Network Manager vpnc

Work recently switched to a Palo Alto GlobalProtect based VPN, which works with vpnc. I am able to connect to it fine if I just configure the settings under "Identity" in NetworkManager using NetworkManager-vpnc. However, this sends all my traffic over the VPN, so it's not ideal. I should be able to customize the settings under "IPv4" to do split routing, and I even have instructions for doing so under Ubuntu, but whenever I change anything under "IPv4" the VPN fails to connect. I'm at a loss as to how to get any better debugging info to see why that is. Is there some trick to getting this working that I am missing? Thanks Mike

What's going on with net.ipv4.conf.???.rp_filter ?

Hi. With previous kernel 3.18.5-101.fc20.x86_64 sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.${interface}.rp_filter=0 was enough to run iptv. With kernel 3.18.6-100.fc20.x86_64 sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter=0 is needed to get it run. It is not the first time to observe this. Does anyone have some clue about this? BR, Bob

swapping

Hello, I guess that the permanent swapping is not due to setroubleshooter but ma Go of RAM and teh swapping is just increasing permanently reaching 5Go (20 firefox processes are running requiring 5% of Mem each) How can I trouble shoot this permanent issue on this computer? journalctl --follow

Is journalctl in the tail -f mode called "follow" supposed to be realtime? I'm seeing it more or less output log lines in realtime for many hours and then eventually it falls behind with half an hour or one hour delay. The (simplified) lines are from a perl sshd tracker are: open( LOG, "journalctl -o short-precise -u sshd --follow |"); while (<LOG>) { ... } I suppose, it is possible that the delay is in perl, but journalctl seems more likely to be the culprit, hence the subject line. -wolfgang

FC21 intermittently booting up to black/blank screen

Hello, Subsequent to a fedup from FC20 to FC21, I've been having bootup issues which I believe are VGA driver related. Every now and then I start my computer and it boots up to a blank screen and hangs. When I move the mouse, an X-shaped cursor appears. The latter does move with the mouse. Once I hit reset, it boots up normally each time. My vga card is an nvidia Geforce 210 ( Asus en210 ) 1GB. I started off by manually installing the nvidia proprietary, with no change, and then moved to akmod-nvidia-304xx. The issue remained. I am now using the akmod-nvidia-340xx and still have the same problem. It seems to me I had this problem for a little while under FC20 when it was released. Please note, I am not an expert. I tend to be an "install it and use it" type of user. I'm looking for input on how to troubleshoot this issue - logs, etc... also...am I the only one experiencing this?

Unknown Metadata Type from Yumex

WARNING: Unknown metadata type (group_gz) for <b>fedora</b> I'm getting the above message on a number of repositories, where there are a couple of different values between the brackets, when Yumex downloaded the metadata this morning as part of it checking for available updates. What does it mean and how do I rectify it? Also, after downloading the metadata and applying the only update available, which was an update I was expecting (it was the kmod-nvidia update for the new kernel), yumex downloaded all the metadata again and produced the same messages. Is the above messages the reason why Yumex did the double metadata download?

many journalctl processes at once on F20

Hi all! I've got an old netbook sitting here, running F20, performing a dedicated function, where nobody ever logs into it (except me, once in a long while). I've noticed lately that it seems AWFULLY slow (even for the slow computer that it normally is). Last night I logged in to see if I could see what's going on, and I fund a load average around 17-20, ten instances of journalctl running, and over a gig of swap space in use. Uptime, as of that moment was around six days. In the output of top I didn't see anything particularly startling in memory usage other than the gig of swap. I did a "yum update", and rebooted this morning to pick up the new kernel, libs, etc. and now it has no instances of journalctl running and zero swap usage. I'm puzzled as to why or how it got all those journalctl processes running, as I thought it was a commandline app for viewing lots, and not something the system would be running on its own. Yum update Vbox -

