[F15-64Bit/VirtualBox]-How To Enable Gnome 3 Desktop?
Hi,
I installed Fedora 15 64Bit into current VirtualBox.
Installed and updated fine, but Gnome 3 is going into "fallback" mode.
I've enabled 3D acceleration and gave 128MB VRAM to the virtual machine
but I don't know how to enable Gnome 3 desktop.
Any help would be appreciated.

Epson Artisan 725: anyone using with fedora?
by Tom Horsley
I want at least scanning and DVD/CD printing to work?
(I suspect it can print on paper if it can print on DVDs :-).
Anyone used these features on fedora with this all-in-one
device? Epson does point to a 3rd party driver.

mandb -t
by Michael Schwendt
Running "mandb -t" on Fedora 16 development fills a few screens with
errors, such as:
mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/ne_set_session_flag.3: No such file or directory
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man3/ne_get_session_flag.3.gz: bad symlink or ROFF `.so' request
mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/ne_buffer_append.3: No such file or directory
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man3/ne_buffer_zappend.3.gz: bad symlink or ROFF `.so' request
mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/ne_malloc.3: No such file or directory
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man3/ne_strndup.3.gz: bad symlink or ROFF `.so' request
mandb: can't open /usr/share/man/ne_set_useragent.3: No such file or directory
mandb: warning: /usr/share/man/man3/ne_set_read_timeout.3.gz: bad symlink or ROFF `.so' request
[...]
Examining the first two lines:
$ zcat /usr/share/man/man3/ne_get_session_flag.3.gz
.so ne_set_session_flag.3
And "man ne_set_session_flag" works.
What's wrong here?

LVM problem
by Gijs
Hello List,
I had some trouble with a raid 5 setup, but I managed to get it
activated again. However, when I tried to activate the LVM-volumes on
the raid 5 system, LVM had trouble activating one of the volumes.
When I type in "lvchange -a y /dev/raid-5/data", it returns the
following errors:
device-mapper: resume ioctl failed: Invalid argument
Unable to resume raid--5-data (253:2)
Checking dmesg, it says this:
device-mapper: table: 253:2: md127 too small for target:
start=5897914368, len=1908400128, dev_size=7806312448
I calculated that LVM is missing exactly 1MB for some reason. Why and
how, I have no idea. The other logical volumes of the raid-5 physical
volume activated with no problem at all. It's just this one.
My current setup includes 5 1TB disks, with a software raid-5 partition
on top of it. On top of this, is LVM with 3 logical volumes.
Some other info:

So my question is, is it possible to tell LVM to perform a check on the
LVM volume to correct the size-mismatch? Or is there any other way to
tell LVM to shrink the size of the volume to the correct size?
Preferably without touching any data of the volume itself, since I don't
want to risk loosing data. Or maybe increase the size of the volume so
that LVM can actually activate the data volume?
Kind regards,
Gijs

Setting Command line to 80 x 25 ascii mode
by Sanjay Arora
Hello all
I am using kde on fedora 15. I need to setup a couple of login terminals on
Alt-F2/F3 to 80x25 ascii resolution (of the dos/cga days). Have researched a
lot but can't seem to find a short & simple answer.
Please point out links for changing display mode on the fly and permanent
changes.
With best regards.
Sanjay.

davfs2 - Problem
by sterntaler.10@googlemail.com
Hi,
I have problem in using davfs2.
I can mount the filesystem and can remove files from the fs but could
not create any file on the davfs.
I am running FC14 and the davfs2 packages is FC13
(davfs2-1.4.5-2.fc13.i686)
My /etc/fstab looks like:
# BOX NET
https://www.box.net/dav /media/box.net davfs
rw,noauto,user,uid=500,gid=100 0 0
I mount the drive as su like:
sudo mount /media/box.net
~ $ df
Dateisystem Size Used Avail Use% Eingehängt auf
/dev/mapper/vg_gibi-lv_root

https://www.box.net/dav
26G 13G 13G 50% /media/box.net
I can list the filesystem:
ll /media/box.net/

The user and group setting are correct (UID=500(rsy), and GID
=100(users)
If I try to copy a file to /media/box.net I got:
% cp bin/pefrename.sh /media/box.net
cp: reguläre Datei „/media/box.net/pefrename.sh“ kann nicht angelegt
werden: Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler
Translation: Regular file : could not create file :IO Error
Is there any flag to enable adding a file to the filesystem ?
Removing a file is no problem.
Thanks for any hint

Ideas to get around error connecting an ACER Iconia Tab A500
by Mark C. Allman
Kernel: 2.6.40.4-5.fc15.x86_64

libmtp-examples-1.0.6-3.fc15.x86_64
libmtp-hal-1.0.6-3.fc15.x86_64
I connect the tablet and see the device /dev/libmtp-2-1 (which is a link
to a device in /dev/bus/usb/...). I can get some data from the device
by using dd so I can open and talk to the tablet.
dd if=/dev/libmtp-2-1 bs=40 count=10 of=test.data
2+0 records in
2+0 records out
80 bytes (80 B) copied, 7.2846e-05 s, 1.1 MB/s
When I try to mount it via:
mount -t fuse /dev/libmtp-2-1 /media/test
I get:
/bin/sh: /dev/bus/usb/002/004: Permission denied
I'm doing all this as root so the "Permission denied" error is something
not-so-obvious. Anyone have a suggestion to try?
TIA.

Help... screwed up video config
by John Aldrich
I somehow managed to screw up my video config by changing the default
monitor and now X won't start. I told it I had a Dell E1701 flat
panel. Turns out I actually have a Dell E1703FP. Well, I checked and
the scan ranges are identical, so it shouldn't matter.
I've tried deleting the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and re-running
system-config-display, but it always craps out.
This is on an integrated nVidia chipset graphics card. I'm afraid I
don't know the exact, but I'm not using special binary drivers or
anything, just standard Vesa drivers.

Network Interface Question
by Thomas Dineen
Gentle People:
I have a Fedora 14 Desktop that I am quite happy with!
Great software!
But when I boot it up the ethernet network Interfaces come
up in the disabled state, and after login I have to turn them
on from the menu icon located in the upper right hand
corner of the screen!
I am planning to build a Fedora 14 file server next, so I
wonder is there a way to get the network interfaces to be
enabled automatically at boot? I know that both Red Hat
7.2 and 9.0 do this.
Thanks for the help.
