Scriptlet errors during manual installation of Fedora 23

Hi, Because Anaconda doesn't support my usual partitioning scheme (root on Btrfs in LVM in LUKS in LVM in GPT, /boot on Btrfs, etc.), I created the entire layout manually and tried to install Fedora using dnf. The same layout works perfectly fine in ArchLinux. I basically followed this howto, with adjustments for s/yum/dnf/ and for EFI/GPT: http://dustymabe.com/2014/05/29/manual-linux-installs-with-funky-storage-co… The initial filesystem installation (dnf install -y --releasever=23 --installroot=/mnt/sysimage filesystem) already got a few glitches of this form: Non-fatal POSTIN scriptlet failure in rpm package filesystem This^^^ happened to roughly half of the installed packages. I tried to proceed with the rest (i.e., to install @core @standard kernel grub2 grub2-efi sihm grub2-tools), but it failed with scriptlet errors that prevented a few key packages from getting installed at all: error: %prein(selinux-policy-targeted-3.13.1-157.fc23.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 126 Error in PREIN scriptlet in rpm package selinux-policy-targeted Packages with those errors are reported as failed after the verify step. What I tried next: * setenforce 0 * upgrading the installation environment and/or the sysimage with dnf and rpm from rawhide * --releasever=22 instead of 23 * ...and checking for a few other common points with this bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1270663 * a plain sysimage directory with no predefined Btrfs subvolumes in it * unmounting, remounting, checking that everything has seclabel on, no weirdness in dmesg, etc. Well, nothing of the above helped; the error is still the same. How can I diagnose this? Where can I dig out the exact reason why the scriptlets are failing? Provided that Anaconda actually does some steps that I'm missing and can carry out the installation correctly, is there a way to *force* it to just accept whatever is mounted into /mnt/sysimage at the moment, without trying to make sense of it? I'm pretty sure dracut can handle my partition layout just fine, so the entire issue here is about getting the basic installation done somehow. Theoretically I could create a simple-and-stupid layout that Anaconda can handle, proceed with the installation and reshuffle the partitions afterwards, but that's sooo cumbersome that I thought I'd first ask whether someone knows a workaround to the scriptlet problems. Google chrome gets deadlocked on F25

ATA2:00: link is slow to respond....

Hi, my computer boot only in emergency mode ... Looking the journalctl (command journalctl -xb), I found (in thejournalctl ) these lines in red color : ATA2:00: link is slow to respond.... (and after..) ATA200: SRST failed (erro 16) That seem indicate that it is a problem to access the HDs.. I found a possible solution to the problem in this post: http://codeverge.com/opensuse.org.help.install/-solved-ata1-srst-failed-err… There is wrote that :...the problem can depend by the physic set up of the HD (as "master", "slave", "single drive", ...): this set up can be done by changing the position of a jumper on the HD... I know that, in the past time, the HDs had to be set physically in this way.., but recently I never heart anymore that the modern HD need this operation.. So actually I don't care anymore of the configuration of the HDs (my HD is Toshiba 1 TB that I bought few mounts ago). I would like to have a confirmation that what I read in the post is only an obsolete information and, in any case, I would like to know also what I can do to go around in my problem.. >From the command line: ls /dev/sd* I get: give me this input : /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb2 Thank you regards Angelo

PC locked, but one screen is showing

Hello, I have the following situation: Laptop Lenovo T540p, attached to external monitor LG, and running Fedora25 with Mate desktop. After the recent upgrade from 24 to 25, after I press the combination for screen lock, the current monitor is being locked properly (blue background with the unlock dialogue). However, the other monitor is still showing its desktop. For example: On the external monitor I have a browser window, on the laptop monitor I have a chat client. The 'active' monitor is the external one (active means showing the active application). I press the lock keyboard combination, the external monitor is locked, but the laptop screen still shows the chat client. I can not click in it, it does not refresh (showing new messages), but it's still visible. If I press ESC several times, the "not locked" screen is refreshed and shows the unlock. Is this a known issue, can someone reproduce it? Thanks in advance.

panel locks after upgrade to F25

Hello after upgrade to F25, panel locks randomly. I have KDE and plasma5. When it happens CTRL+ALT+F2 and back CTRL+ALT+F1 works for me. I wonder if I can clear something inside .config, something that is recreated fresh after logoff and login, to fix the issue or should I ask on ked mlists? Many thanx in advance -m

openshot video editor on Fedora

Is anyone else using openshot on Fedora? I installed it from rpmfusion. My son has been trying to edit a video and it just keeps crashing when doing typical actions. I've tried it on computers with F23 and F24 (I haven't upgraded any computers to F25 yet) and it does the same thing on both. I can't imagine that this is expected, so is it my computers or is it something with Fedora? The one crash I looked at in abrt appeared to involve QT. I'm wondering if anyone else has used it recently successfully either on Fedora or not.

Reading lines from 2 files in such a way that each iteration lets me read the next line from each file so that the items read from each file are in sync as far as line number is concerned. Is this "doable"? For a single file, indexing to next line is automatic, visa vis while read line; do echo $line done < some_file.txt for when more than 1 file is involved, it is not so easy ... Hypothetical (of course, non-working example): export index=1 while true do; file_A_line=`read line$index` # Read from file A file_B_line=`read line$index` # read from file B [ x$file_A_line = x -o x$file_B_line = x ] && break <do something withfile_A_line and file_B_line> index=`expr $index + 1` done So how can the reading from 2 files be accomplished and keep the index to next line in sync? I know it is a no brainer with a C program. Thanx.

How to prevent headless JVM (Fedora 25)?

I have a 3rd party app that use a Java GUI, so it won't run on a headless JVM. I had it working until I installed a different app using dnf. It overwrote my JVM with a headless one and now the Java GUI app is broken. Is there a way to install/register a non-headless JVM with Fedora so it won't keep installing the headless JVM? Thanks

OT: Flash on (Linux-Based) Samsung SmartTV

I'm trying to long-distance-coach a tech-challenged friend on using his Samsung SmartTV's web browser to view content his Cable TV service doesn't carry. (This is not trying to get around stuff without paying--the content, out of area sports, FWIW, is freely available to watch on his PC.) When he tries to access the content with the Samsung-embedded browser, he gets an immediate prompt to upgrade Flash. Following the offered links allows access to what is labeled as "Linux" rpm and/or tgz versions, neither of which will install on the TV. So, the content won't load. While I've suggest he do a general upgrade of the TV firmware, in hopes there's a usable Flash upgrade included, I'm thinking of pointing him in a different direction--say, a ChromeCast. Changing lvmcache mode

I would like to change the cache mode of an existing lvm cache volume. I see the following in the man page: `With the --cachemode option, the cache mode can be set when creating a cache LV, or changed on an existing cache LV.` However, it does not seem to work: # lvs -o cache_mode vg_raid10/lv_var CacheMode writethrough # lvconvert --cachemode writeback vg_raid10/lv_var # lvs -o cache_mode vg_raid10/lv_var CacheMode writethrough (Fedora 23, 4.8.14) The `lvconvert` command produces no output, and there is nothing in dmesg or the journal.
