KVM, how to save setup -
by Bob Goodwin
I've been trying KVM using CentOS-6.4 and xfce. Virt-manager brings up
Centos ok but any configuration seems to be lost, at least it was this
morning. The xfce display came up as the default, Thunderbird e-mail
configuration had to be redone, etc.
Can I save the config. and if so what do I do to ensure it's there on
next boot?

File open/save dialog sort order
by Michael Eager
I reinstalled Fedora 18 with KDE and I notice a change in
the order in which directories and files are displayed.
In some applications, the sort is now case sensitive, so
that all the initial capitals are listed before the initial
lower case names. Previously, the names were sorted without
case sensitivity.
I see this behavior in Firefox, Thunderbird, Acroread and
others. There are other application where the file dialog
sorts files using a case insensitive sort, like Dolphin, k3b,
or kget.
I edited kdeglobals to add "Sort case insensitively=true" to
the [KFileDialog Settings] section. This should be the
default. It did not make any difference.
Any suggestions on how to set the file name sort order?

Samba vs NAS vs NFSv4
by Fernando Lozano
Hi there,
Here we have been using Samba (2 & 3) for yeas as the main file server
and also as PDC (integrated with LDAP) so we have centralized account
management for both Linux and Windows server and clients.
Now we intent to put most of our data on centralized storage, and are
evaluating many entry-level SAN products lie HP P2000G3 and Dell MD3200.
We are also intrigued with some ebtry-level NAS solutions from Iomega,
EMC and IBM. Maybe someone on the list can share his/her experience
about NAS servers vs Samba3:
- Will a NAS server provide SMB/CIFS shares, integrated with Samba
domain security? Or will then need a Microsoft Active Domain Controller?
- Moving to Samba4 (or FreeIPA) would solve those issues, if I can't use
the current Samba3 PDC and BDC with a NAS server?
- NFS access to the NAS server will be compatible with latest NFSv4
security, or will it require the "trust-based" weak security model from
NFSv3 and v2?

F18 and GoogleEarth
by Ranjan Maitra
So, I decided to try installing GoogleEarth (GE) for the first time
ever. I found the following:
http://fedora18tutorial.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-install-google-earth-...
and tried it the following:
% wget -c
http://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_...
%sudo yum localinstall google-earth-stable_current_x86_64.rpm
But I got the following:
Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/bin from install of google-earth-stable-7.1.1.1871-0.x86_64
conflicts with file from package filesystem-3.1-2.fc18.x86_64
Error Summary
-------------
Any way around it?
Many thanks,
Ranjan

Re: retrofitting LUKS encryption on installed system
by J.Witvliet@mindef.nl
Yeah,
Some netbooks are equiped with athoms, no chance of changing that.
I meant that full disk encryption is an option, but there might be (better/more appropriate) alternatives.
sometimes you see drastic overkills. Sure, private data needs to be protected! But the rest?? First analyze _what_ you exactly need to protect, and against _who_ .....
