[FC8] ssh and CAC card???

From what I understood, the change to openssh listed in: rpm -q --changelog openssh |less as: "* Wed Jun 20 2007 Tomas Mraz <tmraz(a)redhat.com> - 4.5p1-7 - experimental NSS keys support - correctly setup context when empty level requested (#234951) " was supposed to allow the Common Access Card (CAC) to work with the shipped Fedora 8 ssh. This list's search engine not working?

Ever since I stumbled across this list, I seem to have major difficulties searching the archives. Say I want to see my posts to the list (they all have the same footer as below), I believe I could go to http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/ and enter "HaJo" as a search string. Searching in all sections, I get 0 results. Does the search engine ignore me by some reason? BTW -- I've been posting since about June, and when showing the archives sorted by author, I do find my posts. OK, not the most helpful to search for my own posts, but I do have the same issue when searching for given topics. Any other search engine out there indexing this list reliably? SATA optical drives

I'm currently running FC5, will probably upgrade to F7 in a couple of months. Unfortunately my CD/DVD rewriter appears to have died, before it's even seen a dual layer disk :'( SATA hard drives run without problems for me, but now that SATA optical drives are starting to appear in the shops, would it be OK to buy one of these and get rid of another wide ribbon cable? Is anybody already running them with Fedora? Thanks for any advice/experiences. Dave F

Changing date with procmail

Anyone know of a procmail recipe to change the date on incoming messages? If the date is in the future by more than 24 hours - I'd like to just change it to the current date. If the date is in the past by more than two weeks - I'd like to just change it to the current date. I'd like to do it in procmail - if someone knows how. I've done some searching, still have some to do. Found some stuff on extracting the date, but not on modifying it if necessary.

Hi, http://www.sysresccd.org/Download With the SystemRescueCd I backed up the /dev/sda6 partition in /mnt/backup/ naming "diskimage" After backing up operation the file has the automatic extension like "diskimage.000". Is this file ok to restore? If I name it "diskimage.gz" then it is automatically renamed with this extension "diskimage.gz.000" But here below http://www.sysresccd.org/Screenshots the file is name like this: "diskimage.pimg" Do I have to name with the .pimg extension during backup to restore correctly? And how can I restore it?

VPN options

I am planning on running a Virtual Private Network from my Fedora firewall out to a UML virtual colo (running RH9) at another site. That site will be the place I present services to the world; httpd, ssh, sftp, smtp. This is to comply with the "no servers" and dynamic ip restrictions on my Comcast connection to the net; if my firewall always drives an outbound connection to the colocation site, I am not worried about changes of ip address, and I am not opening any inbound ports. There are a number of options for the VPN - the most attractive are cipe ( http://sites.inka.de/sites/bigred/devel/cipe.html ) and FreeSwan ( http://www.freeswan.org/ ), though I am told that one can do all this through an ssh tunnel. I would rather have simple and secure than super-duper; I have plenty of bandwidth, and will send outbound http and smtp from the firewall, so the main bandwidth user will be incoming spam/b/b/b/b mail. Anyone have some experiences to share about setting up VPN? Is there anything about either cipe or FreeSwan that is likely to break with FC1 or FC2? Scriptlet errors during manual installation of Fedora 23

Hi, Because Anaconda doesn't support my usual partitioning scheme (root on Btrfs in LVM in LUKS in LVM in GPT, /boot on Btrfs, etc.), I created the entire layout manually and tried to install Fedora using dnf. The same layout works perfectly fine in ArchLinux. I basically followed this howto, with adjustments for s/yum/dnf/ and for EFI/GPT: http://dustymabe.com/2014/05/29/manual-linux-installs-with-funky-storage-co… The initial filesystem installation (dnf install -y --releasever=23 --installroot=/mnt/sysimage filesystem) already got a few glitches of this form: Non-fatal POSTIN scriptlet failure in rpm package filesystem This^^^ happened to roughly half of the installed packages. I tried to proceed with the rest (i.e., to install @core @standard kernel grub2 grub2-efi sihm grub2-tools), but it failed with scriptlet errors that prevented a few key packages from getting installed at all: error: %prein(selinux-policy-targeted-3.13.1-157.fc23.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 126 Error in PREIN scriptlet in rpm package selinux-policy-targeted Packages with those errors are reported as failed after the verify step. What I tried next: * setenforce 0 * upgrading the installation environment and/or the sysimage with dnf and rpm from rawhide * --releasever=22 instead of 23 * ...and checking for a few other common points with this bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1270663 * a plain sysimage directory with no predefined Btrfs subvolumes in it * unmounting, remounting, checking that everything has seclabel on, no weirdness in dmesg, etc. Well, nothing of the above helped; the error is still the same. How can I diagnose this? Where can I dig out the exact reason why the scriptlets are failing? Provided that Anaconda actually does some steps that I'm missing and can carry out the installation correctly, is there a way to *force* it to just accept whatever is mounted into /mnt/sysimage at the moment, without trying to make sense of it? I'm pretty sure dracut can handle my partition layout just fine, so the entire issue here is about getting the basic installation done somehow. Theoretically I could create a simple-and-stupid layout that Anaconda can handle, proceed with the installation and reshuffle the partitions afterwards, but that's sooo cumbersome that I thought I'd first ask whether someone knows a workaround to the scriptlet problems. ATA2:00: link is slow to respond....