This does not seem much of a problem but I am curious as to why I'm having this? It seems waiting a while for the kernel to update will eventually fix things but do I somehow have the wrong version of virtualbox installed? Everyone: When is the last time anyone got any updates? Since packagekit quit working for me (and yes, I have a bug on file), I've been using "yum -y update" every day. For two days straight, it's done nothing: "No packages marked for update." Now is that true? Or am I getting yet another false negative? Temlakos

Mate desktop sharing

Hello, few years ago I used the Fedora desktop sharing options, but it was on some F14 version. Now, on 21, I can not find the option in Mate panels. I have vnc server installed, but I don't have the sharing option in System menu. I found this article: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/47085/cant-find-remote-desktop-pr… but it does not help in my case. Can someone tell which packet should be installed? Adobe not providing linux flash updates

www.cnn.com is telling me that my version of flash-player is out of date with security risks so it won't display any video news. Go and update your flash player. On this F21 system I am using: adobe-linux-x86_64.repo which has in it: baseurl=http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/x86_64/ yum.log shows: Jan 19 18:08:31 Updated: flash-plugin-11.2.202.429-release.x86_64 Jan 26 08:51:24 Updated: flash-plugin-11.2.202.440-release.x86_64 So supposedly I am current to Jan 26. But cnn is not a happy camper. There have been a couple other sites complaining as well. Even one that said my version of Firefox was out of date, but that was only a warning.

Network-based install unreliable?

Since Red Hat 4.2, I have frequently performed network-based installs of Red Hat/Fedora. Some time around Fedora 16, installing over the network became somewhat unreliable. It seems like some days it just won't work. Generally there is some package that cannot be found or something to that effect. I have always assumed that problems with network installs occur because of inconsistencies across Fedora's mirrors. Today, I had trouble until I changed the source URL to http://dl.fedoraproject.org/... and avoided mirrorlists. I have had this trouble on two university campuses and also from home. The stange thing is that I do not see too many complaints from anyone else. Has anyone else had trouble with this? I would much prefer using the mirror system than hitting dl.fedoraproject.org directly. -- Mike :wq

F21, authconfig-tui, system is unusable

Hi all, I just ran authconfig-tui to configure my F21 system for kerberos and ldap. When I reboot, Fedora gives me the firstboot screen EVERY TIME now. Prior to running authconfig-tui, my system was working fine, and had been for weeks. If i attempt to setup a new account, it hangs indefinetly. If i allow it to join my AD domain, it hangs indefinetly. Point: I just setup my machine to join the local kerberos realm and ldap directory. Now it's unusable. Why the hell would I now want to join my AD realm? And why is it even hanging? I could debug this, and open bugs, but history has shown that any bug "too hard" won't even be looked at. Do the developers of Linux actually use linux for anything other than to try and clone OS X, poorly? </rant> - Dan

For the past several days, it seems google chrome linux repo is unreachable? Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'google-chrome' from 'http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64': Yum repo downloading error: Downloading error(s): repodata/filelists.xml.gz - Cannot download, all mirrors were already tried without success, disabling. Touchpad second button not working in new Fedora 21 install.

Hello all, I've just installed Fedora 21 from the live desktop image to my laptop; an Acer Aspire E15. I did a DNF update immediately after installing. For some reason I cannot use the second touchpad button to right click at all. I'm using GNOME as my desktop. Everything else is working fine except this. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most appreciative. If you need the outputs of any commands then I'm fine with doing that. thanks in advance, Ananda Samaddar

