cut & paste to virtual machine in x2go session?
by Tom Horsley
Obscure question here:
If I start a virtual machine on my desktop at home, I can
"cut" stuff from other windows on my desktop and "paste"
it into windows inside the virtual machine display in
virt-viewer.
If I access that same desktop system remotely via an
x2go session, then doing a "cut" in some app in the
remote desktop will not "paste" into a virt-viewer
running inside that same remote desktop.
I'm wondering why this doesn't work.
I'm trying to figure out if I have something mis-configured
or if maybe x2go doesn't support some required
protocol or where the problem might be.
I don't suppose anyone just happens to know the answer
to this obscure question?

Reverting to nouveau
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Due to ongoing problems with non-functioning hibernation (or rather
resuming) I decided to reduce the number of variables by removing the
proprietary Nvidia drivers. I did the following:
- Removed all Nvidia-related rpms (i.e. everything with Nvidia in the
name, i.e.:
kmod-nvidia-340xx-4.7.5-200.fc24.x86_64-340.96-3.fc24.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-libs-340.96-2.fc24.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-340.96-2.fc24.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-340xx-4.7.3-200.fc24.x86_64-340.96-3.fc24.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-kmodsrc-340.96-2.fc24.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-libs-340.96-2.fc24.i686
akmod-nvidia-340xx-340.96-3.fc24.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-340xx-4.7.4-200.fc24.x86_64-340.96-3.fc24.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-340xx-4.7.2-201.fc24.x86_64-340.96-3.fc24.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-kmodsrc-367.44-1.fc24.x86_64
- Deleted /etc/X11/*nvidia*
- Deleted the Nvidia blacklist file from /etc/modprobe.d
- Rebooted
I now have a VGA system (640x480). The Nouveau module is not loading at
boot. xrandr says "Failed to get size of gamma for output default".
So, two questions:
a) What am I forgetting?
b) Why is switching video drivers so fscking difficult?

Taking a screenshot in GNOME desktop during a pulldown menu is open.
How to?
by Joachim Backes
Hi all,
having a problem: I need to take a screenshot on the gnome desktop (no
wayland!)with alt+print or shift+print keys, during some pulldown menu
of some window is opened, but nothing happens. How can I achive this?
The pulldown menu should be included in the screenshot. The screenshot
is performed flawlessly if the pulldown menu is closed.
It seems that this is a X11 problem.
All comments are welcome.
Kind regards
Joachim Backes

konsole
by Walter Cazzola
Dear all,
I'm using fedora 23 on my laptop and I was used to have always open two
konsole instances side by side each with different tabs and geometry
from working session to another.
But since the last update to konsole/KDE the two instances are not
saved/reopened correctly. At login I get two konsole instances with the
same geometry, in a different position and no tabs at all.
So now I have to restart them manually but:
- the flag --geometry has been removed so I can't call konsole with
the desired geometry
- the flag --tabs-from-file opens one extra tab (I've 14 tabs stored
but it opens 15 tabs instead)
Apart that it is a waste of time to manually restore the session work I
can't get it correct.
At the moment I'm using:
>rpm -qa | grep konsole
konsole5-16.08.1-2.fc23.x86_64
konsole-part-4.14.3-10.fc23.x86_64
konsole5-part-16.08.1-2.fc23.x86_64
and plasma 5.7.5
Is that possible to restore the old behavior and save/reopen my session
correctly?
Thank you in advance for any help

What Does Gnome-looks.org Look for to Find Gnome?
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
Does anyone know what Gnome-looks.org looks for the determine that
Gnome is installed? When I go to Gnome-looks.org it tells me it cannot
find Gnome on my system therefore not all of its functionality will
work. Is there something that I need installed for Gnome the would
enable Gnome-looks.org to know that Gnome is installed and when I am
accessing the site I'm accessing it from Gnome?

How do I Install a Theme Into GDM
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
I have downloaded several themes from Gnome-looks.org for GDM, but
I can't find any documentation on the net for installing the theme (not
just the background picture) that actually works for F24. I've found
lots of documentation for updating the default background, but none of
that documentation is valid on my system as either the specified picture
file doesn't exist in the directory specified or the specified directory
doesn't exist. The files I've downloaded are tar.gz files which
Gnome-tweak won't accept as being Gnome-shell theme files (I've found
lots of doco on the net when searching for updating GDM themes that talk
about configuring Gnome Shell).
Does anyone have any ideas on where I need to put the extracted
directories and how I tell GDM which of those themes to use?

Steve

LibreOffice and A4
by Tom Horsley
Grrr... Aargh... The 2 or 3 times a year I have to use
a word processor, I spend infinitely more time fighting
with the A4 default in LibreOffice than I do actually
composing the document.
Anyone know of any tool anywhere that will go through
a LibreOffice installation and consistently replace
A4 with Letter everywhere in all preferences, templates, etc?
The same question for English (UK) dictionary
versus English (USA) dictionary for spell checking.
Some sort of site preferences tool would be really
useful (especially if it could automagically set
site preferences using geolocation :-).