Hi, my computer boot only in emergency mode ... Looking the journalctl (command journalctl -xb), I found (in thejournalctl ) these lines in red color : ATA2:00: link is slow to respond.... (and after..) ATA200: SRST failed (erro 16) That seem indicate that it is a problem to access the HDs.. I found a possible solution to the problem in this post: http://codeverge.com/opensuse.org.help.install/-solved-ata1-srst-failed-err… There is wrote that :...the problem can depend by the physic set up of the HD (as "master", "slave", "single drive", ...): this set up can be done by changing the position of a jumper on the HD... I know that, in the past time, the HDs had to be set physically in this way.., but recently I never heart anymore that the modern HD need this operation.. So actually I don't care anymore of the configuration of the HDs (my HD is Toshiba 1 TB that I bought few mounts ago). nc missing option -z

Hi, I used to use netcat to check if a particular host is up or if I have internet connection before I run a few scripts. I would use the -z option in particular. But now I see that has been removed: $ nc -z imap.gmail.com 993 && sync-my-email.sh ncat: invalid option -- 'z' Here is the excerpt from the old manual page: -z Specifies that nc should just scan for listening daemons, without sending any data to them. It is an error to use this option in conjunction with the -l option. Any ideas what happened to it? What can I use as replacement? Thanks for any ideas. -- Suvayu Open source is the future. Alternatives to Theme Font size changer Firefox plugin?

The popular theme font size changer Firefox plugin, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/, no longer supports Linux. The default Firefox font size is too small for people with poor eyesight. As far as I can tell, the only thing that official "Firefox themes" do is set a background image for the UI. As Benny Hill would say, biiiiiiiiiiiiig …deal. The top-ranked comment on that extension page suggests hacking "userChrome- example.css" in ~/.mozilla/firefox. $ find ~/.mozilla/firefox -name userChrome-example.css -print $ There goes that idea. Googling around the only other suggestion I found was to hack layout.css.devPixelsPerPx setting in about:config. All that did, apparently, was making the Firefox UI elements themselves bigger, but their font size – the menu and the URL bar – remained exactly the same. Anyone has other suggestions?

Taskbar Panel in Plasma Won't Autohide

Hi, I am trying to get the Taskbar Panel to autohide, but when I click on the options button in the panel, the left, right and center options are permanently highlighted but seem to function in terms of moving the indicator that reflects which option is active. Also the 'Always Visible', 'Auto Hide', 'Windows can Cover' and 'Windows go Below' options are also permanently highlighted but selecting the 2nd or 3rd option does nothing. It appears these options are highlighted because the colour scheme I am using, which is forget-me-not thinks they are push buttons. Does anyone know why these don't work anymore in Fedora 23? I am using Breeze for the Windows Style and Windows Decorations themes. regards, Steve

F21: Thunderbird insists on calling Fedora list messages junk!

Good afternoon, Most messages received from this fedora list are labelled junk by Thunderbird. This is even though I whitelisted "From" = "users-request(a)lists.fedoraproject.org". Actually, I have this problem both in my Fedora-21 and my windows-7 systems. Any ideas? Surely messages from this list are not junk! thanks, Bill.

Chrome blocks hibernation

This is weird. A few days ago I found that my desktop system (F23 fully updated) would no longer hibernate. Hi; enp0s8 not configured notification popups every few minutes (annoying) I just installed Fedora Live 64-bit KDE as a VirtualBox Guest OS. I want to have two VirtualBox ethernet interfaces: One for the vm to "see" outwards (NAT Network) and Two for me to ssh into it (Host-only) so that I'm not forced to use the console. Every few minutes (it seems like every few seconds), I get a notification popup that states that enp0s8 is not configured and then a notification popup that it is being disabled. How do I configure my outgoing ethernet interface? I used to edit a file called something like /etc/network*/interface and then I could change the default DHCP setting to be static and the default disabled (off) setting to be enabled (on). How does one do that kind of stuff now? Is that a systemd thing? Thanks, Ken Wolcott

NetworkManager drops config on link down

I have a USB ethernet adapter on my desktop system that I use when configuring new equipment (servers, routers, switches, etc.). I have a variety of pre-set configs in NM, like 192.168.0.x, 10.0.0.x, etc. Often while configuring something, I need to reboot it, which drops the link. NM "helpfully" de-configures the interface, and I have to wait for link to return and re-select the right config (because NM won't let me select a config for an interface that is link-down). Is there a way to disable this "helpfulness", so that for this USB ethernet interface, once I select a config, it stays configured (even if the link drops)? httpd fails to start

On a newly installed F24 I have a /home/... directory with a collection of movie files - *.m4v and such, that I want to googlecast to a TV for viewing. I've configured a private httpd setup to display this directory listing when the local machine name is entered in the address line of google-chrome, and when a file is clicked, it plays and can be "cast" to the TV. Neat! However, when the machine boots (quiet, without rhgb) the messages include [FAILED] Failed to start The Apache HTTP Server. See 'systemctl status httpd.service' for details. and, sure enough, httpd isn't running. journalctl -b shows this: Jun 27 10:33:17 garfield httpd[1100]: (99)Cannot assign requested address: AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.10.99:80 Jun 27 10:33:17 garfield httpd[1100]: no listening sockets available, shutting down Jun 27 10:33:17 garfield httpd[1100]: AH00015: Unable to open logs ... I recently upgraded my wife's laptop to an Acer with a fairly stock i5-6200U system using the UFEI boot (that was an adventure) About a month ago I started getting strange issues. Not lockups per se but it seems that the drive is somehow going into read only. Since that's the case after it starts nothing is getting written to disk (includes journal entries). Also the virtual terminals are useless: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-L6zfYtxT5y8/V283nqZgbEI/AAAAAAAABys/jhiE… Interestingly enough, a program already open will kind of work but any attempt to launch a new program from gnome shell fails. I was so happy when the nouveau driver finally worked on my nvidia maxwell card in fedora 24, but now after about a week, this happened: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1351286 Total screen freeze :-(. At least it took as long as a week. If it happens a lot, I may have to go back to nvidia binaries (I hate the pain of installing them).

