cpu at 99% by firefox

Certain web sites raise my cpu utilization to 99%.
The 2 websites that I visit very frequently are youtube and ebay.
I end up having to kill all the ebay and youtube tabs
in order to regain some response for other interactive processes,
and bring cpu utilization down to about 2 to 4 %.
So, why would these sites rob me of so much cpu computing power?
How are they doing it? They even end up consuming network bandwidth,
so much so, that other FF connections become extremely sluggish.
The internet connection I connect to normally provides 6-MBites/s
download speeds.
When FF eats 99% of cpu, in most cases, I am not even playing
any youtube videos.

strange behavior of external esatausb ports on a Dell laptop

On a Dell E6510 laptop, there are 4 ports: 3 USB, and 1 eSata.
The ports on the left side of the laptop are USB and eSata.
Both of these ports start losing voltage after some time of
operation, say ....1 hours to 5 hours.
I say lose voltage, because I actually hooked up a 5volt DC
tiny fan to the usb port (no HD connected to eSata port beneath it.
After about 90 minutes, the fan slowed down.
I unplugged it and connected it to the usb port on the right side
of the laptop and it imnediately resumed it's normal rpm and stayed there
until shutdown several hours later.
P.S: The voltage drop occurs on both ports on the left. The
eSata port also functions as a usb port, and the fan slowed down
on it as well.
Connecting a sata dist to the eSata port leads to the disk disappearing
from /dev when the voltage drops.
Power management is not enabled as laptop is always on AC.
Screensaver's power management is configured to never turn off monitor,
nor disks
nor suspend system ...etc.
So, what might be causing the voltage drop, and how can I prevent it
from happening?
What data do I need to gather?

Fedora 22: unable to send mail

Hi,
Been googling this a bit without find a solution.
I installed Fedora 22 on my laptop, and I find that I can recieve mail
in Evolution, but not send. Only thing that happens is that the
sending process times out.
I tried with my perosnal mail server, and - to check with a server
that absolutely *should* work - my Gmail account. Both times out.
Sending mail from both webmail accounts (on the servers) works as expected.
Any ideas?

Can't install XEN guest on Fedora 22

we have a system (Sun Fire V40z) here were we can only do
Para-Virtualisation using Xen because the CPU does not have
Virtualization Support. With CentOS 6.6 everythink worked fine. We
decided to reinstall the system with Fedora Server 22 because we needed
some more up to date packages.
Now we are stuck with Xen. If we try to create a guest using
Virt-Manager we get this error:

Mapping firewalld services to ports and protocols

Over on the Samba list, I am trying to figure out what firewalld
services I need opened for all the things that a Samba AD does. I could
'simply' take the list of iptables entries others have used and add
those ports, but I really WANT to learn about firewalld and what its

Services
A service can be a list of local ports and destinations and additionally
also a list of firewall helper modules automatically loaded if a service
is enabled. The use of predefined services makes it easier for the user
to enable and disable access to a service. Service configuration options
and generic file information are described in the firewalld.service(5)
man page.
And that manpage does not tell me what the services are and what they
map to. It is easy to learn the list of supported services:

Could not to load from liveUSB: can't allocate kernel - Why is that?

Hi all!
I have installed Fedora 20 on my laptop and everything worked. But now
i can not to load - after selection item in the grub menu appear error
"can't allocate kernel".
Also problem if to try to boot from Fedora-Live-KDE-x86_64-22-3.iso
after selection "Test this media & Install ..." or "Install Fedora.."
In the same time on another laptop of my colleague (that same as my)
everything is ok.
Tried with Enable/Disable Secure Boot in BIOS.
Can someone tell where to look and what's the problem?

Unable to mount root filesystem, kicks me into emergency shell

Something happened recently in an update that’s rendered my system unbootable - am currently booted into an old (4.0.4) kernel after messing around with the boot parameters (specifically setting ROOT=/dev/sda7 and removing rhgb and other things).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be?

F22: how to mount AFS directory?

Does anyone know how to mount an AFS filesystem (I think it is called an Andrews' Filesystem) on Fedora 22?
I looked around on the web, but did not come up with anything that worked so I thought that I would ask for some advice.

is there an explanation of the various fedora DL URLs and what they correspond to?

once again regarding docker (but really a more general query), i'm
trying to clarify the various sources of fedora packages WRT which
release/update/testing/rawhide version they correspond to.
for example, i'm assuming that the following URL is the absolutely
top level of all possible packages for fedora in all its
current incarnations:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/
is that a fair statement? so i just want to clarify the subdirectories
there. first, i'm assuming that:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/
represents the contents as they were distributed at the time of
official release, yes?
next, i'm guessing that "updates/":
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/
represents only *normal* package updates for each official release, so
that ".../updates/22/" are package updates for f22, etc. i also see
".../updates/23"; i assume those would be updates for the current f23
release and test candidates, is that right?
then there's the "updates/testing" stuff for each release:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/updates/testing/
representing additional available packages if i choose to enable the
"updates-testing" repo.
and, finally, there's rawhide:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/development/rawhide/
if i want to live dangerously.
the reason i'm asking this is that i'm trying to collect a list of
docker-related fedora packages with a brief explanation of what
they're for, and i ran into the following quirk(?).
currently on my "updates-testing"-updated f22 system, i have an
installed package named "docker-selinux". but when i went digging
through the fedora package db looking for docker-related stuff:

that package is not listed there anywhere. it appears in rawhide, and
in f23 updates-testing, so why is there no mention of it in the
package db?
is all this written down somewhere? thanks.
