How do I point a mail client at Microsoft outlook?

For work, I have had to use Microsoft outlook for e-mail. I'd like to be able to get at it through either KMail or evolution on my home F13 machine. I've tried to set up both without success. That I've never used a mail client before probably doesn't help. With KMail I'm stuck when I get to Server Innformation Incoming server: Outgoing server: Use local delivery With evolution, I'm stuck when I get to the "Receiving Email" page. For server, I'm completely stuck. Which username? My name on my box or the username part of my e-mail address? -- Michael hennebry(a)web.cs.ndsu.NoDak.edu "Pessimist: The glass is half empty. Remote Desktop in F15 & Gnome 3

I want to turn on desktop sharing, but the menu options listed in the documentation no longer exist. This is the document I'm looking at: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User_Guide_-_Sharing_Your_Desktop Alternately, if there's a way to tweak /etc/sysconfig/vncservers to use x0vncserver instead of Xvnc, that would probably accomplish what I want. According to the man pages, the two programs take pretty much identical arguments, but the vncserver wrapper script used by init doesn't have any obvious options for switching backends.

Dear users members, I would like to use a wireless adaptor DWL G122 witha desktop machine (Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00 Ghz with memory 1001 MiB. Kernel 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686. GNOME 2.32.0 I have tried Ralink r-2571w/rt2671 A B G network (rt73usb firmware adaptors with no results. Any help is welcome. It worked well. I've been using the list archives for almost all my troubleshooting. I am very interested in seeing that discussion, but I have not been able to find it yet. Still looking. Obsolete RPMs

I've upgraded a couple of systems from F14 to F15 using preupgrade. Everything seems to have gone fine. I'm slowly getting used to GNOME 3 and I'm sure that it will make sense to me one day. But it strikes me that there will now be a number of obsolete RPMs hanging around on my system. These will be the RPMs relating to features used in GNOME 2 but not in GNOME 3. I'm thinking of things like compiz and all of the applets. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just remove all of these RPMs? Are there any more that I can remove safely? Paradigm shift going from Gnome2 to Gnome3

There is a paradigm shift going from Gnome2 to Gnome3 which I have not seen discussed on this list. Gnome2 is totally mouse oriented. Everything you want to do you do by moving the mouse and clicking. Obviously I am rerring to Gnome2 itself not applications. However, in Gnome3 a large fraction of actions have been moved to the keyboard. This is the same difference as that of creating documents in Word and Latex. And this change in paradigm used to be a hot topic. Network printer detection from wifi client to print-server->router

Hi, this is my first post on the list; i have a simple question. I have a usb printer attached to a router which works also as print server (ip: 192.168.0.50, call this 'print server router'); this print server router is wire linked with another router (using RIP version 1, for both in and out), which is the gateway to internet, a router, a dhcp server, and also a wifi access point (192.168.0.1, call this 'main router'). I've got also: a) PC 1, eth linked to the main router; b) PC2, wifi linked to the main router. So: when i searched the network printer (using system-config-printer) in the PC1, it worked very well and quickly found my samsung printer; when i searched the network printer in the PC2, it couldn't find anything: but after several trials i found that putting 192.168.0.50 (which is the ip of the print server router) in the textarea host field in the system-config-printer->find network printer GUI, the printer was immediately found and worked very well. The question is: why do I have to put the ip address in the host field on the gui when configuring the network printer from PC2 (wifi), when PC1 (ethernet) doesn't need it? Maybe there is some conf of Avahi that could be changed? Thanks, Daniele Guerrieri

Sound Juicer offers no profiles

I'm new to music management in Fedora. I'm trying to rip a CD to MP3 format using Sound Juicer in F15. When I open SJ, it pops up a dialog that says: The currently selected audio profile is not available on your installation. and offers me a chance to Quit or Change Profile. If I try to change profile, the CD is opened and the preferences window opens. The CD Drive selector is blank, but choosing it lists the only CD drive in the machine. After selecting that, the selector remains blank, which seems odd. But the real problem is, the Output Format selector lists no options at all. I expected some options available by default, as described in the help for SJ. Any idea what I've done wrong? TIA. -- Matthew Saltzman Clemson University Mathematical Sciences mjs AT clemson DOT edu

gnu linux update question

It is common knowledge that one does not need to reboot for updates to take effect in GNU Linux. However, in actual practice, this is not so. I could cite many examples, but this should suffice: On Sunday evening, I installed a new updates-testing version of mesa and then I suspended the machine for the night. The following Monday morning (yesterday), I resumed the machine and suspended it again around noon. I again resumed the machine at about suppertime and _powered_ _it_ _down_ about 2 hours later. An hour or two after that, I powered it back up and the mesa testing update turned out to be bad and I was not able to log in. I did not know which program was at fault, because the bad program had been installed over 24 hours prior, but was only showing itself to be bad after a power off. Could someone explain how reboots are not needed in Linux for updates to _take_, given the evidence to the contrary.

Cannot recompile grub - checking whether the C compiler works... no

As the subject says I cannot recompile grub. Everytime I get "checking whether the C compiler works... no". I explicitely installed all packages from http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/grub/0.97/74.fc15/data/logs/x86_… and have attached those in the packages.log file. The only thing that's missing is the glibc32 package but it conflicts with glibc-2.14-2.i686. As you can see from the attached build.log the error arises in the middle of the compilation. What am I missing?