Sound card Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 not working after update to F24

Hi all, as the subject says my sound card stopped working after the update to F24. The sound card worked like a charm in F22 and F23. Now the situation is as following: After booting the card is NOT listed by lsusb, yet the LED auf the 2i2 is on. After replugging the device it is listed by lsusb: Bus 001 Device 011: ID 1235:8016 Focusrite-Novation Now it gets wierd. As long as I do NOT log into a desktop session the card works fine in the console and is listed by lsusb. The card is selected in alsamixer and aplay works as expected. The card works and audio files can be played. As soon as I log in to a desktop session (standard GNOME in my case) the sound card doesn't work. Seems to be some kind of a pulseaudio problem. dnf update tries to install yum

Dear Experts, I've a Fedora 23 installed on my laptop and I keep it updated (even if I'm not going through the upgrade process yet). Yesteday when I checked which packages need to be updated, dnf proposed me to install this packages: Installing: yum noarch 3.4.3-507.fc23 fedora 1.2 M yum-metadata-parser x86_64 1.1.4-15.fc23 fedora 39 k yum-utils noarch 1.1.31-508.fc23 updates 117 k This sounds weird, as far as I know, dnf completely replaced yum so why I need to install it? F24: gnome crashing after nvidia driver install

Hi, After a fresh F24 install nouveau was freezing my screen intermittently so I removed it in favor of the nvidia drivers (367.27). It seems that Ive now traded one problem for another. With these divers in place and nouveau removed, gnome itself crashes and when it does the first message in the journal is: “X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)”. Upon researching that error, all i could find was screen resolution issues but when gnome does start the resolution is fine. installing via VNC over ipv6

This suggests installation using vnc over ipv6 is supported: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anaconda/Features/Ipv6OnlyInstallation But when I use inst.vnc boot option, I get an text screen that says to connect to an ipv4 address, an ipv6 address isn't listed. When I go to a shell and use 'ip addr' there is a global ipv6 address, but no formatting for tigervnc I've come up with will connect, it won't connect: vncviewer.desktop[12590]: CConn: unable connect to socket: Invalid argument (22) If I boot Fedora 23 Server on this same hardware, the 'ip addr' address can be used successfully to ssh into the server, and also point a browser to https://[ipv6]:9090 to reach the Cockpit interface successfully. root 1744 0.0 0.9 251060 36468 pts/0 Sl+ 03:29 0:00 Xvnc :1 -depth 16 -br IdleTimeout=0 -auth /dev/null -once DisconnectClients=false desktop=Fedora rawhide installation on host 10.0.0.15 SecurityTypes=None rfbauth=0 I can't tell if -InTransports needs to explicitly specify ipv6 for it to work. I installed Fc24 beta a month ago on a new laptop Ive tried upgrading to 24-final, unsure Ive succeeded. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DNF_system_upgrade heres what I get now: $ sudo dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever 24 --allowerasing --best Error: Need a --releasever greater than the current system version. that error suggests upgrade completed. Kickstart dependency resolution

I have a local mirror of Fedora 23, kept current nightly. In the updates mirror, there is a plasma-workspace-5.6.5-1.fc23.x86_64.rpm and a plasma-workspace-common-5.6.5-1.fc23.x86_64.rpm. There are no copies of the 5.6.4-1 RPMs. Nonetheless, when I try to install to a particular machine, kickstart stops with a fatal error, "nothing provides plasma-workspace-common = 5.6.4-1.fc23 needed by plasma-workspace-5.6.4-1.fc23.x86_64". (Yes, I am explicitly asking to install KDE, but not any specific versions.) Normally, the repodata directory is cloned at the same time as the repo contents are copied from upstream. On the chance that something was wrong with those files, I manually ran createrepo against all the repos. Same problem. How can I see where kickstart is getting the idea that it should install version 5.6.4-1? -- Dave Close

Nouveau weirdness with google-chrome

It is wonderful that the nouveau driver works out of the box not on my GTX 750 Ti and 4K monitor, but I have just been noticing a weird thing: Using google-chrome with the window resized to be a good chunk of the full 4K screen, when scrolling a page, it looks like big diagonal chunks of page are scrolling independently till it all settles down again when I stop scrolling. Or maybe like a wave is running across the screen. I don't know if it will get irritating enough to send me back to nvidia binary drivers or not :-). Weirdly, it does seem to be isolated to google-chrome. I just scrolled through the same page on firefox and didn't see the effect.

Fedora 24 touchpad customization

It seems that some of the touchpad customization options that were available previously have been removed in Fedora 24. In particular, two-finger scrolling is enabled by default, but edge scrolling is not available. Also, tap-to-click is disabled by default. Neither the Mouse Settings app nor Tweak-Tool have options to change those settings. <Insert perfunctory complaint about GNOME UI designers imposing their collective aesthetic sense on users> Is there a manual way to set those options with dconf-editor or some other tool? rsh busted?

1. The first person to lecture me about rsh and security gets shot :-). 2. On fedora 24, I can't get some test scripts to run which have used rsh since time first fell upon the face of the earth (and they are behind a firewall on a local network anyway). I've installed rsh and rsh-server on all the boxes, I've enabled rsh.socket. If I run rsh to localhost, it works fine. The test user has a ~/.rhosts file with all the names of all the systems mentioned as valid. But when I get on another system and try to rsh in, it always tells me "no route to host". Anyone have a clue what else to check?

NetworkManager: openconnect VPN connections won't work in F24

Hi all F24 users, I established a new opneconnect-VPN connection by the GNOME NetworkManager menue, but this connection does not work. I'm endlessly requested for a valid Userid/Password. But if establishing this openconnect VPN connection by the cli /sbin/openconnect, the connection works immediately. Anybody seas this too? Years ago, I used a tool called CED and PCED on DOS systems. I could type in "abc" and press an up-arrow and it would walk back through my stack of DOS commands showing only those with "abc" in them. Brasero: can't choose a directory.

