How to configure the firewall for VPN PPP connections?

Dear All, How should one configure the firewall in order to be able to connect from my machine (Fedora 21) to another machine (MS Windows) via VPN PPP? Perhaps, after some updates, the possibility of establishing such a VPN PPP has become blocked by the firewall. Thanks in advance, Paul

cpio failing during update

Hi, While updating today, cpio failed on me randomly, twice! I see errors like this: Scriptlet output: 1 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/doc/ffmpeg/COPYING.LGPLv3;54d881f2: cpio: open 2 error: ffmpeg-2.4.6-2.fc21.x86_64: install failed Scriptlet output: 1 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/src/kernels/3.18.5-201.fc21.x86_64/arch/arm/mach-mv78xx0/Kconfig;54d8814e: cpio: open 2 error: kernel-devel-3.18.5-201.fc21.x86_64: install failed When I tried updating those two packages again, they succeeded. I am wondering if there is a problem that needs fixing, or is this just chance. Thanks for any thoughts, -- Suvayu Open source is the future. It sets us free.

Impossible to add a remote printer

I was able to print from any remote computer in F20, now when I try to print I get socket not connected.I deleted and re-installed remote printer but when I try to print a test page it says that printer is not connected. What is the process that deletes contents of /tmp? Is it the shutdown scripts or the scripts started by systemd?

Fedora 21 Workstation - Agere ET-131x network card not working

Hi folks, I installed fedora 21 workstation but the Agere ET-131x network card doesn't work. Is it possible to get the network card working on Fedora 21? I installed Debian 7.8 which supports that hardware. Then I ran lsmod, which showed the following: lsmod | grep et131 ... et131x 32003 0 libphy 18521 1 et131x Perhaps this information is helpful to give me some instructions about how to get the network card working on Fedora 21. Disabling the UPS alarm using Linux

I know this has always been hard/impossible to do but I thought I would ask in case this had finally been resolved. I tried using upscmd but it can't find the APC UPS (USB). The man page and other documentation is pretty bad. I already use apcupsd to monitor my various UPS units so I tried using the apctest program. All it can do is perform the alarm test function. Everything else comes back with a message saying it can't do whatever it is I want to do. Any pointers appreciated. Yes, I realize I could find a blows box somewhere, load the Powerchute program, and disable the alarm that way. Jim Lewis

Overriding EFI frame buffer resolution

What's the proper method to force a specific resolution in EFI? I've tried the following kernel options (and in combination) without success: nomodeset video=640x480x32 video=efifb:640x480x32 video=efifb:800x600x32 vga=769 vga=785 vga=786 Long story short: I need the console resolution to get down to 80x25 for a legacy app. Thanks, Michael

mtp devices

When I connect my phone via usb, gnome (or more exactly, mate) pops up a window which displays 2 icons named: internal storage sd card however, mount command does not show them mounted. I want to browse them via the terminal cli interface. How do I force mate or gnome to mount them the traditional way? When I click on internal storage icon, the pathname in the gui is displayed as mtp://[usb:002,005]/Internal%20storage and sd card is displayed as mtp://[usb:002,005]/SD%20Card Thanx for any info on how to achieve what I want to do.

atlas 3.10.1-18 update of Fedora 21 for x86_64

When I ran yum update today I received: error: %preun(atlas-devel-3.10.1-16.fc21.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status 2 Error in PRERUN scriptlet in rpm package atlas-devel-3.10.16-fc21.x86_64 when atlas was updated. It looks like the newer version of atlas is installed. $ rpm -qa | grep atlas atlas-3.10.1-18.fc21.x86_64 atlas-devel-3.10.1-18.fc21.x86_64 Should I be concerned? Pete
