problem with Dependency Resolution
by Angelo Moreschini
Hi
I removed a preceding version of dconf-Editor, and now I am not able to
istall again dconf-editor-0.15.0-4mgc30.x86_64.rpm.
When I try to do it I get this output:
----------------------------
[root@zorro Downloads]# su -c 'yum localinstall

Loaded plugins: langpacks, refresh-packagekit

I tried (how suggested)
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest dconf-editor-0.15.0-4mgc30.x86_64.rpm
then I didn't get error messages .. but the situation was not changed..
What can I to do to install again dconf-editor-0.15.0-4mgc30.x86_64.rpm .
Thank you

Well, I did read a bit more..... Red is the system memory portion. Orange is user memory.

Unable to set up a two way passwordless ssh
by John M Cavallo
I have two Fedora 20 boxes that I am trying to set up a passwordless login
from each to the other. I am able to set up the login from one, bert, to the
other, ernie, but not the other way around.
To create it, I do the following:
On bert,
remote_user=jack@ernie
ssh-keygen -t dsa
ssh ${remote_user} mkdir -p .ssh
ssh ${remote_user} chmod 700 .ssh
cat .ssh/id_dsa.pub | ssh ${remote_user} 'cat >> .ssh/authorized_keys'
ssh ${remote_user} chmod 600 .ssh/authorized_keys
Then when I execute
ssh ${remote_user}
I can go from bert to ernie without a password. Reversing the process however
doesn't work, I still need a password to go from ernie to bert. What is most
confusing is that I haven't found any configuration option that is different
between the two.

F20: message from syslogd and soft lockup/kernel bug
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have been having this issue sometimes (not always but quite
frequently) upon wakeup from hibernate for the past few days (on a
newly installed notebook) which is a Dell Precision M3800.
I get the following message on my consoles:
Message from syslogd@....
kernel:BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 22s!
What is the problem? Is the problem with the laptop or the kernel?
I am using kernel-3.16.2-201.fc20.x86_64 on Fedora 20.
The laptop has 12GB memory and 16GB swap.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

strange behavior by changing the permissions of a file
by Angelo Moreschini
failing to perform "dconf Editor" I discovered that I have to change the
execute permissions to the file user, in my directoy :
/home/angelo_dev/.config/dconf./user
-----
-rw-r--r--. 1 angelo_dev angelo_dev 7630 Oct 13 09:53 user
-----
I ran the command [root @ zorro dconf] # chmod a + x user
and after I made this I saw the changement:
-----
-rwxr-xr-x. 1 angelo_dev angelo_dev 7630 Oct 13 09:53 user
-----
however
"dconf Editor" doesn't yet worked..
So I again tested the permissions for the file user
and I was amazed to see that the file user
once again had not permission to be executed..
-----
-rw-r--r--. 1 angelo_dev angelo_dev 7630 Oct 13 10:07 user
-----
I can think that running "dconf Editor" change permission to file user...
What I can do ?
I ask some help as I am yet beginner with Linux..
Thank you

solution for a quick/robust/secure broadcast issue
by bruce
Hi.
For a test network, internal 192.168..x subnet, I've got some boxes
that are connected to a dhcp server that I have no control of.
I'm looking to test/play with some services on the different boxes,
but would like to have other boxes be able to reference the boxes
running the services. My issue, the box running service X could have
ip1 which could then change to ip2 the next day..
I'm considering some sort of cheap/fast broadcast process where the
machines running the given services, broadcast out to the network "i'm
boxA running service Foo on ipXX" and the listening machine would then
decouple the message, and update the resolve.conf file, or whatever
the required file is to then be able to use the required name/ip for
the service..
Thoughts/comments??
Would nc be good for this, would there be a better solution?
Should I create a limited user on each box, and have a process
attached to the user listen, and process the messages?
Thanks guys..

Canon MG5520 wireless printer
by Kevin Cummings
My volleyball club just bought a new printer.
When I plugged my laptop into the USB cable, CUPS tried to auto-install
it, but it failed. I saw multiple USB connects and disconnects in the
log. The last log entries in every series were disconnects. The pop-up
window claiming it was installing never went away, it just sat there.
Next step, I googled the printer linux support, and found the canon
linux print drivers. I downloaded
cnijfilter-mg5500series-4.00-1-rpm.tar.gz from Canon, untarred it, and
ran the install.sh script. After it finished, I can now print to the
printer via USB cable. (MG5500USB printer added to my system.)
Next step, I made sure the printer was connected to the correct wireless
network. When I had, I can now print to the printer via AirPrint from
my iPhone.
Final step, I can't seem to make my laptop see the printer wirelessly.
How can print to this printer without plugging into the USB cable?