I'm using Fedora-23, last patched last Thursday, 6/23. Last Friday, I was trying to back up some directory trees to DVD. I launched Brasero, and chose "New Data Project". The result should have been a list of the directories and files at the home or root level. The file list area was blank. When I try "Project" -> "Open", a populated file browser shows up. I can navigate the file system successfully, but I can't find a way to select a directory for copying to the DVD. This all worked in March in F-22, when I backed up before upgrading to F-23. What am I doing wrong? Or what have I not done that I need to do? Thank-you in advance for your help. Bill.

dual screen settings lost after dnf update

I have a F23 system (upgraded from F22 a while since) with two screens. The two screens were configured correctly with the mouse moving off the right side of the left screen and appearing on the left side of the right screen, giving one desktop spread across the two monitors. I've done a 'dnf update' and now both screens are showing the same content. I know in the past I used to control this through xrandr and a bash script, but I haven't had to use that in ages. I thought all settings were now in KDE. However, Google etc. points me to kscreen inside "system settings" but I can't find where to change this setting. Can anyone help please?

Well, first of all, /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service should*not* be a file, but a symbolic link. It should either link to /usr/lib/systemd/system/sddm.service or /usr/lib/systemd/system/kdm.service if you are using kdm. What does "systemctl status display-manager" return? Mr Greshko, Thanks very much for the correction. I did not look for symbolic links and I did not have sddm installed on my system. I did have a kdm.service file and enabling kdm creates the link as expected. I can use sddm if that is going to be the future, but I still prefer kdm - and with some advice from this list I can correctly use either one. After completing the fedora 24 upgrade on a fedora 23 system there was no graphical login and the system appeared to be running in console mode (run level 3). I have always used KDE as the display manager and desktop. I noticed a similar problem posted but none of its recommendations were appropriate for my system. I found the graphical.target set as the default (systemctl get-default). Then I noticed the graphical.target expects to have a display-manager.service but the display-manager.service file was missing. from the /etc/systemd/system directory. I copied the /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service file from a fedora 23 system and enabled the service (systemctl enable display-manager.service). Started the service (systemctl start display-manager.service) and poof the graphical kde login manager and desktop returned. Should this get posted as a bug or is the kde login manager expected to disappear with wayland?

Hi. I'm embarrassed to say I can't resolve this. So, my mind has gone blank! I've got a test file, with the following lines. Basically, I want a grep/regex to traverse the multiple lines to return the lines. ll_=urllib.quote_plus(simplejson.dumps(b2))+"\n" pathchildcount_filep.write(ll_) I've tried a number of attempts.. I thought something similar to the following should work. (but no luck) pcregrep -Mi ".+urllib.quote_plus(simplejson.dumps(b2))(.+\n).+path" foo.py The test file actually has the "\n" chars as text but the regex/grep can ignore it, to focus on getting the two lines.. In the case of the example, both lines start at the beginning of the line. Thanks (no laffing!!)

DNF does not actually upgrade

I did sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=24 --enablerepo=rpmfusion-free-updates-testing --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing --nogpgcheck which downloaded a lot of packages and ended with Complete! Download complete! Use 'dnf system-upgrade reboot' to start the upgrade. The downloaded packages were saved in cache until the next successful transaction. But when I do sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot The system reboots, pauses near the end and says "preparing upgrade. this may take a while". After about 3 minutes, it reboots again and I'm still in F23. There's no upgrade option on the boot screen, just the F23 kernels -- -- Steve

Fedora 24 install fail

Trying to install Fedoar 24 to a new machine. System freezes on the install just after and EDAC sbridge, - couldn't find mci handler. Used to have an message about KVM before but enabled VT in bios and that disappeared. Tried Fedora 24 live and Fedora 24 KDE live with the same problem. ASUS sabertooth X99 motherboard. Latest BIOS. nVidia Titan X video card. I suspect issue is with Titan X not being supported by Nouveau enough for install. The matrix says it should work without some basic features. https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix/ Will try a different nVidia card and see if that works. Robin

Minimizing downloads for multiple dnf system-upgrades

I have a bunch of x86-64 machines on my LAN. It seems to be a major waste of time to have each one of them plow through and download all F24 packages. I suppose I can poke around and find where the first one ends up downloading all the packages to, before the install, and then rsyncing the whole thing over to the next box. But I was wondering if there was a less hacky way to do this.

Usually on a new release I've had more problems by now, but F24 hasn't been giving me too much trouble. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1350128 Emacs install doesn't make the info dir file entries for the various emacs info files (fixed that by running the update tool by hand). https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1350112 Nothing broken, just spews strange and meaningless messages about systemd units at odd times. Probably not a postfix problem, but postfix is where it shows up, so that's where I reported it :-). https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1348757 This bug had already been reported, but I added to it because I have the same problem with kshisen crashing. I'm running with fedora 24 as my default boot now, hopefully it will continue to work well.

