that to
happen?
At first I was discouraged until I realized what I had was what many
people asked for, a Gnome3 with the familiar features of Gnome2. I have
only an Applications menu and a Places menu at the top. Clicking on
Applications gives you the familiar hierarchical list of applications.
"Magic Workspaces" are not present. The Workspaces sit where they used
to be in right corner of the bottom panel. I can fill the upper panel
with my favorite application icons that will cause them to run (like
Firefox, evolution, etc).
gnome-tweak and fedorautils can allow me to configure the Gnome destom
in various ways. fedorautils has an option to speed up boot but you are
warned services you want may disappear.
I find the whole thing familiar and friendly and it answers the wishes
of those who miss the Gnome2 feel.

question regarding f16 under various DEs
by Paul Allen Newell
Fedora-list:
Since fc5, I have always downloaded an iso of the full image of Fedora
w/ Gnome. Given the emails on f15 and now f16, I am interested in
looking at alternatives to Gnome. After much clicking through the Fedora
site, it appears to me that only f16 w/ Gnome has a direct download DVD,
all the others are spins which only offer Live or BitTorrent versions
(this may be incorrect as I have no idea whether BitTorrent provides a
full image DVD or just a Live).
The reason I ask is that I have never had any luck with Live images and
prefer to install a new release of Fedora as a fresh install and not an
update ... and really like having media that has the release on it and
not a media that I still need to download more stuff to get the release.
Hopefully someone will politely tell me this is a dumb question and I
just missed something obvious; otherwise, I will assume that I have to
do kde, xfce, lxde, etc via Live.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

wlan0 Woes
by mike
Anyone know of a USB adapter for either 802.11 G or N supported under
fc14 X86_64.
That would seem to be the only way to fix my wife's ongoing problems.
Thanks