rescue kernel

Hello, I tried to generate a new rescue kernel. I did: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/51-dracut-rescue-postinst.sh $(uname -r) /boot/vmlinuz-$(uname -r) I did not get any thing done. Thus I checked the file: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/51-dracut-rescue-postinst.sh and commented the line: [[ -f $INITRDFILE ]] && [[ -f $NEW_KERNEL_IMAGE ]] && exit 0 There is already and lod rescue kernel thus it does not generate a new one! Is it normal? Hello, In fedora20: I get dracut failed to create symbolic link /dev/resume and then cannot fing VolSysUsr0 and I cannot boot I do not know if these 2 issues are correlated. Any this what I did: I cloned /boot and / and a new disk and I removed the old disk /boot is on an ext4 partition, / is on an lvm partition: now /dev/mapper/VolSysUsr2-root (before on /dev/mapper/VolSysUsr0-root) clone has been done with cp -a (It sued to work). I modified properly /boot/grub2/grub.cfg and the new /etc/fstab I also try tu run in selinux=0 It looks like that it need to find the old lvm volume /dev/mapper/VolSysUsr0 during the boot but cannot find it of course. VolSysUsr2-root is found (the other lvm volumes are inactive) The UUID are correct How can I fix this issue? Thank for your help. shutdown doesn't shut down

Hi, on several machines, I am observing that # shutdown now doesn't shutdown and halt/power off. Instead, these machines shutdown and immediately reboot. Any ideas? Ralf PS.: I am only observing this issue on UEFI machines. My BIOS-machines all shutdown/halt/poweroff.

Has anyone installed an HL-L2340DW printer? If so I am curious to know what driver you used? I prefer installing via CUPS but find no driver in the HL2300 series. Brother apparently has none that I can find. It prints from our wireless LAN using the CUPS driver for the HL-2170W but I am not certain that is the best choice. Installing gnuchess/xboard messes up menu fonts in xmms

Note: This is an extremely low priority item. I first noticed this all the way back in Fedora 14. Here are the steps to reproduce: - Install xmms and its related files. - Run it and open the pulldown menu. The fonts will look fine. Close xmms. - Now install gnuchess/xboard (yum -y install gnuchess xboard) - (This step may be optional) Play a game. - Run xmms again and open the menu. The fonts are now little boxes. Is this a bug or have I been doing something wrong all this time? I realize that xmms is from Fusion, is that the problem? I can fix it by running "yum -y install xorg-x11-font*". I really did not expect this issue to still be around after all this time. Note that I tried to find some info on the net about this first but didn't come across anything relevant. Jim Lewis

I've just replaced a Netgear WNR1000v3 router with an AC1900 R7000. The install went without a hitch, and wireless communication with another system (running Fedora 21) works fine. However, I can't connect with a system running Fedora 19: ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer The F19 system connects to the internet (through said router) works fine, as does a ping between the two systems. hosts.allow and hosts.deny are both empty. Any suggestions as to what I've missed? Thanks.

Gnome-3 workspace moves

In F20, I used to be able to right click the title bar of a window, and select which workspace I wanted to move it to. Now in F21 all I get is the option to "Move to Workspace Down" or "Move to Workspace Up". This is a big loss when I have 12 named workspaces. rpm -V - verifying packages

Hello, I don't know if I found a bug with upgrade or if there is a strange issue with rpm. I have upgraded from F19 to F21 on a machine. The upgrade worked quite well. Due to the nVidia driver changes, I installed the nVidia driver from nVidia instead of the normal rpmfusion as the 340 driver was not available. Today I decided to give the latest Nouveau driver a try but knowing that the nVidia install can and will change files, I decided to check my machine with rpm -Va > rpm_verify.txt To my shock, many files came back with S.?...... for the verification response. When I say many, the line count is 705 files. I did rebuild the database after the upgrade but there seems to be some issue. I have been going through the packages that I can and doing yum reinstall to clean them up. The machine is running well so I am not sure where the issue is coming from. Should I be submitting a bug report? Under what package? I will only be going back to the nVidia driver if I cannot get Steam working. Robin