F24 starts in command line - SOLVED

Everyone: I thought I'd start a new thread, just to let everyone know I had a solution to the problem of F24 starting with a command-line login, not the graphical login I'd been used to. I'll pass along these two commands, which come from Garry T. Williams: sudo systemctl --force enable sddm.service sudo systemctl start sddm.service Run the second program only if you haven't started X already. If you have, do a restart. I had found sddm.service disabled on my setup. Maybe it always was, and I never gave it a second's thought. Anyway, F24 now starts as it should. And one thing I got back, is a full-sized "firetray" icon for either Firefox or Thunderbird. The latter is important: I now have back an accurate count of my unread messages, and can make Thunderbird disappear and reappear at will. Firefox, also--but Firefox gives me no other indicators. Thus far, aside from a very old off-line password manager that no one has maintained since F12, everything works as I'm used to seeing it work. I'm running KDE, and now I get a complete KDE login, and can directly select a user account, type in a password, and sign in, exactly as I do with Windows. (WinDoze?) I must say this dnf system upgrade program works better than I anticipated. And much better than fedup ever did. It shows me my progress in a way I can understand. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl. Possible reasons for having this kind of units are: 1) A unit may be statically enabled by being symlinked from another unit's .wants/ or .requires/ directory. 2) A unit's purpose may be to act as a helper for some other unit which has a requirement dependency on it. 3) A unit may be started when needed via activation (socket, path, timer, D-Bus, udev, scripted systemctl call, ...). Installing : qmobipocket-16.04.1-1.fc24.x86_64 1089/3005 Is this trying to tell me I can't run postfix as a service? If so, why not? If not, why did it want to print this gibberish and confuse me?

dnf not working

Hi, I recently installed Fedora 24 (infact today only). I am facing issues with dnf. Here is what I get whenever I use it. Error: Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'fedora' I can reach fedoraproject.org but I cant reach xyz.fedoraproject.org (ask,forums). Also, I cannot download anything from the GUI 'software sources' Detailed errors from the package manager follow: cannot download Packages/h/hexchat-2.12.1-2.fc24.x86_64.rpm to /var/cache/PackageKit/24/metadata/fedora/packages/: Curl error (28): Timeout was reached for https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-24&arch=x86_64 [Resolving timed out after 120000 milliseconds] I have tried 'dnf clean all' but I am still getting the same errors. dnf is looking for a gpg key in all the wrong places

On one of my machines: dnf system-upgrade download --releasever 24 this does its thing for a while, but after downloading everything (or rechecking that everything is already downloaded), dnf blows up with: warning: /var/lib/dnf/system-upgrade/docker-1.10.3-19.gitee81b72.fc24.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID 81b46521: NOKEY Curl error (37): Couldn't read a file:// file for file:///etc/pki/rpm- gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-x86_64 [Couldn't open file /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG- KEY-fedora-x86_64] The downloaded packages were saved in cache until the next successful transaction. You can remove cached packages by executing 'dnf clean packages'. The right filename is /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-24-x86_64 So, after a quick application of: ln -s /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-24-x86_64 /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG- KEY-fedora-x86_64 This made dnf happy. But the question remains is why dnf is using the wrong path on this particular machine. dnf had no issues with finding the gpg key on all the other machines I updated to 24, but what it's major malfunction here?

Auto Mount of Device Direct Connected to Router Fails

Hi, I have a Nas storage device that is direct connected to my router via ethernet. The auto mount at boot time that occurs as a result of the fstab entry fails to be able to mount the device. After I boot into KDE I can quite happily mount the device albeit via using sudo. If I try specifying the users and user options in the mount definition in fstab I get errors saying that CIFS doesn't support those options, hence the only option is to use root to mount the device. Does anyone know if this is deliberate on the part of CIFS or is this a defect? Reading the man page pointed at below is seems that CIFS will only allow Superuser mounts, is that likely to change? Looking at the systemctl output below, I have removed the userid and password for security reasons, it seems to be indicating that the boot mount failed because the network wasn't up. DNF plugin directory?

Because it seems to change in every fedora release, and so far the only way I can find it is to run dnf under strace and see where it looks for plugins :-). There wouldn't happen to be a release independent directory like /etc/dnf/plugins or something that won't constantly change on me?

At long last, my Nvidia Maxwell card worked out of the box on my 4K monitor using the nouveau drivers that come with fedora 24! I no longer need the nvidia binaries to get a non-black screen :-). But speaking of 4K monitors, in tty mode during boot the characters are about the size of gnats. Will the SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun32 kernel parameter give me a larger console font these days, or is there some other magic required to change the default console font?

How to add a network adaptor?

I have a machine running Fedora 22. The motherboard provides an Ethernet network adaptor, which I connect to our office network. I want to add an HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560SFP+ adapter to support a local subnet, but retain the original motherboard adaptor and connection to the office network. Before adding the 560SFP+ card, ifconfig -a reports: $ ifconfig -a eno1: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet 172.29.68.172 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 172.29.68.255 but after inserting the new card, that command reports new entries: enpls0f0 and enpls0f1, but eno1 has gone. Other issue is with google-chrome seems it gpg isn't in the /etc/pki/rpm-gpg directory? wget https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub sudo rpm --import linux_signing_key.pub Any ways to improve this process?

Sound device keeps reverting from hdmi2 to stereo

It errored out with saying it couldn't find any OpenGL drivers for my laptop (Intel Broadwell). Thought it was odd, but nothing was freaking out, so I didn't think anything of it. Saw some updates come up, updated, rebooted, and everything went to hell. Now whenever I try to boot, GDM errors out AIGLX error dlopen (path to i915_dri.so, and swrast) undefined symbol _glapi_get_dispatch_table_size & _glapi_set_dispatch Other than going back and undoing a few days worth of dnf operations one by one and seeing which one actually broke things, does anyone have any ideas? I can't imagine that this something specific to my system because that kind of error makes me think that something broke API/ABI

The burn tool Brasero in F24 needs extremly long time until it is completely started and it's desktop window appers.

