Fedora 24 encountered issues with Asus UX305CA (-FB104T)

After looking for quite a while for suitable Ultrabook to run Linux, I decided to go with Asus UX305CA. My first attempt included installing latest Fedora (24), however, this was not without problems. The following issues were encountered so far: 1. LIVE USB: - Booting from Live USB works fine, except the touchpad did not work. - Workaround: if I connected USB mouse before booting to live USB, then *both* USB mouse and touchpad did work 2. Default F24 WS (immediately after installation) - touchpad started working also without mouse 3. F24 WS with the latest updates as of 2016-07-10 (and with Kernel 4.6.3-300.fc24.x86_64 #1 SMP): Issue 1: Fedora boot hangs (only power off helps) after selecting kernel 4.6 from grub, producing only a blank screen. Something to do with graphics mode switching? - Workaround: hit ESC a few times immediately after choosing kernel 4.6 from grub => screen changes to text mode and shows '^[' => LUKS (graphical) password prompt appears after a while => after entering password the boot continues as usual working just fine. - Note: tested entering password into the blank screen (i.e. without hitting esc) several times, in case the luks password prompt was there and not displayed, but the boot would not continue Issue 2: Fedora FN+F5/F6 (brightness keys) did not work. - Fix: edit grub default configuration + install & enable acpid -- edit /etc/default/grub and append acpi_osi= at the end of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUsudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfgX_DEFAULT (as in http://askubuntu.com/questions/471847/brightness-fn-key-shortcut-doesnt-wor…) -- update grub (sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg) -- reboot -- install and enable acpid -- sudo dnf install acpid -- sudo systemctl start acpid -- sudo systemctl enable acpid

Hello Folks I know that there's probably been an email advising of changes - but, mailman still puts out the email below once a month and the links and passwords contained are no longer relevant. Any hints to those not paying attention how to login etc? nfs client ownership

Hey. Simple question, but can't seem to solve it. Test nfs server works Copy file to the test dir.. On the master, the test file cat.txt is owned by 'user1' I have a user1 on the client box, and I'd like any files copied to the nfs to be shown as owned by the 'user1' on the client nfs box.. I've looked into the mount command, as well as diff articles on the fstab/mount process, but can't seem to resolve this. Any pointers?? Thanks I know, I could just chown, etc.. after the fact.. but I'd like to figure out how it should be done!!

mounting davfs2 on Fedora 24 (can't mount with rw access for user)

Hi, I am trying to mount a Box.com share using Fedora 24. I install davfs2 using dnf and try the following: sudo ./mount-box.sh where mount-box.sh contains the following: mount -t davfs https://dav.box.com/dav /mnt/box -o rw,user,noauto,uid=USER,file_mode=600,dir_mode=700 (In the above USER is my user on my local machine.) I then try out the following: $ sudo ./mount-box.sh Please enter the username to authenticate with server https://dav.box.com/dav or hit enter for none. Username: USERNAME Please enter the password to authenticate user USERNAME with server https://dav.box.com/dav or hit enter for none. Password: /sbin/mount.davfs: Warning: can't write entry into mtab, but will mount the file system anyway Thus, I am able to mount it anyway, however, as user, I do not have any read or write access. I can not even see the directory as a mortal user. Root of course, has full access. Btw, df has it listed: .... https://dav.box.com/dav fuse 910T 12K 910T 1% /mnt/box So, my question is: how do I mount such that I get read-write access as a mortal user? Invisible Thunderbird Scrollbars in F24

captive portal SSL certificate issue on F23

Hi! So everything was working well until maybe 4-5 days ago. Now I am systematically getting a SSL certificate error regardless of the captive portal I go to, and thus blocking me from identifying and using the internet on that connection. Any idea what this could be and how to "clean it up" to go back to the working mode ;-) I am on F23 at the moment. Thank you. Fred

install alongside two postgresql versions

My upgrade from Fedora 23 to 24 left me with a broken postgresql. # /usr/libexec/postgresql-ctl start -D /db/pgsql/data -s -w -t 270 FATAL: 22023: database files are incompatible with server DETAIL: The data directory was initialized by PostgreSQL version 9.4, which is not compatible with this version 9.5.3. LOCATION: ValidatePgVersion, miscinit.c:1364 pg_ctl: could not start server Examine the log output. <Note: my data are in /db/pgsql/data> --------------------------------------------- # postgresql-setup --upgrade * Upgrading database. ERROR: pg_upgrade tool failed ERROR: Upgrade failed. * See /var/lib/pgsql/upgrade_postgresql.log for detai ------------------------------------------ It seems I must install 9.4.8 alongside my current 9.5.3, then dump a backup from 9.4.8 and restore with 9.5.3. Is it possible to install 9.4.8 ? I found 9.4.8 .rpm packages for Fedora 23. How can I install them without touching anything to 9.5? Is there any other solution to solve this initialisation issue? fedora maintenance mode

I have a Fedora 23 system which has been running just fine. I have update it to all the latest updates. I rebooted the system after the updates and then ran: sudo dnf upgrade --refresh RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free 584 kB/s | 457 kB 00:00 RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree - Updates 1.0 kB/s | 257 B 00:00 RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free - Updates 552 B/s | 257 B 00:00 Adobe Systems Incorporated 7.1 kB/s | 1.8 kB 00:00 Fedora 23 - x86_64 - VirtualBox 253 kB/s | 74 kB 00:00 RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree 119 kB/s | 156 kB 00:01 google-chrome 46 kB/s | 3.5 kB 00:00 Dependencies resolved. Nothing to do. Complete! I then rebooted the system and since then it boots to maintenance mode. I ran journalctl -xb, but I don't know what to look for. The last entry says Received SIGRTMIN+32 from pid 322 (plymouthd) Can someone tell me how I can reboot the system? Any help is appreciated. Paolo

nfs - aws/vm

Hey... Just wanted to get some input/opinions... Project I'm working on, will have a bunch of worker VMs created, and the vm will attach to the masterNFS on the masterVM.. However, in the masterVM, the process will have to update the /etc/export file, to allow the newly created child/workerVM to access/connect to the nfsShare/dir. The /etc/export file is owned by 'root'. In order to update the file, I was considering modifying the perms to allow a script to access/modify the file, with the script being run as a separate user.. although... guess for the test.. i could just have # vi /etc/exports /nfsshare *(rw,sync,no_root_squash) which should just make the dir open to all clients that want to access it. This would allow all clients to map/access the share, but since the app is run on a dynamic time frame.. IE, I run it.. it spins up everything.. runs, then shuts down... might work. Thoughts/comments?? Thanks
