Only you can answer that. Ask yourself what you can afford to lose.

Hardly surprising if you're doing it with tar, which is making a
complete copy every time. That's the wrong approach. As I mentioned
earlier, rsnapshot, obnam and others can do incremental backups which
take up little space. They are also better run as cron jobs, i.e.
automatically. I run mine when my system is quiescent (4am every day)
but again that's your call.
And it goes without saying that the backup should be to another machine,
e.g. using rsync or a net-mounted filesystem.
Note that these are recommendations for a personal system that you can't
afford to lose. For larger systems you might want to look at solutions
such as Amanda or Bacula (not that these won't work on a personal system
as well, they just need a bit more setting up).
-----Original Message-----
I can second that.
We're using rsnapshot for over 100 systems, combined with the traditional method that came from the days that people were still using tapes: daily (incremental), weekly(full), monthly (full).
And if you are worried about size, we do only the changeable stuff. (/home, /etc, /srv)
Anything else we regard as waste-of-time, as systems (iron&virtual) are installed automatically from templates in less than a few minutes.

fedora 18 and lsi latest kernels don't boot
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
default 3.6.10-4.fc18.x86_64 f18 install kernel is ok.
Instead both
kernel-3.8.4-202.fc18
and
3.7.9-205.fc18
stop at boot with error and systemd emergency shell and journalctl
shows like in this picture:

any hint?
I suspect raid controller:
The same thing happens on two intel blades after I install f18 and run
a yum update.

Bob, thanks, that should do the trick.
(appear to be competing schools of thought here, some strongly for, some
strongly against).
I'll try both ;-)

postfix, /etc/alias db?

my last two times updating my mail server postfix started and didn't use
the definition of /etc/alias.dbm .
I ran newaliases && systemctl restart postfix and it saw them. Is there
anything in the upgrade that would maybe delete the db?

odd

alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases

Hi,
Most likely not a fedora issue.
I have simular behaviour with other distro. Looks like a cups-problem.

Has anyone had this problem, even tho you change settings to print
Landscape it will only print in Portrait
There is a Bug report, I assume on this problem and they said they would
test the problem in Fedora 19, does this mean we will not see a fix in
Fedora 18 ? we will have to wait 6 months or longer till Fedora 19 comes
out, I hope not

driver for a printer connected to a remote computer
by antonio montagnani
A printer connected to a computer on my network is easily discovered but
driver is generally a Raw generic driver: therefore I cannot use part of
options (i.e. printing multiple pages on a single sheet and so on).
If I want to have full functionality I have to install driver by hand
using system-config-printer.
(I am using a Samsung ML-1610 laser printer)
Is this behaviour normal??

The computer where the printer is connected is a F18 system, the other computers run on F18 or Ubuntu (that has the same behaviour)

I suppose the first question would be:
How is this printer that is connected to a computer on your network
being shared by that computer?
Is the machine that the printer is connected to also running F-18?

You need to install network printers too. This means you need to choose
the appropriate drivers to get a complete functionality. Usually Fedora
ships most printer drivers, if the driver for your printer is missing
please try to file a bugzilla report.
Hope this helps,
