Hello, Since I updated in fedora 16 (including the last updates), I cannot install math::gsl anymore. I got a failure in the ./Build test using either cpan or the manual installation. According to Jonathan Leto it is an issue with the perl installation. How can we make progresses? [F16] Why PAE kernel with 1 GB RAM?

Hello Fedora fans! Freshly installed Fedora 16 for 32 bit (i686) from DVD on a Pentium 4 with 1 GB RAM. Why does Fedora 16 installs a PAE kernel by default? Previous versions of Fedora (on that machine) did not install the PAE kernel but the regular one. I've seen people on the web asking why they did *not* get a PAE kernel on their F16/i686 with 4 GB RAM or more. So why did I get PAE? According to Red Hat, PAE comes with a performance hit from 0 to 10%. I don't plan to put any additional RAM in that machine, so I'll never need PAE and instead I prefer to get maximum CPU performance. Unfortunately, the installation of the regular kernel & kernel-devel packages with "rpm -Uvh" from the DVD didn't update /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. Is there are clean way to make the non-PAE kernel the default kernel? I would have used "yum localinstall" but because the machine has no Internet connection, yum failed because of some trouble with repomd.xml. Shouldn't "rpm" run the same pre/post-processing scripts as yum? Greetings, Andreas

Connect to Wi-Fi AP based on mac address?

I wonder if there is a way to make a wifi adapter connect to an access point but based on its mac address instead of SSID?. The situation I have is that there´s two APs with the same SSID but diferent signal strengts, both open, no encryption, and using different back end providers. I do not control the APs, I just want to connect to the farther one, which I receive with 30% signal quality, instead of the closer one, with 90% signal. I run F16 and the adapter is a USB cantenna. gdbm automatic login doesn't work in the xfce spin

I installed the F16 XFCE spin on this laptop. I copied /etc/gdm/custom.conf from another Gnome machine that has automatic GDM login working just fine. On this machine though, the "Automatic Login" gdm banner comes up for a few seconds, then inexplicably disappears and gets replaced with a regular login banner. What's up with that?

Choice of repository error I think

I recently installed F16. I had the fedora-update.repo repository enabled when I ran yum. Should fedora-updates.repo be enabled? Yum installed firefox-10.0-1.fc16.x86_64 and xulrunner-10.0-1.fc16.x86_64. This combination does not appear to work. I do not know how to get back to where I was before the upgrade. I tried: yum downgrade yum distribution-synchronization after disabling the fedora-updates.repo. Any assistance would be appreciated. I am trying to return from Ubuntu, so it has been awhile. Don --

Kernel tainted

Hello, I see that my kernel is tainted but I don't know which module to blame. The taint code is 4096, so it must be a out-of-tree module. I have listed all modules, and all seem to be in-tree, I have used this command: # lsmod | awk {'print $1'} | xargs modinfo | grep intree and all modules have intree: Y I have examined the kernel logs, but can't find why the kernel is tainted. I haven't compiled any kernel module myself, all are bundled in Fedora 16 default kernel. How can I debug this? Hello to all, I've web-server Apache: *[root@services share]# httpd -v Server version: Apache/2.2.17 (Unix)* on Fedora Linux: *[root@services share]# cat /etc/issue Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) * And I have domain example.domain.com where I want to see file listing in the current directory, but when I go in the browser to example.domain.com I get the next error: *Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server.* So I don't know what is the problem =( My httpd.conf: *<Directory /> Order allow,deny Allow from All AllowOverride All IndexOptions +FancyIndexing Options +Indexes Includes MultiViews FollowSymLinks AuthConfig FileInfo </Directory>* My .htaccess file: *[root@services QaTests]# cat .htaccess Options +Indexes * My directory: *drwxrwsrwt 5 root apache 4096 Jan 26 17:15 QaTests* What could be a problem I don't have any idea? Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 Hybrid 750GB

This drive uses 4KB sectors. My older 750GB Seagate drive uses 512 sectors. Do the current Linux filesystems and partitioners support this new 4K sector drive? Thanx, JD

Fedora 14=>16 Logrotate, Systemctl, Httpd, SSL problem

People, I have upgraded my server from Fedora 14 to Fedora 16 (x86_64) - most things are going again happily but there are a few remaining problems - the main one at the moment involves Logrotate, Systemctl, Httpd and SSL. My logrotate.conf is set up for daily rotations so I get old logs like: /var/log/httpd/access_log-20120202 but, presumably because of the changes from "service" to "systemctl" and a problem with restarting httpd and not entering a password at the tty prompt, logged data continues to be sent to the old, rotated file ie: /var/log/httpd/access_log-20120202 instead of: /var/log/httpd/access_log It looks like this was a known issue with the introduction of Fedora 15 and that it should have been fixed: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=707917 - but it doesn't appear to be in my case - is there something I am missing?