Blocking POODLE

SSLLabs reports a couple of servers of mine have SSL v3 enabled and are vulnerable to POODLE. I followed instructions for Apache httpd at https://scotthelme.co.uk/sslv3-goes-to-the-dogs-poodle-kills-off-protocol/, but that does not seem to cure the problem. SSLLabs still reports the servers as vulnerable. Does anyone know what I'm missing? The server also runs Trac and Subversion servers and a separate vhost runs Jenkins. Does something special need to be done for those services? (These are, in fact, RHEL 7 servers running httpd-2.2.15-39.el6.x86_64, but I hope someone here will know what's going on.) Hi, I have Fedora 21 (x86_64). Under /usr/lib/modules/3.17.4-302.fc21.x86_64/kernel, all the kernel module are in compressed form. (xz files). Under /usr/lib/modules/3.17.4-302.fc21.x86_64/kernel, the kernel modules are in the *.ko form What are the *.xz compressed kernel modules for ? In fedora 20 we had only *.ko files under /lib/modules. It seems to me that after booting, when running modprobe, only the *.ko modules are used. Just wonder what would happen If I would (accidentally or by purpose) delete the /lib/modules folder in fedora 21 (I don't intend to do it before getting an answer here...) Regards, Kevin

Tried: # wipefs -a /dev/md127 which did not word, so I next tried: # wipefs -f -a /dev/md127 /dev/md127: 6 bytes were erased at offset 0x00000000 (crypto_LUKS): 4c 55 4b 53 ba be and then # mdadm -S /dev/md127 mdadm: Cannot get exclusive access to /dev/md127:Perhaps a running process, mounted filesystem or active volume group? but the filesystem is still mounted. curious, that creating an encrypted raid system on fedora seems to be an irreversible action. Now, with part of the raid file system "wipefs"-ed, above, I fear rebooting and hanging when it does not come up. Richard

Adding a file share service to Thunderbird

Often I want to attach a file that is larger than what google will allow, a limit I configured in TB. And TB will prompt me to use a file share service. The problem is I do not want to use the 2 file share services that TB is showing, and none of the add-on have my preferred file share server. Has anyone somehow overcome this "apparent" limitation of TB, and configured TB to use a file share service other than what TB and the plugins (add-ons) provide?

DHCP Reservations

Hello all, Quick question about DHCP reservations: I have laptops with both wired and wireless NICs, is it okay to have the router assign the same IP to both interface? I am assuming it will let me do that. I will not, and do not ever, have both interfaces active at the same time. In order to make this post at least somewhat relevant to Fedora I am currently running three of them in my home office. I keep thinking that I am missing something, possibly obvious, as to why I shouldn't do this. I have my new Netgear R6200v2 working perfectly and I don't want to do anything to piss it off. Hello, I wish to update a fedora 20 installation to 21 by using a DVD. Is it possible? Actually, I burn a DVD bootable server fedora 21, but I did not find the option update. When I go to installation then System, I can select my hard drive and manually partitioning I can see the installed system (/ /boot and swap) I can install fedora 21 but not on the same partition (I can reuse /boot) I have to install it on a new / I cannot have a mounting point / on the old fedora / This seems to indicate that I cannot upgrade from this DVD. How do you update a fedora 20 without network? kded issue

Hi all, I have a laptop with Fedora 20 (IIRC I had F19 and upgraded like 6 or 7 months ago to F20) and everything was working great til a few weeks ago. The problem is that every now and then, when I try to sent the laptop to sleep, by closing the top or pressing Fn+F4, it doesn't full finish the sleep process. Let me explain this last thing: It takes some time for the laptop to sleep, and when you open the top and press any key it wakes up but the screen isn't blocked and kded is draining the CPU (I mean kded is hanged). This means that most kde applications won't work (NM won't authenticate, for example) The only way to get back is to kill -9 kded (yes, kill -15 doesn't kill it), and start it again. I'm going to install debugging symbols now so that next time I can gdb on the process. Hi, I'm not able of booting fedora 20 into rescue mode. In the manuals is wrote: Once you have booted, using one of the described methods, (booting from a boot CD-ROM or DVD, ..., ...) add the keyword rescue as a kernel parameter. For example, for an x86 system, type the following command at the installation boot prompt: linux rescue etc ............... *but I can not see any prompt* where I can type that command. When I boot from my disk of installation (fedora live 20) I get (only) the following menu: - start fedora live in basic graphic mode; - test this media and start fedora live - run a boot memory test - boot from local drive - return to main menu ( I opt for the first option (of course) and so by the installation of the OS) nothing to do with a recovery procedure ..... I've got a two disk raid and I want to it and convert the disks to some non-raid usage. The raid was never used and has no data. Also, the raid disks are encrypted along with the rest of the disk in the machine. Googling about this there are a number of folks hitting this problem over a number of fedora releases. Sadly, I could not find any fix. Old Kernel Modules Directories not Cleaned up

