F18 CUPS 1.5 -> F19 CUPS 1.6 weirdness

After giving up on getting printer discovery to work I decided to directly add the network printer (shared from my F19 desktop) to my wife's F18 laptop. Initial setup was not a problem but I've had some quirkyness since. 1. In Google Chrome, it locks up either during preview generation or in trying to print. Printing works in Firefox 2. The client can't modify ANY of the major printer settings like orientation, paper size, etc. Ideas? Thanks, Richard

F19 display weird

On an old laptop (IBM-refurbished T30 Thinkpad), F18 had been running fine (using xfce) for months. I followed the directions at http:// fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedUp (except that I became root on gnome- terminal, instead of using sudo). I ran 'yum update' and rebooted. I ran 'fedup-cli --network 19', but forgot to check the log. I chose System Upgrade from grub. When it finally finished, I ran 'yum update' just for lagniappe, and rebooted yet again. Then the weirdness hit, making the display all but useless for my ancient eyeballs: it looks as if a sheet of transparent deep red plastic were covering the screen. The boot messages are beyond my vision. (I tried to watch them.) I can just make out the splash screen, select xfce, and log in. Once I do, I can see the logo at bottom center, and the mouse cursor; moving that slowly across the top of the screen, with frequent pauses, got me once to a list of options starting with high contrast. I clicked that, but haven't been able to get back to it. Moving the cursor by about the width of any letter in the logo, and lingering longer than is normally necessary, seems to have been exhausted by that one use. I can ssh into the laptop from the machine I'm on now, and become root; but I'm running short on ideas. configure yum to ignore kernel updates?

Is there a way to configure yum to ignore kernel updates besides manually removing an update before the update? The problem is that there's a very strong chance a kernel update will break drivers (read: nvidia), and I don't want to have to swing to extremes, like not updating at all... I updated a machine to kernel 3.11.1, and it just sits at the fedora logo. I couldn't even ctrl+alt-F2, but if I set grub to run level 3 and look at the logs, it seems the nvidia module won't load due to not being built for the 3.11.1 kernel. Apparently akmod can't rebuild because the nvidia drivers need num_physpages, which has been removed in 3.11. I tried to update the nvidia drivers, but I am on the latest version that rmpfusion allows for Fedora 19 (319.23) So, I just decided to remove the update 3.11.1 kernel. I don't need it... yet. I saw a thread a while ago on this list discussing the decision to update or just wait for a new Fedora release. If yum can't be told to ignore certain updates, I may switch camps. It's not worth my time and effort to keep a machine up-to-date if those updates are going to sporadically break the machine and require investigation.

I use Geneweb on my computer for genealogy without problem for 5 years ago. i don't update it today but now when i modify an ancestor a i have a message "the connexion is reset". Same problem with firefox and chrome. ping is good. Any idea Thanks

ssh - server->target

Hi. testing priv/pub keys... working on a local server, behind firewall, with it's own dhcp ip. the external wan ip is not the same as the internal ip. create the priv/pub key for the local server the normal ssh user(a)target.com works change the local eth0 ipaddress... rerun the ssh user(a)target.com works as expected... so, changing local eth0/ipaddress doesn't require changing the priv/pub keypair however, the one thing I haven't tested, is to be able to change the external ipaddress of either the local/target server.. I'm of the opinion that this wouldn't change the priv/pub key, but I might be missing something.. thoughts/comments? thanks

Goa daemon eats all my cpu

Hi all, Go daemon keeps grabbing 100% of my cpu. I don't really know what it is, good tells me it is something to do with online accounts (which I never use). Is there some way to tame it? Or any way to switch it off completely? It is drawing a lot of power... ssh - config setup file conflict??

Testing out setting up ssh - using priv/pub keys The test config file cat /home/foo/.ssh/config HostName 192.168.5.18 User foo IdentityFile /home/foo/id_rsa_foo i can ssh foo(a)192.168.5.18 with no issue, works as it should however, any other ssh is also intercepted by the config file.. ie ssh abc(a)123.456 comes back with a "ssh: connect to host 192.168.5.18 port 50122: Connection refused" but if i do a ssh -i id_rsa_foo abc(a)123.456 the connection is accepted/connects it appears the config file is somehow screwing things up... so how can the config be setup to only be used for the specified "hostname" and to not be used if the targeted domain isn't in the config file... thanks

Mouse pointer becomes white square

I just installed fedora 19 on an older machine with an Asus M2X-MX motherboard. It is a machine going to a handicapped person with zero $$$. The onboard VGA is an nvidia 6100. I installed kmod-nvidia-304xx. The mouse pointer turns to a white square using nouveau and the kmod driver. It was a bit worse using nouveau. Launching firefox resulted in a complete freeze with distorted lines across the screen. The nvidia installation solved that issue, but not the mouse pointer issue. Would this be solely a hardware related issue, or is there somethign else I should look at? Any input would be appreciated... Thanks!

Fedup error

I'm trying to upgrade 17 -> 18 & I keep getting this message: ' $ sudo fedup-cli --network 18 setting up repos... default-installrepo/metalink | 34 kB 00:00:00 fedora/18/i386/metalink | 34 kB 00:00:00 No upgrade available for the following repos: fedora updates Error: can't get boot images. The installation repo isn't available. You need to specify one with --instrepo.' Any ideas how to fix this?
