Backup solution
by Ali AlipourR
Hi
I'm new to Linux and unix-like systems, I need some advice on backup
solution for file level and block level backups
for file-level backups I found fsarchiver, dar, tar and for
file-system-level fsarchiver, clonezilla/partclone and dd appropriate
based on my requirements
(data integrity and confidentiality, mount and single-file-restoration
capabilities, btrfs and GPT support, ACL/Selinux preservation, xz
compression)
Advantage of tar and dd is that they are available every where but I'm
mostly concerned about file integrity with tar
and dd copies all unused blocks of file system too (fsarchiver or
clonezilla/partclone will only copy file-system + MBR)
I need some advice on Backup solutions, what is your personal methods
and solutions?
Any advice would be most welcome
Thanks

F21 server and vesa
by Kevin Wilson
Hello,
I installed F21 server, x86_64.
Now, as expected from a server, it does not contain kde or gnome.
I know that server usually does not need to run XWindows applications.
However, I need from time to time to use xwindows applications on the
server, like some
monitoring tools (wireshark and others).
So I ran "yum install -y @kde" and after it completer, I ran:
startx.
However, I got this error:
...
(EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist)
...
And X windows did not start.
Is there any way to resolve this and enable running XWindows ?
Regards,
Kevin

Garbage on screen with F20 & F21 - ATI free drivers
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
I got a garbaged screen since a big xorg update about 3 weeks agoon F20.
I usually don't complain as problems tend to get fixed very fast. Though
this one didn't and I decided to upgrade to F21...to notice the problem
is there too. I haven't found any recent bug describing the issue and
was therefore posting here wondering if it was me or not.
A bit more information about this issue:

fedup: WiFi failure
by Timothy Murphy
After updating Fedora-20/KDE to Fedora-21 on my ThinkPad-T61 with fedup,
I find that WiFi is no longer working.
The WiFi card is Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 .
It seems that the kernel-modules package was not updated by fedup,
although this is not metioned in /var/log/fedup.log .
After yum-installing kernel-modules and running "sudo modprobe iwl4965",
lsmod shows that the module is installed,
but WiFi is still not working, even after re-booting,
though the module remained loaded.
I'm not sure what to do in these systemd days -
in previous times I might have looked at /etc/udev/rules.d/
but this seems denuded now.
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

Raid 1 and Anaconda -
by Bob Goodwin
I want to install Fedora 21 Server.
I have two "750G" drives, both formatted for raid, type "fd." boot 2G, /
30G, home/ whatever the remainder. I did not create a file system,
assuming that would be created by the installer?
Anyway, Raid is not being offered as an option. I've had this problem
with SL-7 also, and know that if I proceed with the installation I will
have everything installed on one disk without the mirrored raid, Or
perhaps I need to use LVM rather than standard partitions?.
What am I doing wrong?
Bob.

R in F21 older than in F19
by Heinz Diehl
Hi,
installed one machine with F21 today. One of the programs I'm using
most is the statistical software R. What's weird is that on F19, R is
in the version 3.1.2, while the 2 releases newer F21 has version
3.1.1.
Does anybody know what's going on here?

after upgrade 20->21 gnome crashes when using rpmfusion's kmod-nvidia
by Jouk Jansen
Hi All
I upgraded my systems from 20 to 21 using FEDUP. On one of these systems I
did into problems when using kmod-nvidia from rpmfusion.
Just after the upgrade boot did hang just before starting the gnome display
manager (so no login screen). After removing all the kmod-nvidia's the
machine booted correctly. After that I tried to install kmod-nvidia again,
but this results in a crash of gnome when it tries to setup the login screen.
Does anybody know or point me in the direction of a solution?
Regards
Jouk

So what went wrong, exactly?
by Tom Horsley
When I installed fedora 21 alpha a while back, I was able
to get my nvidia GTX 750 Ti to work fairly well with binary
drivers from rpmfusion.
I've just re-installed 21 from the workstation live iso,
and all I can get with a fresh install is the screen that
says "Oh no something has gone wrong!".
So X is working well enough to display that screen, but
it would be nice to know what has gone wrong (and, of
course, I have no useful log files since systemd has
hidden all info behind cryptic binary files now).
Any clues how to investigate this?