Hi, DNF is currently configured to keep 3 kernel versions, consequently when I exceed that number of kernels it automatically uninstalls the oldest kernel, which I don't have any issues with, but what I do have an issue with is when these uninstalls are done it does not clean up the /lib/modules directories, they are left lying around. I had to delete a dozen of these directories this morning manually, why are these not removed when the associated kernels are removed? I didn't check what was in these directories, but I do have the nvidia and virtualbox kernel drivers installed as well, is it possible the removal of these when the associated kernel is removed is not cleaning up properly? regards, Steve

I finally let the boot sequence error out, took about 5 minutes. I got this line: Dracut-initqueue[283] Warning: Cancelling resume operation. device not found. then the next line showed the UUID, ending in c063. That was the OLD swap partition. I rebuilt the swap partition, did the swapon, and added that UUID to /etc/fstab. Still errored out with same error. I removed the 3.18.3-201 kernel & headers & module, reinstalled them, and now it works. where is that old swap info kept, if not in /etc/fstab?? For a while (like a few weeks), mate was saving the apps running on the DT when I shutdown the system, and they would be auto started on reboot. Slowly, some apps no longer get started. This behavior first manifested 2 or 3 months ago when the mate-terminals would no longer be started on reboot. Then it was ktorrent. Now, added to that is smplayer. I had raised a bug with mate, but the bug report was rejected. I am on the verge of dumping Mate altogether. Cinnamon is just not mature enough, and I literally detest gnome3. It does nothing that I want or like. Hope that future fedora users who want to switch to mate might see this and decide if they still want to run mate.

See our troubleshooting entry for more information. when I try to install some gnome extensions (https://extensions.gnome.org/) What is missing? kernel-debug-devel?

Random curiosity here: Why (on fedora 21) does the kernel-debug-devel rpm want to be installed? If I do a yum erase of it, it goes away without removing any dependencies at all, yet if I do a yum update after that, it wants to reinstall it again despite the fact that nothing depends on it :-).

DRM MM Objects?

Just upgraded a box at home to new hardware with embedded Intel graphics (i5 Haswell), did a clean install of Fedora 21, and while poking around trying to fix a few issues while rebuilding my config spotted something I've not noticed before. With KDE running "lsof" lists over a thousand entries like this: Xorg.bin 659 662 root DEL REG 0,4 16016 /drm mm object Xorg.bin 659 662 root DEL REG 0,4 16011 /drm mm object kwin 964 zocalo DEL REG 0,4 38725 /drm mm object kwin 964 zocalo DEL REG 0,4 19275 /drm mm object QProcessM 964 986 zocalo DEL REG 0,4 19277 /drm mm object QProcessM 964 986 zocalo DEL REG 0,4 47240 /drm mm object These are the only three processes that appear to own these files, and the number of entries appears to fluctuate as windows are opened/closed, and other GUI events happen. A Google search comes up with a bunch of stuff about memory leaks from a few years ago, plus some documention on Kernel memory management, but I couldn't find anything that explains what these "/drm mm object" entries are, whether this is normal behaviour, or if there is potentially a problem.