Starting brasero in F24 takes about 40 (fourty!!) seconds until it's window appears on the screen. Until this moment, one CPU is completely busy (100%). Starting it a second time, the startup time is shorter and takes only about 1 sec. The ldd command for /usr/bin/brasero lists 128 libs. This happens with brasero-3.12.1-4.fc24.x86_64. After having installed the F24 Beta x86-64 workstation and running it since some weeks without problems, I tried to burn the recently released F24 Workstation image Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-24-1.2.iso to a DVD using k3b. Had a disk corruption and lost inbox messages from Dec 17, 2015 to June 15, 2016 So, I followed the tips online: 1. Exit TB 2. Login to gmail account via browser 3. Click on cogwheel on upper left of browser screen 4. Select Settings 5. Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP 6. Click on Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded 7. Scroll down and click on Save Changes. Restarted TB, logged in and I received ALL messages. However none of them were for the date ranges that I lost. So I used a plugin to delete duplicates. Yet, on the browser, I can see those messages for the date range that I want. How can I force them to be downloaded again?

Hi, I've some issues with both Evolution and gnome-online accounts, I try to use my yubikey in static password mode but the password isn't accepted. -With evolution it doesn't accept my passwd while my webmail does. -With Gnome-online account I try to connect to my owncloud account it also reject the password while client and webapp accept it. I use the same passwd for my session and gdm accept it and gnome keyring seems also to accept it. The only thing I see is the passwd length, 62 characters. Is there any limitation? F22 reboot issues

Since updating to F22 I have had issues with system restarts. Regardless of how I restart (reboot or systemctl) the process stops at the point where the log says "Reached target Shutdown" and just hangs. I have to press the physical restart button to get the system up again. The first thing that happens when I request the reboot is that I get a message "GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.LimitsExceeded Maximum number of connections for UID 0 has been reached". When the system does restart, I get a pop-up saying that Thunderbird is already running. I have to manually kill the tbird process and then reinitialise tbird. To my knowledge, there is nothing in a startup script to initiate tbird. Cheers and thanks, Stephen

Hi guys. This is totally off topic -- so delete as required!! I'm investigating a project, and have no clue as to where to start, other than Google/reseach/etc.. Curious as to how to setup a test system to have test users send/receive sms/test messages. If a user has a mobile/app that connects back to the "server" for the msg handling "stuff" does the process need to involve a twillo/telcom? I've seen open source projects (zulip) that have the server/client/mobile parts, but have no clue as to what's involved with architecting or building out a complete/working solution. So, I figured I'd ask here if anyone has any insight into this kind of system, or has pointers to any company/resource that I could talk to. Thanks guys -- Have a cool weekend!

Hi, I have a super annoying problem that is not Fedora specific, but it's been driving me nuts for a few weeks. Any idea for a more appropriate forum to post this in is as useful as an idea what's going on or next steps. Linksys WRT600N using dd-wrt in client mode, with laptop and Intel NUC connected via wired. Both laptop and NUC would get fast.com and speedtest.net download speeds of ~16Mbps for about 30 minutes then tank to maybe 150kbps after that until the Linksys radio was disabled then renabled, or just rebooted. The same thing happens when flashed with openwrt except it only takes 5 minutes to manifest. I assumed it was a bad radio on the WRT600N or maybe it's some hardware incompatibility with the local APs. I went down the road of multihoming (in previous emails I was sorting out how to get wireless routed by default for internet and wired for local stuff.) Well get this. The Apple laptop wireless always gets 16Mbps, it never tanks. The Intel NUC does the same thing as the WRT600N. It gets 16Mbps for 5-10 minutes, then implodes until I do a 'nmcli c down' followed by 'nmcli c up' sort of thing, and then it gets good bandwidth. So WTF? I just noticed this odd duck behavior: # sudo journalctl -b | grep AssocResp laptop fedora 24 (same results with fedora 23) https://paste.fedoraproject.org/378329/ intel NUC https://paste.fedoraproject.org/378331/ The Apple laptop wireless is bouncing between two APs exactly two minutes apart all the time. This is constant over weeks. But the Intel NUC doesn't do that, it pretty much sticks with one AP for hours at a time. All three devices are within 2 meters of each other. I have no idea where these APs are. Whatever is causing the Apple wifi card to go back and forth between two APs is somehow acting like a disconnect/reconnect "fix" that I've been doing manually with the WRT600N and NUC, which uses an Intel 3165 wireless card. Where the other two persist in holding on to an AP where the performance has face planted. My Motorola Android phone also doesn't have the problem. Maybe this is enough information to forward to the IT folks who manage this wifi setup? Is there anything else I should provide? Or some way of making this write up more concise? iwlist gets me this Cell 01 - Address: B4:C7:99:ED:F8:A8 Channel:11 Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11) Quality=46/70 Signal level=-64 dBm Cell 02 - Address: B4:C7:99:EE:25:08 Channel:1 Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1) Quality=60/70 Signal level=-50 dBm Cell 08 - Address: B4:C7:99:ED:F0:C8 Channel:1 Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1) Quality=30/70 Signal level=-80 dBm I have no idea why anything would pick cell 08 with that kind of signal, but bloop there it is. I don't think this is an 802.11g vs n issue. The WRT600N does n on dd-wrt, but only bg on openwrt. The Apple wireless is not using proprietary driver, so 802.11n isn't supported, only bg. F23 KDE stability issues

