Problems with NFS with last few weeks
by Robert McBroom
After many years of working with no problems NFS IS GIVING ME FITS.
Booting gets hung in a start job for rpcbind for fifteen to twenty
minutes before releasing the system to start.

VMM connect problem -
by Bob Goodwin
I have two Fedora-23 computers running

connects to my ethernet LAN and connects
to the internet, the second one, I've
just set up connects to the LAN but not
the internet, something is wrong with
VMM configuration.
This one, the working one shows:

I don't know what I might have done

incidentally both are installed usingthe

Any suggestion of what to do next will
be appreciated,

Laptop Printer Problem
by Jonathan Allen
Dear List,
I'm trying to connect a new laptop into an otherwise entirely Fedora
LAN. The new machine can see all the (shared, CUPS) printers, but
won't actually print anything. 'lpr' appears to complete normally,
teh job says 'completed rending' but the printer status is shown as
paused. The debugging output is below. Can anyone suggest how to
move forward?
Jonathan

Wordpress and NGINX [Slightly OT]
by Mark Haney
I hope someone can give me an idea on how to get this setup. I'm no WP
expert (never having setup it up prior to a few weeks ago), but this issue
I'd like to find a way to make work.
As I said, we have WP running on an NGINX server which is replacing an old
Joomla server. The issue has to do with the fact there were several static
PHP pages built over the years on the Joomla server that we don't want to
move manually to the WP server.
The problem is that our Marketing used a lot of these standalone .php files
in ads and such and want those urls to work by redirecting either to the
home page or to specific pages inside WP. (The latter is not a must have.)
The problem is that I can't figure out a way to have NGINX test for a
particular .php file and if it's not there, redirect to (or display) a 404
page inside wordpress. In every case, when NGINX tries to find that .php
file it throws up the NGINX 404 page.
I can build a custom 404 page, but Marketing wants to use the page inside
WP. There are several configs floating around that appear to solve the
problem, but none of them work for me. I've been told this is possible,
but I've not found the answer if its out there. Someone got any ideas?
I've attached my config file if that will help.

Creating a PostgreSQL db
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
I want to create a PostgreSQL db. So I did the following:
$ su -
# su - postgres
$ pg_ctl initdb -D /var/lib/pgsql/data
$ exit
# systemctl start postgresql
# exit
$ createdb mydb
createdb: could not connect to database template1: FATAL: role "user" does not exist
I don't understand this since /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf has these
lines:
# TYPE DATABASE USER ADDRESS METHOD
local all all trust
host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust
host all all ::1/128 trust
Shouldn't the local line take care of my permissions? What am I doing wrong?
TIA,

cursor disappear in panels
by Stefano Cislaghi
Hi all,
after installing latest updates, i have a problem with mouse cursor:
when i'm on menus and panels the cursor disappears but i'm still able
to select, launch applications and so on, only cursor disappear.
When i'm on applications or desktop cursor is visible as
usual##SELECTION_END##.
DE is Gnome, Fedora 23 fully updated and this is my graphic card:
Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (Intel HD
4400)

Starting with kernel 4.3 instead of 4.4 makes no difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Chess under Fedora-23
by Timothy Murphy
Is it possible to play gnuchess with a board
using either knights or xboard
(both of which I have installed in my Fedora-23/KDE laptop).
I tried "gnuchess --xboard" but no board appeared.

hfsplus problems
by JD
I have a 4tb hfsplus partition.
Mounting and writing to it present no problems.
However
1. sync command hangs
2. umount of any hfsplus partion, hangs.
3. reboot hangs (it never reboots, forcing me to use the hard reset)
4. shutdown now hangs requires hard reset.
5. using the gui system -> shutdown -> [shutdown|restart|suspend|hibernate]
hang forever, thus also requiring hard reset.
The rpm is: hfsplus-tools-540.1.linux3-9.fc22.x86_64

using wvdial or NetworkManager while connecting on a USB 3g phone modem in India (on the Reliance GSM 3g network)
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I have been trying for several days to connect to a USB 3g phone modem in India on the Reliance GSM 3G network but without any luck. I am using an LG GD570 phone with USB set to Data Transfer mode. The bluetooth on this phone does not appear to allow for DUNS so I decided not to go that route.
While using NetworkManager, the modem is detected and there pops the usual "MobileBroadband connection made which even identifies correctly the provider", but nothing actually happens (and this connection can not be edited). So I create a new Mobile Broadband connection and put in the usual entries: APN: smartnet, plan Reliance but it does not even go to connect. NetworkManager refuses connetion almost instantly and that is that. I have tried changing the phone number from the default *99# to *99***1# and even #700 though I am not sure if the latter is for CDMA connections. Either way, it made no difference so I decided to try the wvdial route.
The output of lsusb and the output of dmesg upon attaching the USB cable are as follows:
for lsusb:
Bus 003 Device 122: ID 1004:6000 LG Electronics, Inc. Various Mobile Phones
OK, and that of dmesg:
[76131.772493] usb 3-1: new high-speed USB device number 15 using xhci_hcd
[76131.953471] usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1004, idProduct=6000
[76131.953483] usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[76131.953488] usb 3-1: Product: LG Mobile USB Modem
[76131.953493] usb 3-1: Manufacturer: LG Electronics, Inc
[76131.955764] cdc_acm 3-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
So, I created a /etc/wvdial.conf:
[Dialer LG]
Init2 = ATZ
Init3 = ATE0V1&D2&C1S0=0+IFC=2,2
Stupid Mode = 1
Modem Type = USB Modem
ISDN = 0
Phone = *99***1#
Init5 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","smartnet";
Modem = /dev/ttyACM0
Username = reliance
Dial Command = ATDT
Password = gsm
Baud = 460800
I am told that the user name and the password are not important for GSM connections as long as something is present because that is all GSM checks for.
I then run sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf and get the following:
$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.
ttyACM0<Info>: Speed 460800; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"
So, it looks like all are on the correct track: so let me try
$ sudo wvdial LG
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
--> Sending: ATQ0
ATQ0
OK
--> Re-Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATZ
--> Sending: ATQ0
ATQ0
--> Re-Sending: ATZ
ATZ
--> Modem not responding.
I am not able to get out of this despite several edits to the /etc/wvdial.conf files. Any suggestions as to what is going wrong as well as what I should be looking at?
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan
