Soundblaster

I have two similar PC (old Pentium but workin fine) In Pc no.1 I upgraded from RH8 to Fedora and it went fine: Soundblaster is working fine In Pc no.2 I made a fresh installation but in redhat-sound-config Fedora doesn't see any card, that was working on Redhat 9 after soundconfig... Where is the trick?? I assume that my Sounblaster is an old 16...but fine on a router/firewall. Tnx Antonio

What happened to floppy drive support?

I've been using a floppy boot disk as reserve if my HD boot fails, But it appears floppy support as now been removed. Why? Then how can I create an emergency media that is flexible enough to be updated as required? JB

Fedora hangs driving me nuts, in Windows it works without problems!

My work Fedora 17 64bit box gangs without reason, and I can't track down issue causing it! When I reboot into Windows 7 32bit it works for days without any hangs. This is a company PC so IT installed Windows 7, but I don't use it, that is why I installed Fedora and use it as my primary desktop. I'm not some guru sysadmin, but I'm not a newbie, as I have been using Linux over 10 years as my primary desktop and have few private servers that I maintain, I have troubleshooted and fixed numerous issues with mine and friends machines. My desktop works perfectly for hours, sometime for days, but after some time (usually 1-2 days) it just freezes. It doesn't matter how many free memory I have, which apps I'm runnig or which desktop I'm using. I tried leaving just desktop running with no apps, still freezes, changed desktops, kde - hangs, gnome 3 - hangs, mate - gangs, tried leaving multiple apps doing something, still hangs. I ran memory test utils, memory is working ok. These gangs are driving me nuts! Is anybody having unexplained hangs with Fedora 16 and 17 64bit? Could it be some 64bit issue because Windows is 32bit and it works? How can I troubleshoot what is causing hangs of my machine? Print Job Not getting to Printer

Fedora 17 Samsung CLX3175FX, CLX3170 Series driver. The driver for this printer does work in Fedora 17 on about ten other boxes with Fedora 17. But not on this HP Pavilion S5510F PC, in Fedora 17 , I had it working on Fedora 15. Here is some simple commands I have run and the printer in seen . The Router even sees the printer at 192.168.1.127. Cupsd is running in Services. What are the limitations of preupgrade

Preupgrade used to be quite limited in capability, and restricted to a single version upgrade at a time. I have some systems I would rather not upgrade by hand if possible, but they need to go from fc13 to fc17, and I'm sure doing it insteps would take more effort on my part than a single step and some fixup. I noted that preupgrade offers to try to go to to fc17 in a single step, but it's not obvious if it's kidding me or itself. Downtime should be minimized, so it's worth at least considering. Renewing sendmail.pem, and other self-signed certs

I have an original sendmail.pem that was generated with /etc/pki/tls/certs/make-dummy-cert (which is similar to /etc/pki/tls/certs/Makefile), but it's now expired. Bugzilla - Modeset - Kernel 3.4 to 3.6 upgrade no longer boots

Good afternoon, I have been running my laptop on various versions of FC without a problem and am currently on FC16 running Gnome 3 in full mode. Recently the FC16 Kernel was updated from 3.4.11 to 3.6.2 and my laptop (Dell Latitude D610 ) would no longer boot - although I could go back to any 3.4 kernel and it booted ok and worked under Gnome 3. There were no messages on the failed 3.6.x boot - the screen just went blank. After a bit of delving it seemed that a similar problem had been reported in relation to Plymouth and modesetting. Following that track lead me to 'Bug 845745 - kernel version 3.5.0-2 hangs at boot with modesetting: "conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfb vs VESA VGA - removing generic driver" ' on Fedora Bugzilla. I did try the 'nomodeset', and that does allow a boot under 3.6.2, but then Gnome 3 goes into fallback mode. Does anyone know if this will be fixed under FC16, or is this a generic Kernel fix that will appear across all releases that use that kernel?

IPTABLES and EBTABLES

Hello, How can be used EBTABLES in addition to IPTABLES to forward traffic from an internal LAN to an external? Suppose that I have an internal LAN with private IPs, and a Gateway that control the traffic to the outside, and I only need forward traffic for certain MAC address regardless IP address. INTERNET --> Gateway <--- LAN I'm not sure if I have to enable the following modules in `sysctl.conf`: net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 I have tried with the following configuration, but nothing happens: # ebtables -F # ebtables -t nat -F # ebtables -P INPUT ACCEPT # ebtables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT # ebtables -P FORWARD ACCEPT # ebtables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT # ebtables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s INTERNAL_LAN_CLIENT_MAC -o eth1 \ -j snat --to-source MAC_OF_EXTERNAL_GATEWAY_INTERFACE Any thought will be highly appreciated. html/css display on fedora is different than from other os ( windows, ...)

Hello why is html/css display on fedora on firefox and google chrome alike is different than on other os ? some times the size of a font can break the display of a site which looks right on windows and not on fedora. is there a way to work around this issue by tweaking some settings on firefox and google chrome ? thanks