I'll be the first to admit that I don't use Fedora in a conventional way. But it suits me -- or it did until things started misbehaving a few weeks ago. Now I'm finally disgusted enough to write some notes and hope for good advice. I run F23 with the KDE desktop in what used to be called runlevel 3. I delete rhgb and quiet from /etc/default/grub and start X using startx because I like to see what happens during boot. I hate systems that try to hide what is really happening. Once KDE is running, I use eight desktops with several windows on each one, most of them XTerms with active SSH sessions to other machines. When I leave my desk, I lock the screen but I disable locking based on inactivity. As long as this works, I'm happy. But it doesn't work reliably for the last few weeks. If I'm away from my desk for more than a few minutes, the lock screen is frozen when I return. I can't unlock. I can switch to a different virtual terminal and kill X, but if I then try to restart X using startx again, it doesn't come up properly. No windows appear, no panels, and neither the keyboard nor the mouse do anything except move the cursor. I have to fall back to rebooting. When I reboot and startx again, things start up as they should. Except that all my previous windows are on the first desktop, overlapping like crazy. Moving them where they should be is very annoying and tedious. I have to do this at least once per day, sometimes more often. It's not just a matter of rearranging the windows, I also have to re-establish all the SSH sessions. And, of course, any active commands that were running were terminated so I may have some clean-up to do, also. My machine is completely up-to-date with the latest Fedora. Even the kernel is up-to-date due to the frequent reboots. The F23 was not an upgrade, it was originally installed fresh using the workstation image (but choosing KDE, not Gnome). -- Dave Close

How to set video resolution permanently in Fedora 22?

Hi I want my Fedora 22 box to run at a video resolution of 1680x1050. I added and selected that resolution by doing: $ xrandr --newmode "1680x1050_60.00" 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync $ xrandr --addmode VGA-0 1680x1050_60.00 $ xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050_60.00 That worked, but when I reboot the resolution reverts to 1280x1024. I tried creating file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-monitor.conf and putting in it: Section "Monitor" Identifier "VGA-0" Option "PreferredMode" "1680x1050_60.00" EndSection but that had no effect (perhaps because the resolution was not found after the reboot). How can I set the resolution to 1680x1050 permanently? Best regards David

But when I try to install to disk, in the storage device recognizing phase, it says "probing for storage device" (I am not sure about the exact wording though) and nothing happens after that (I waited for like 20 minutes). [OT] Apache/PHP question or resource

Running an instance of httpd and the /var/www/html directory has an index.php file. If I go to http://localhost the page appears to render properly and when I hover over certain areas a drop-down menu appears and I can see the corresponding URL showing in the lower part of my browser. However, when I click on any of these nothing changes. It appears that index.php is being served up. Also, even if I enter the URL of one of the links I get only index.php. I have bidirectional copy and paste enabled in VirtualBox for the Fedora 23 VirtualBox Guest; 3. copy&paste does not work either way; I have a Debian Jessie VirtualBox Guest on this same VirtualBox WIndows 7 host where bidirectional copy&paste works just fine. I have already requested assistance on the VirtualBox mailing list. But from Fedora if I try to access those files it is asking me for a password, which I did not set. Hi, How do I tell NetworkManager to default to wireless? The environment I'm in provides internet only via wireless, so that needs to be the default route, if that's the proper term. Right now it's defaulting to wired and since there's no internet via that route, the web browser hangs. nVidia Optimus support status

Apparently, the latest release of Bumblebee has dropped support for the nouveau driver. Installing the latest primus package from the bumblebee repo requires removing bumblebee-nouveau and installing bumblebee- nvidia. I haven't seen an announcement to that effect, but there is a bug report at the Bumblebee repo suggesting that that's the direction they are going. Is there a good, up to date summary of the state of Optimus support for Linux and Fedora, both open-source and proprietary? Anyone have in- depth experience with Dell (Latitude E6430) implementation and a recommendation for the best way to proceed? One point in particular: I have a docking station, but I've never been able to get video out when docked. Has anyone succeeded in getting that working? copying images out of pdfs

Again Fedora 22 Xfce. It seems Evince lacks being able to copy an image out of a pdf so I can paste said image into a presentation. Select text seems to be the only option. It was sad when we lost Acrobat reader for Linux. What other tool can read in pdfs and provide selecting an image (e.g. a figure in an IEEE standard) that I can then copy over to Libre Office? thanks

Thunderbird locks up

Hi, I am aware that this might not be an appropriate topic for this list, but you never know. I am running TB on Fedora 23. Have been using TB for years without problems. Suddenly when I launched TB the little wheel kept spinning and still does. I can't send or receive email. Nothing has changed in my account settings nor was there an update of TB. Ik can still handle email via webmail on this account. This is a message in the error-console: Timestamp: 05/31/2016 02:57:52 PM Warning: Unknown property 'grid-auto-columns'. Declaration dropped. Source File: resource://gre-resources/ua.css Line: 175, Column: 19 Source Code: grid-auto-columns: inherit; I don't know if this explains the locking up. I tried to remove and reinstall TB, but the problem remains. I asked this question at the Mozilla support forum, but this does not seem to be a useful forum. I don't know how to solve this problem. Changing the Title bar with multiple instances of Thundarbird

This is Fedora 22 with Xfce. I run 4 copies of Thunderbird via a script like: export MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 thunderbird -profile ~/data/htt/Mail & export -n MOZ_NO_REMOTE I have been doing this for years, now I could use the -no-remote option directly, but that is not the reason for this message... All copies of Thunderbird have a title bar that says the folder open and "Mozilla Thunderbird". Since they all tend to be on an inbox folder, the title bars are the same and this makes for a little challenge to figure out which one to switch to. So I am looking for a way to customize the title bar, either within the Thunderbird profile, or within the launching script. Any recommendations? And please don't recommend to run one copy with lots of email accounts. Each copy already has multiple email accounts. There are business reasons for separating them as I do. thank you

