Helping improve support for Thinkpad P70

Hi all, After much struggling with Fedora 23 and CentOS 7 on a new Thinkpad P70, I failed to get things working well. With all stock install/updates, using "hybrid" graphics (intel + nvidia m600m), I would get a black bar along the bottom of the screen that wouldn't display, but was there (I could type, but not see what I typed, in full screen terminals for example). If I switched to pure nvidia (discrete mode), I would get 1024x768 on the nouveau drivers. I tried the RPMfusion nvidia drivers and it would work for a short time only. First time that I suspended the laptop, I'd lose the screen for good, even after a power cycle (text mode during boot would show, but nothing when gnome started), but I could SSH into it so the system was OK. So on and so forth with Fedora, CentOS, EPEL kernel-ml, etc. I decided to try ubuntu, just to see if it was linux itself, but it appears to work out of the box. So I am pretty sure that Linux in general is OK (at least workable). It's a 4k screen on the laptop, for what it matters. My question then is this; How/what can I do, as a user, to help improve support for this machine under Fedora (and RHEL/CentOS)? Dlink DWA192 Partially Supported in Kernel?

Hi, I have just upgraded my usb wireless adapter from a Dlink DWA182 which was not supported by the kernel, which I'm told never will be supported by the kernel, to a Dlink DWA192 which appears to be natively supported by the kernel. The issue I have is that the network interface only sees the 2.4GHz ssid it doesn't see the 5GHz ssid, is this intended functionality, inadvertent or is support for the 5GHz band not implemented yet? FAQ: Participating in this mailing list

It's about time someone posted something like this, yet I can't ever recall seeing FAQs sent to this list, it may as well be me: It is much preferred that participants to mailing lists write, and reply, to messages in the manner the majority prefers, and the manner that the list instructions told you to use in the first place. You're expecting help from others, it's polite to make the effort to fit in. You will probably not get as much help, perhaps from those who have the most useful answers, if you don't. When replying, write your responses underneath what you're replying to. So that *whoever* next reads the message, can read the whole thing in order, from top to bottom, in a clear and coherent manner. Either write your responses directly under the specific bits of the message that you're responding to (interspersed posting). Or, entirely below the prior message (bottom posting), though this makes it harder for people work out what your responses are related to. i.e. To make it easier to follow a message, make it read like a conversation. And edit out any extraneous stuff from prior messages that doesn't need to be quoted. It's a waste, and makes reading the message more cumbersome. It does not matter where your mail program leaves the cursor when you hit reply, use your fingers to change it's position, and cut and erase unneeded text as you go along. HTML messages are not preferred. They cause problems, and waste far more bandwidth and storage space than simpler text-only message. Additional information. I have one machine where FF works. This is also running Fedora 23 but was installed from the live DVD rather than using PXE as were those which are failing. It has FF 42 rather than FF 44. Thus far, I've tried these remedies without success. * Downgrade FF to 42 on a failing machine. * Compare the list of packages installed on both machines and install on the failing machine any which were previously only on the working one. (In fact, the working machine has several hundred /fewer/ packages installed but had a few extra ones as well. * Per tjoen's suggestion, verified that both machines have NSS installed and configured identically. Neither is using LDAP. In all cases, FF exits with a zero status. I've run both the working and failing copies under strace and compared the output (there's a lot of output!). Certainly there are differences but nothing stands out as an indicator of the problem. There must be some way to get FF to tell me why it is failing! -- Dave Close

Does anyone have any ideas what happened to them? Any suggestions as to how I can instruct dnf to use mirrors closer to home (e.g. prefer south-east Asia over Asia-Pacific) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any ideas. Bash / Escaping quotes is driving me crazy . .

Save a VM -

I have Centos7 installed in Virtual Machine Manager on this F-23 computer. I would like to save a copy and install it in VMM on another F-23 box. My googling has not helped... error when make bzImage (compiling with patch)

Hello, after some tribulation i manage to understand how to apply a patch to a kernel, downloaded my current kernel 4.2.3 (using fedora 4.2.3-300 atm), i'm following the how to here : http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel#Building_a_Kernel_fr… section existing vanilla fedora packages but the make bzImage command failed (error in the link below) http://fpaste.org/326651/91023145/ Did i miss something like for example the kernel i downloaded is not the right one? gthumb close after removing same files

When I try to find the same file in gthumb and remove it . Gthumb will close and I get this error .
