gtk-server contact info doesn't work, so in case anybody on this list has some experience with gtk-server ... Ubuntu11 putty not working

Using Ubuntu 11 and putty on a desktop installation and a test bed ubuntu11 server installation on separate hard drives. puTTY does not display the login, username or password request, just the black puTTY window with a static green cursor, it will not accept keyboard input. I suspect there may be a file missing but have no idea what to look for. Has anyone had this and how is it solved. Alternatively is there a puTTY alternative for ubuntu 11 Using Fedora 14 and puTTY it shows login and requests user and password and grants server access. help would be appreciated, thanks Roger

Network printer detection from wifi client to print-server->router

Hi, this is my first post on the list; i have a simple question. I have a usb printer attached to a router which works also as print server (ip: 192.168.0.50, call this 'print server router'); this print server router is wire linked with another router (using RIP version 1, for both in and out), which is the gateway to internet, a router, a dhcp server, and also a wifi access point (192.168.0.1, call this 'main router'). I've got also: a) PC 1, eth linked to the main router; b) PC2, wifi linked to the main router. So: when i searched the network printer (using system-config-printer) in the PC1, it worked very well and quickly found my samsung printer; when i searched the network printer in the PC2, it couldn't find anything: but after several trials i found that putting 192.168.0.50 (which is the ip of the print server router) in the textarea host field in the system-config-printer->find network printer GUI, the printer was immediately found and worked very well. The question is: why do I have to put the ip address in the host field on the gui when configuring the network printer from PC2 (wifi), when PC1 (ethernet) doesn't need it? Maybe there is some conf of Avahi that could be changed? Thanks, Daniele Guerrieri

Strange Rhythmbox problem

I have a audio CD set with 2 CDs. CD 1 has 11 songs and CD 2 has 12. Using Rhythmbox with CD 1 the 11 songs are played without a problem. When I try this with CD 2 the following happens. The Playlist shows the 11 songs on CD 1 and they play. The first song on CD 2 appears as the 12th song on the playlist of CD 2. This 12th song can be played but the rest do not appear and do not get played. VLC Media Player can play the 12 songs on CD 2 but their names are not shown on the playlist. The songs on CD 1 do not appear on the playlist and they don't play. Obviously there is something screwy with the CDs but there is also something screwy about Rhythmbox. Problem with automatically added USB printers at system reboot

Hi, having a little problem with USB printers: I added a Samsung USB printer to my system by using an install tool provided by Samsung itself (attached at mfp:/dev/mfp4). So far so good, and the printer runs well. But each time I reboot my system, a new (this previously installed) USB printer is attached to my system, but now with uri "usb://Samsung/ML-1660%20Series". I don't know who is responsible for that. Somebody has a solution for that? My current system is F15. Any help is appreciated. Fusion Linux going Mono free?

http://fusionlinux.org/2011/07/05/fusion-linux-going-mono-free/ As you probably know Fusion Linux is a Fedora Remix that uses quite a few Mono based applications. We had requests in the past to remove all Mono based apps from Fusion Linux, but those were no constructive criticism and suggestions but just bunch of people shouting “We hate mono”. Apps that were supposed to replace Mono based ones were non-existent or if they existed they were nowhere near the Mono based ones regarding quality and features. We didn’t see any point in removing apps and disabling features that our users want just because of some Mono haters are out there are shouting “We hate mono”, and they weren’t even using Fusion Linux! If they were Fusion Linux users then we would listen to them and work together with moving away from Mono. Biggest issue I have with Mono is the size of Mono library that needs to be installed as a dependency for any of the apps – Gnome-Do, Tomboy, F-Spot, Beagle or Banshee. So there is no point if you replace 4 out of 5 because you still have Mono library installed. The good news is that I might have found replacement for the last Mono based app that I didn’t find before – Gnome-Do. Today I have discovered Synapse written by Michal Hruby written in Vala. I’ll be testing Synapse to see how it works, if you have used both Gnome-Do and Synapse please share your feedback on both. Here is the list of alternatives that I have found so far, please post any other in the comments if you know: Tomboy – GNote Gnome-Do – Synapse Banshee – Rhythmbox Beagle – Tracker F-Spot – Shotwell Also please post in the comments if you agree or disagree with the move away from Mono, also write in the comments if you are Fusion, Fedora, Ubuntu or user of any other distro. Installing F15 without any active network?

I have been installing f15 on several machines without any issue - but today I was asked to help someone install f15 on a machine which currently does not have a network connection (all previous installs were on machines with an active network connection). I may be a complete idiot but I could not for the life of me fathom out how to get the install to complete in this situation - it pops up a request to define the network a few steps into the install, and then will simply not proceed saying that some parts of the install require a network connection - clicking cancel then only gave the option of quitting the install altogether! Have I missed something obvious? Thanks -- mike c

For that reason, you have to see the avc denials; where you can check which is the process and system calls that are been denied (xinetd or tftpd) Which is the SELinux policy version in your machine? Koji fetches glibc32.x86_64 but this conflicts with glibc.i686 on my system. More important I think grub doesn't like the gcc >= 4.6.0. As you can see from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718722 there are some mismatches between stage1/stage2 when they are recompiled with gcc >= 4.6.0. Everything is fine with gcc=4.5.1 in fc14 though. You can find some of the discussion on this here: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2011-July/153799.html . I think this should have a higher priority than the deps because it renders the bootloader and hence the whole system useless. I'm sure those can wait till you're back.

F15 Gnome 3 + Nvidia Driver = No Keyboard or Mouse buttons

I'd really like to run Gnome 3 on an older computer (P4) that has nvidia (7300 GS) graphics. I installed and tried it using the nouveau driver and found it was unusable, with terribly slow graphics. So I installed the Nvidia driver, using akmod-nvidia. Installed OK. But the mouse buttons didn't work, though the mouse pointer moved OK. The Windows key and alt-f2 didn't work, but ctrl-alt-bksp worked and killed X. So I installed KDE and everything works perfectly, with the Nvidia driver. But I'd rather use Gnome 3. Anyone have a fix? Thanks, John