Balsa -

I have installed Balsa in this updated Fedora 23 computer, it runs but will not connect to the mail server. I can click on "check" and it appears to be checking for mail but produces an error message ending in "ERR Invalid Command." I've been through the account set up process again thinking I may have had a typo, but still no luck. I'm trying to compile Canon's Linux driver for my Canon MG5550 printer, and the instructions tell me to run "rpmbuild". When I consult <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_create_an_RPM_package> (dated 23 May 2016) I'm told to dnf-install fedora-packager, but this brings up [root@william tim]# dnf install fedora-packager Error: package fedora-packager-0.5.10.7-1.fc24.noarch requires mock, but none of the providers can be installed and similarly [root@william tim]# dnf install mock Error: package mock-1.2.17-1.fc24.noarch requires systemd-container, but none of the providers can be installed Is this because I am running Fedora-24 beta? Kmod-nvidia Package out of Date

I am trying to install kmod-nvidia to use the nvidia proprietary drivers but when I issue sudo dnf install kmod-nvidia I get the following error: Error: package kmod-nvidia-1:358.16-1.fc23.x86_64 requires kmod-nvidia-4.2.3-300.fc23.x86_64 >= 1:358.16-1.fc23, but none of the providers can be installed If I attempt to do the same thing through Yumex the kmod-nvidia-4.2.3 package is selected for install, but so is kernel-core-4.2.3 and also kernel-4.2.3 which won't install because I have kernels 4.4.7, 4.4.8 and 4.4.9. Does anyone know when the kmod-nvidia packages will be upgraded to support the current kernels? I have tried using the azmod packages but they won't install while nouveau is in the kernel image. regards, Steve

Wifi losing connectivity after 1-2 minutes on F22

Dear List, For the past 7-10 days I been experiencing a persistent problem with wifi connections on my Lenovo T440s after using F22 for 12 months in the machine without problem. The wifi connection is made just fine with my router and I initially have connectivity. After a few minutes though the connection will become dead (eventually the gnome status area icon will show a ? but only if I leave it long enough). When I try to visit a new website in Chrome it displays "Resolving Host" in the status pop-up. I was just starting to run a dfn upgrade and I saw: Error: Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'updates' from 'https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released-f22&arch=x…': Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist: Curl error (6): Couldn't resolve host name for https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released-f22&arch=x… [Could not resolve host: mirrors.fedoraproject.org] If I turn the wifi of and back on again (either via the physical key on the keyboad Fn-F8, or via the gnome3 wifi/status tool in the top right of the desktop) the connection comes up fine and I have connectivity again for a few minutes and then the cycle repeats again I've tried changing DNS servers to say Googles servers to rule out an issue with my router/ISP DNS but to no avail. I have numerous other devices (all Android) in the house connecting to the same wifi router and they are not experiencing any connection problems at all. I'm running currently Linux 4.4.11-200.fc22.x86_64, but see the same problem on 4.4.10 and 4.4.9. I also have: NetworkManager.x86_64 1:1.0.10-3.fc22 @updates installed. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this problem or what to try to resolve it short of installing F24 and risking using the beta for a couple of weeks. I'd appreciate greatly any insights you might have or suggestions as to what to look at to track down the source of the problem or provide more information that you might require to diagnose what is going on. Inside that, offlineimap should start and decrypt my login credentials. The graphical variant of pinentry should ask me for the password for decrypting my login credentials, when I attach to the session. For managing my login credentials, I use the program 'pass' ( https://www.passwordstore.org/ ). ## What I've got so far: The desired Behavior works perfectly and reproducibly (starting from reboot), when i start the user service after I've logged into my system. installing Fedora on ASUS R503U

Hi, I am trying to install Fedora on an old ASUS R503U which came with Windoze8. The boot options in the BIOS have Windoze Boot Manager, Generic USB, etc. My plan is to install Fedora and wipe out the other OS. My question is what I should add to the boot option in the BIOS in lieu of the Windoze Boot Manager. Normally, the bios entries for machines I have previously installed says "Hard Disk" and I never bother with it much. Any suggestions? Fedora 23 and DisplayPort with audio

Hi I recently updated my computer with a Asus z97a motherboard and a i7-5775C processor with a Iris Pro 6200 GPU. That's the only GPU I have in the computer. Now the monitor that I use comes with integrated loudspeakers that I would like to use and if I connect my monitor with the motherboard over HDMI I have both video and audio. That's nice. But if I try to use DisplayPort instead I get no audio. The reason I would like have DP instead of HDMI is that the former can drive the monitor at 60Hz instead of 50Hz. In Gnome Settings -> Sound the options are the same regardless of which cable I use. Not the biggest problem in the world, but it would be nice to get some insight if this is a problem that can be solved? Also I get video over DP only with version set to 1.1 If I in the monitor menu switch to DP 1.2 the screen will just go black.

notify updater with all history

Hello by some days (2 weeks or something like that) the notify popup that warn me that some updates are ready to be applied, does show me a very long history of updates needed by my system, many lines are replicated, I have a 15" screen and now it fills up all screen vertically It is boring What can be done to avoid it? br -m

printer config that doesn't require NetworkManager

Does anybody know if there's a printer configuration tool for Fedora that doesn't require NetworkManager? Everytime I want to install system-config-printer it wants to bring in NetworkManager as s dependency and I'm really not at all interested in having NetworkManager installed. -- Regards, Kevin

How do I change my email address for the users list? The URL at the bottom of the page sends me to a page requiring me to login. It recognizes nothing I have used for i.d. in the past and if I try for a new login account nothing happens. Fedora 23 (4.4.9-300.fc23) ZFS problem after reboot

Yesterday I upgraded a Fedora server to 4.4.9-300.fc23.x86_64, after the reboot all my ZFS pools where gone. After some fiddling and testing I created these set of steps to solve the problem: dnf remove zfs dnf install zfs modprobe zfs zpool import zpool import -D zpool import raid1 zfs mount -a Can somebody acknowledge the same problem and is this to be more expected in the future? ZFS version: zfs-0.6.5.7-1.fc23.x86_64
