reaching a server behind a NAT

Hey all, sorry if this is not purely Fedora related, but I was hoping I might get some feedback anyhow from someone who knows more than I do. I have this: A NAT-configured router between my house and the internet. A NAS behind the router. A dyndns account, set up and pointing to the global address of the router. I want to be able to reach the NAS from the internet. However, trying to do so (including attempts to bind to specific ports on the NAS) simply do not work, and I cannot tell why. I have set up the router to port-forward the correct portcalls to the NAS, but that does not solve anything. So I am stuck, any tips? Best, Chris

changing language for users doesn't work

Hi I m using fedora15 with latest update and i can't change language for users. my computers are installed in french but if i change the language in the section my account and i set it to italian for exemple when i relog i have always the menus in french and not in italian. Worse if i go to my account again it s written that italian is my language but all the menus are still in french. Does someone know how to solve that problem? -- Eric Doutreleau

Hello, There exist many tools to edit video clips on fedora, but I found no tool such easy as windows movie maker. I juste need to merge 10 images and a song. do you have an idea about easy way to make that on fedora. rpm's related to Dell

I see that there are some rpm's that contain the name Dell in the title, like: - firmware-addon-dell - yum-dellsysid The description does not contain enough information to judge what these packages do. Are these packages supplied bij Dell themselves for use with Dell servers sold with Red Hat Linux installed or can they also be used with any Dell desktop/laptop? Can they for example be used for BIOS updates or do you need special BIOS packages supplied by Dell? Alexander

I want to make sure one thing . Can I use tar to pack the file created by dd. I found use tar -rf xx.tar yyy.dd can't make the file into the tar file . Confused with UEFI, GPT, SSD, grub, et. al.

So, my old system died, and in a typical overkill fashion, I decided to put a new one together with all the latest and greatest hardware. The motherboard I ordered (ASUS P8H67-V rev 3) has a UEFI bios, and support for sata 6G/s drives. Continuing the overkill theme, I also ordered a SSD disk that talks sata 6G/s. Some web pages I have consulted on SSD drives say it is simpler to partition them on the "right" erase block boundaries using the GPT partitioning scheme. So, if I do all that, what is the process like to get fedora 15 installed on such a drive? Fedora 15 hasn't gone to grub2, so I don't know if the f15 grub understands and new magical uefi style boot procedure (I know I certainly don't, I merely hear vague things about it :-). Am I better off not trying to understand anything and just letting anaconda figure it all out? Will it do a good job with the SSD disk without manual intervention?

years ago, I had no trouble printing from a Mac on my lan to printer connected to my linux box. now, I can't seem to do it. linux box F14 using NetworkManager static ip 192.168.2.8 iMac dhcp 192.168.2.100 again, years ago I sometimes added to the cupsd.conf: ServerName 192.168.2.8, which enabled other computers on the lan to print. Since then I haven't tried to modify cupsd.conf-- it seems the modern version is far more complex.
