libvirt - XEN - Virt Manager no long er working on F23
by Outback Dingo
Ive been running Fedora23 with XEN under a kde desktop for some time now,
all working quite well, then about 3-4 weeks ago not sure why but a decent
working configuration with XEN / libvirt and virt-mamanger no longer seems
to function properly. Im booting as usual XEN from UEFI as I always have,
and VMs refuse to start with "cryptic" messages. so far Ive gotten this
from the logs.
cat libxenlight

How to pick up external speakers?
by Martin S
I sitting at our summer house with limited TV choices before our
"cable" service is renewed.
So, having gotten a "new" (well at least larger) Plasma (and TV display
through the SCART connection from our cable provider- Hyundai PD421)
screen with gazillions of ports to connect to stuff I thought of
running Netflix through my laptop (HP Probook 4530s) and Fedora using a
VGA cable. (Yes I know ... Chromecast/phone combo).
Viewing Netflix this way works nicely but then my son complained that
sound is coming from the laptop, not the speakers connected to the
Hyundai screen. I guess this has to do with the computer not
recognizing the speakers because it connected through VGA? There is a
HDMI port on the lappy but not on the Hyundai screen. Is there a way to
get Fedora to pick up the speakers attached to the screen?

clementine, mp3, gstreamer (F23)
by Frank Elsner
Hello community,
as mentioned earlier the upgrade from Fedora 22 to Fedora 23 went smoothly.
But my favourite music player "clementine" refuses to play mp3 due to a missing gstreamer plugin.
The following gstreamer plugins are installed
gstreamer-0.10.36-13.fc23.i686
gstreamer1-1.6.4-1.fc23.i686
gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free-1.6.4-1.fc23.i686
gstreamer1-plugins-base-1.6.4-1.fc23.i686
gstreamer1-plugins-good-1.6.4-1.fc23.i686
gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-0.10.23-29.fc23.i686
gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.36-13.fc23.i686
gstreamer-plugins-espeak-0.4.0-7.fc23.i686
gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.31-15.fc23.i686
gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.19-18.fc23.i686
gstreamer-tools-0.10.36-13.fc23.i686
Which one is missing? Are there conflicting plugins?
Any changes related to plugins since Fedora 22?
Kind regards, Frank Elsner

Installing with btrfs on LVM on dm-crypt
by Dmitriy Volkov
Hello,
I'm trying to install Fedora 23 with a following partition layout:
[disk1]
- `/boot`
[disk2]
- cryptdevice
- LVM
- btrfs `/` (with btrfs subvolumes, which is irrelevant here)
- swap
I have to use this relatively complicated layout to be able to 1) use dm-crypt plain mode on disk2 and 2) have proper swap with btrfs; it faired quite well with Arch.
I can't seem to find a proper way to do this: neither anaconda's GUI or (obviously) text mode allow such a setup. Should I write a kickstart file?

sed regex oddness
by Philip Rhoades
People,
This behaves as expected:
echo 'This is a test 12335 and 669384 535xy4' | sed 's/[0-9]*//g'
but I would expect this:
echo 'This is a test 12335 and 669384 535xy4' | sed 's/[0-9]*//'
to delete the first string of digits but it doesn't do anything . .
clarification from a sed guru?
Thanks,
Phil.

GREAT! f22 update of clementine ..,
by Frank Elsner
... breaks mp3 playback!
After updating clementine on my F22 I've the same situation
as on my F23 systems: clementine complains about missing
gstreamer plugin when trying to play mp3!
And it doensn't tell me the name of the missing plugin!
I'm really pissed off.

liveusb-creator gone?
by Timothy Murphy
Has liveusb-creator been replaced by Fedora Media Writer?
I'm having difficulty installing Knoppix on a stick with the latter,
although I had no problem installing an older version of Knoppix
on the same USB stick with liveusb-creator some time ago.
The copy now completes without error, but the stick is not seen
as a bootable device, and re-booting my ThinkPad T510
ignores the USB stick, and goes to the usual kernel menu.
I read that Fedora Media Writer is able to restore a USB stick
to factory setting, but I see no way to do this.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Fedora 23: Wayland problems
by David Aldrich
Hi
I am running Fedora 23 on a machine that has a 22" display connected via VGA.
The display was running fine at a resolution of 1680 x 1050.
Last Friday I accepted some system updates and, on reboot, ran into problems. The login screen became slow to respond and I got double characters on single key presses making it impossible to login. This looks like a known bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1275095 'Wayland login screen slow and unusable'
So I tried disabling Wayland for the login screen in /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
# Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false
The login screen now responds fine and I can login. However, the maximum VGA resolution supported (reported by xrandr) is now 1280 x1024, which is course on my 22" display.
So, is there a way to make the system support 1680 x 1050 on VGA on the current setup?
Or is there a way to rollback the updates applied last Friday so that I can make Wayland work properly again?
Best regards
