Hello, Very often I reach a situation where I cannot work because fedora is swapping permanently. I attach the top file. I need to restart the machine to have it fix! rpm -V - verifying packages

Hello, I don't know if I found a bug with upgrade or if there is a strange issue with rpm. I have upgraded from F19 to F21 on a machine. The upgrade worked quite well. Due to the nVidia driver changes, I installed the nVidia driver from nVidia instead of the normal rpmfusion as the 340 driver was not available. Today I decided to give the latest Nouveau driver a try but knowing that the nVidia install can and will change files, I decided to check my machine with rpm -Va > rpm_verify.txt To my shock, many files came back with S.?...... for the verification response. When I say many, the line count is 705 files. I did rebuild the database after the upgrade but there seems to be some issue. I have been going through the packages that I can and doing yum reinstall to clean them up. The machine is running well so I am not sure where the issue is coming from. Should I be submitting a bug report? Under what package? I will only be going back to the nVidia driver if I cannot get Steam working. Robin

what is the process number of a "running application" ?

Hi, I would like to know the process number of an application that actually is running (Netbeans in my case), with the purpose to kill it (when is froze). But am am not able to know this process number.. - In the window of gnome-system-monitor the name "netbeans" isn't. - The command line : "ps aux | grep netbeans", give me a full page of references.. Could I know a simple way to have this information ? Thank you Regards Angelo

Blocking POODLE

SSLLabs reports a couple of servers of mine have SSL v3 enabled and are vulnerable to POODLE. I followed instructions for Apache httpd at https://scotthelme.co.uk/sslv3-goes-to-the-dogs-poodle-kills-off-protocol/, but that does not seem to cure the problem. SSLLabs still reports the servers as vulnerable. Does anyone know what I'm missing? The server also runs Trac and Subversion servers and a separate vhost runs Jenkins. Does something special need to be done for those services? (These are, in fact, RHEL 7 servers running httpd-2.2.15-39.el6.x86_64, but I hope someone here will know what's going on.) fedora 20 to 21

Hello, I wish to update a fedora 20 installation to 21 by using a DVD. Is it possible? Actually, I burn a DVD bootable server fedora 21, but I did not find the option update. When I go to installation then System, I can select my hard drive and manually partitioning I can see the installed system (/ /boot and swap) I can install fedora 21 but not on the same partition (I can reuse /boot) I have to install it on a new / I cannot have a mounting point / on the old fedora / This seems to indicate that I cannot upgrade from this DVD. How do you update a fedora 20 without network? Fedora 20 I have a User Directory named "kitty" I want to change all the directories. files to the owner kitty . There are some other owners of files that I want to change to kitty. chown -R kitty kitty:kitty Is this Correct ?

kded issue

Hi all, I have a laptop with Fedora 20 (IIRC I had F19 and upgraded like 6 or 7 months ago to F20) and everything was working great til a few weeks ago. The problem is that every now and then, when I try to sent the laptop to sleep, by closing the top or pressing Fn+F4, it doesn't full finish the sleep process. Let me explain this last thing: It takes some time for the laptop to sleep, and when you open the top and press any key it wakes up but the screen isn't blocked and kded is draining the CPU (I mean kded is hanged). This means that most kde applications won't work (NM won't authenticate, for example) The only way to get back is to kill -9 kded (yes, kill -15 doesn't kill it), and start it again. I'm going to install debugging symbols now so that next time I can gdb on the process. not able of booting into rescue mode

Hi, I'm not able of booting fedora 20 into rescue mode. In the manuals is wrote: Once you have booted, using one of the described methods, (booting from a boot CD-ROM or DVD, ..., ...) add the keyword rescue as a kernel parameter. For example, for an x86 system, type the following command at the installation boot prompt: linux rescue etc ............... *but I can not see any prompt* where I can type that command. When I boot from my disk of installation (fedora live 20) I get (only) the following menu: - start fedora live in basic graphic mode; - test this media and start fedora live - run a boot memory test - boot from local drive - return to main menu ( I opt for the first option (of course) and so by the installation of the OS) nothing to do with a recovery procedure ..... I have a smart TV (Sony Bravia) and can use Android Cast Screen from my phone or tablet to see content. Apparently it also works with the Apple equivalent. Is there a way to do this from my F21 desktop? poc
