tftp from home dir running under xinetd

I can manually run a tftp server that allows access to files in a directory under ~ with no problem. But when I try to run the server under xinetd using the /etc/xinetd.d/tftp configuration file a "permission denied" error shows up in /var/log/message with no indication it is selinux related. But if I make selinux permissive for tftpd it then works. Is there a quick way to configure selinux to allow this type of tftp access (just read-only) w/o resorting to a "permissive" setting? Cannot recompile grub - checking whether the C compiler works... no

As the subject says I cannot recompile grub. Everytime I get "checking whether the C compiler works... no". I explicitely installed all packages from http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/grub/0.97/74.fc15/data/logs/x86_… and have attached those in the packages.log file. The only thing that's missing is the glibc32 package but it conflicts with glibc-2.14-2.i686. As you can see from the attached build.log the error arises in the middle of the compilation. What am I missing?

Running httpd as a user

I build websites for a living. I'd like to get /usr/sbin/httpd running as a regular user. I've setup a directory with a simple httpd.conf on my F15 install. When it starts up, I get a single message in the error log: [Fri Jul 01 23:36:53 2011] [notice] SELinux policy enabled; httpd running as context unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 I've poked at Google for a while but I don't see a way to tune SELinux to allow myself to run httpd. Any pointers? Turning SELinux off is an option, but I'd rather learn more about how SELinux really works so that I can take advantage of its benefits. -- Jonathan Gardner jgardner(a)jonathangardner.net

Kicad Questions

Hi, I just installed Kicad and I have a couple question for some one familiar with "PCB design" I generated a new part and saved in my user directory, but the program does not give me the option to access any other directory other the default. The second question, can PCB design show a picture of the part highlighted? Thank you in advance. Vinny

As far as i have understood, in f15 there no openoffice and there is libreoffice in place i am planning to upgrade f14 to f15, is it better uninstalling openoffice and let preupgrade to install libreoffice? or si better let him to do the work? -m.

X server in F14 horribly slow

After upgrading to F14, switching from one workspace to another is excruciatingly slow!! I am a gnome user. Can this be attributed to Gnome or to the X server or to the ATI Radeon driver?

HD permissions stay put

Good day, I have a multiple boot internal drive (different linux flavors)(excluding windows). Have a external usb drive for backup between these different systems. Now booting in a different flavor the permissions change to numbers. My normal permission is johan johan. I am the only user at home. It is auto boot if from boot or later. Now as root I change the owner and group -R. This is annoying . Is there a way to make it stick please. Thanks Johan S

Strange symbolic link behaviour?

Hi, I'm running FC14 and running into a strange situation with symbolic links that I have never seen or noticed before. If I create the following symbolic link: [eric@eric-laptop ~]$ pwd /home/eric [eric@eric-laptop ~]$ ls Mail draft inbox queue sent trash [eric@eric-laptop ~]$ ln -s Mail/inbox test [eric@eric-laptop ~]$ ls test 1 2 3 4 5 [eric@eric-laptop ~]$ cd test [eric@eric-laptop test]$ pwd /home/eric/test [eric@eric-laptop test]$ ls 1 2 3 4 5 [eric@eric-laptop test]$ ls .. draft inbox queue sent trash The strange behaviour here is when listing the parent directory (..). In this case, ls .. is listing the contents of Mail/ directory - not /home/eric. In the past, I always recall being able to use the parent identified (..) to move up one level in the directory structure whether in a symlink or not. In this case, I would have expected ls .. to list the contents of /home/eric - not /home/eric/Mail. Am I wrong? Am I seeing strange behaviour here? If so, is there a way to enable the behaviour I expect? Thanks! Eric

Regards and thanks a lot reading I'm very happy with Fedora after 4 years like a normal user and I think it's time to contribute to the project. So, I'm very interested to participate on the next FUDCon.
