Keyboard Volume Control Keys

Running F23, mate desktop and compiz. Each time I login the three volume keys on my keyboard cause no action. If I go into the program "/usr/bin/mate-keyboard-properties" either as a CLI or the System->Preferences menu and immediately exit the keys work as expected. Naturally the "correct" answer is not to mix source and package installs on a package based system. Why did you feel a need for CTAN? The best of the bad options are: Grab the texlive srpm and adapt it to your version (do note that the spec for it is hideous). Create an empty meta rpm that has no files contents but provides the texlive stuff so the dependency chain isn't broken and you don't have to custom install edited versions of a bunch of packages. The latter is the best bad option, but there will be no texlive updates and packages that expect a particular version or path may misbehave with your CTAN install.

New kernel will not boot after upgrade from fedora-21 to fedora-22

I have this system that I have been using that was running Fedora 21. I just updated it today (Monday) to Fedora 22. It is an old Dell Optiplex GX620 with two 2TB disk drives set up with two partitions each in a RAID One configuration. LVM2 runs on top of the second partition with several logical volumes. This system had been running just fine before I did the upgrade. After the upgrade, the system will not boot using one of the new Fedora 22 kernels. It boots just fine using one of the old Fedora 21 kernels that did not get replaced during the upgrade. I can get the system up using one of the new kernels, but I have to wait until it stops at a Dracut prompt. I then manual run "mdadm -- assemble --scan" to get the RAID One partitions assembled, and "lvm vgchange -a y" to get the Volume Group built. After that, I issue an "exit" and the system completes the boot process. I need to figure out why this system will not boot without intervention. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried to rebuild the initramfs with dracut, no joy doing that. systemd/sendmail problem - seeking help!

I'm running Fedora-24(beta)/KDE, and sendmail/email (through KMail) is failing. When I try to send email I get the warning "Failed to transmit message", and journalctl has the entry "sendmail.service: PID file /run/sendmail.pid not readable (yet?) after start: No such file or directory". I've checked, and sendmail.pid is in place: ================== [tim@william ~]$ sudo cat /run/sendmail.pid 2829 /usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q1h ================== Googling for the journalctl entry, I see people have been encountering this problem for years. But I haven't seen any solution offered. Several of the comments suggest that it is a systemd problem. copr-selinux dependencies Fedora 22

Trying to update on F22. DNF reports copr-selinux version 1.40 is available to replace v1.35 but it can not due to "broken dependencies". rpm says "policycoreutils-python-utils" is required but not installed. "policycoreutils-python" is installed and dnf says it required package is not available. rpmfind shows the "policycoreutils-python-utils" available for F23, but not for F22. Suggestions for how to resolve the situation? I don't anticipate using copr, perhaps remove it? Do any system functions depend upon copr installation? Jon -- Jon H. LaBadie jonfu(a)jgcomp.com

DNF group install of "KDE Plasma Desktop" fails

I am trying to install the KDE Plasma Desktop on a fresh installation of Fedora 23 via the Live image and it keeps throwing up dependencies for xorg-x11-drv packages that do not exist. I have a couple F23 installs laying around here and they arent installed on any of them, nor are they up in the public repository (http://mirror.cs.princeton.edu/pub/mirrors/fedora/linux/releases/23/Everyth…) And what is even odder, is that everyting I try to run 'dnf groupinstll "KDE Plasma Desktop" it comes back with another xorg-x11-drv package it says it cant find, and neither can i. earphone problems

Hi, I'm trying to use an old set of Logitech earphones on my Fedora 23 system. I use mplayer to play videos WITH audio tracks. This used to work with Fedora 22 and earlier but now the earphones don't work. I use /usr/bin/gnome-control-center to adjust settings and to a minimal test from various sources. All devices tested produce sound. I'm missing something here but can't seem to figure out just what that is. Can I get someone to give me some hints/clues/tips/suggestions please? Regards, George...

Posting to the Fedora message boards

While a long-time user, I never liked getting all of the messages in my email box, considering that only 5% or so are relevant to me. The digest form has the additional problem of how to reply to a post. Then, I discovered Gmane a few years back.I was bothered somewhat by using a third party interface and, it seemed, that not 100% of the posts ever showed up, depending on who posted where. It has worked well for me, but I had to set up the news program, typically knode, which also took a fair bit of time. Nothing ever seemed satisfactory. This morning I discovered Fedora's own web interface. I never even knew it existed!!! I think it could be the best solution yet... although sometimes it seems slow. What have you found to be he easiest, most convenient, etc. method of accessing the message boards?
