Error Message Displayed at Boot Before Grub2 Menu
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
Whenever I boot my machine, before the grub menu is displayed, I
get a message about not being able to find /grub2/locale/en.mo.gz.
Directory /grub2 does not exist, let alone /grub2/locale, however
directory /boot/grub2/locale does exist but it does not contain file
en.mo.gz.
How do I determine where the statements that cause grub to look
this file are located so that I can try to correct the issue?
I am getting this message in Fedora 18, but I was also getting the
message in Fedora 17 also, even when Fedora 17 was installed from scratch.
regards,
Steve

Try to use xinput for both mouse and touchpad.
xinput list
# xinput list_props "$device_name_or_number"
xinput list-props 10
Turn on three button emulation.
xinput set-prop 10 "Evdev Middle Button Emulation" 1

anyone managed to install F18 or f19 beta under Virtualbox???
by Fernando Cassia
Attempted 32-bit F18 XFCE install under 64bit Win7 host and Virtualbox
4.2.12 fails at the disk partitioning screen in anaconda with the error
"Failed to save storage configuration".
It seems I have hit the same scenario as this user
http://oxyphosphate3.rssing.com/chan-3353872/all_p101.html
The "solution" of "installing F17 then using FedUp to upgrade to F18" seems
like a bad joke...
If anaconda is broken, has anybody thought about refreshing the
LiveCD/install cd images??
I have also tried F19 beta, and wanted to select manual partitioning
selecting ext2, but Im unable to get past this screen, I cant even click on
existing partitions and select delete... I click and nothing happens...
http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1414/aey.png
this has to be one of the most brain-damaged installers Ive seen...

fedup upgrade to 18 broke my touchpad on DELL Vostro
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks.
I followed the instructions as per
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedUp#How_Can_I_Upgrade_My_System_with_FedU...
and all seemed to go fine - no errors that I saw. However, having completed
the upgrade the touchpad in my DELL Vostro has stopped working. It seems to
view it as a PS/2 mouse but then it doesn't work, neither the pad or the
buttons.
There are *old* references to this in Google but nothing I can use to fix the
problem. Yum update doesn't fix it.
Does anyone have instructions simple enough for me to follow to fix it. Below
are the outputs of xinput and lspci. I can't see anything
in /var/log/messages but that doesn't mean there isn't something in there

Check what you have set currently.
gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse
middle-button-enabled
If this returns false then you can turn this on.
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse
middle-button-enabled true

I haven't used KDE for quite a long time so YMMV.
Create a script with the xinput set command and make it executable.
Test to make sure it works.
Then Goto System Settings > Startup and Shutdown > Autostart, then click
Add Program, enter:
your script.

Sound keeps changing in Fedora18
by Mickey
The sound keeps changing in Fedora 18/ KDE.
I go into Pavcontrol and Alsa is set to 100% in Playback, I have to move
it up to 150% to hear sound at a proper level.
The Mixer controls are set to max but you can barely hear audio.
If I play a song off Hard drive it is to loud, and I open Mixer and
reduce audio to a comfort level and then move it back to max output and
the sound level does not go back up.

ping -R on Fedora 18 d does not work (firewalld problem?)
by Kevin Wilson
Hello,
I try:
ping -R www.google.com
I get:
PING www.google.com (173.194.113.112) 56(124) bytes of data.
but the list of nodes does not appear, and I wait for more than 5 minutes.
traceroute www.google.com gives immediately the list of nodes.
This is fedora 18, iptables stopped (and flushed), firewalld stopped.
Could it be somehow due to not flushing firewalld rules ? (I don't
know much about firewalld)

Kevin
