Can't dual-boot Fedora 14 on new MacBook Pro?

Boot camp interfaces with the Mac's BIOS counterpart (sorry don't remember what it's called,) but because of the differences between MBR and GPT partitioning, only four partitions are allowed in a MBR/GPT hybrid format. Fedora was being "clever" and made the Fedora partition bootable; what you need to do is turn the boot flag off and then let the bootloader work it's magic. >I read somewhere that a boot loader called rEFIt would help, so I >tried that. You did actually manage to install it, it's just getting conflicting signals, since the Fedora partition is set to be bootable. This should work whether you keep rEFIt on there or not. First insert the live CD again, make sure that you've synced the partitions, then run the program 'parted' from the command line as root, like so: parted toggle 3 boot quit shutdown then start Fedora exactly as you described. Because: I was able to use rEFIt with Fedora 13 quite easily, but Fedora 15 created an EFI partition of it's own and I couldn't log in via rEFIt (though it logged in via the Mac's EFI -- with the 'option' key -- perfectly.) time and adhoc issue in fedora 15

Hi all, I have many problem in fedora 15. 1) I have date and time issue in fedora 15. I searched it in google and I found some solutions but they did not work for me. I have installed windows 7 also in my system. After correcting the time, whenever I reboot the system it shows incorrect time. Please any one help me to get rid of this problem. 2) Another problem I found in creating ad hoc network in fedora 15. I created ad hoc network but when I tried to connect it. Paradigm shift going from Gnome2 to Gnome3

There is a paradigm shift going from Gnome2 to Gnome3 which I have not seen discussed on this list. Gnome2 is totally mouse oriented. Everything you want to do you do by moving the mouse and clicking. Obviously I am rerring to Gnome2 itself not applications. However, in Gnome3 a large fraction of actions have been moved to the keyboard. This is the same difference as that of creating documents in Word and Latex. And this change in paradigm used to be a hot topic. SATA DVD mounting issues

I have been poking around the mailing list as well as the internet trying to see if this has been reported by others, and I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. So I thought I would drop a note here to see if someone has any suggestions. I had to build a Fedora 15 desktop on a 64bit machine for a user that we support (our first F15 box in userland) and I did not add the local user to the admin group, as we have some compliance issues doing that. That said, most everything works, he is enjoying the new Gnome 3 interface and all the wonderful new apps that he now has. But we have two lingering issues, one of which I believe is an upstream app issue and not something that can be addressed by the Fedora community: integration of rabbitvcs with nautilus seems hopelessly broken at this stage. The context menus seem to be missing even though the CLI is there, and rpm/yum both see the package installed. The main issue at the moment is user mounting his SATA DVD drive ... he puts in a media disk and there is nothing mounted, and nothing is showing in dmesg to indicate that the system has even noticed the drive being opened and a disk inserted. However, in the boot process the system definitely sees the DVD hardware [ 2.951107] ata2.00: ATAPI: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50, TN03, max UDMA/100 Has anyone else seen or have this issue as well? Any fixes? KDE screen edge actions not working

Hi All; I found today that my screen edge settings for things like show all desktops, desktop grid, etc no longer work. I dont use it very often so I cannot say when it stopped working. The "maximize window by dragging to the top of the screen" does still work if I enable it (however I dislike this feature so I have it disabled), but I would like the corners to show me the desktop grid & such.... Anyone know how to fix this? how to identify sound card

Hi, I am running Fedora 13. I was given a computer and do not know what sound card is installed. What is the best way to go about finding out what it is? /etc/udev/rules.d/90-alsa-tools-firmware.rules shows these 3 entries: # TASCAM US-428 usb sound card. # TASCAM US-224 usb sound card. # TASCAM US-122 usb sound card. This show something different: cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xfe024000 irq 22 There is a sticker on the side of the box advertising "NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE" graphics card but will it do sound too? This has no mention of sound capabilities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_6_Series#GeForce_6150SE So are either of these methods of identification reliable? Thanks

Is there a guide to setting up printer configuration via cmdline? Or, let's say I have one machine on my lan with printers already configured. Is there an easy way to transfer that configuration, or a subset of it, to other machines on the lan?

fedora 15 login problem

Hi there, yesterday I installed a fedora 15 on my oldish 32 bit box and for the first boot everything went fine, the fancy mac-like user interface was indeed flashy. But in the morning I tried to log in, entered the password, then a medium blue rectangle appeared and nothing happened. What can be the problem - and what is the cure for this? - Gergely
