Upgrade to F23 breaks PERL

I have seen many posts relating to this type of issue but no canonical way to fix it properly. Since updating to F23 (from F22) using dnf last night, many/all PERL programs are broken and give errors such as: fetch_modules: error loading required module Compress/Zlib.pm: Can't load '/usr/local/lib64/perl5/auto/Compress/Raw/Zlib/Zlib.so' for module Compress::Raw::Zlib: libperl.so.5.20: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory at /usr/lib64/perl5/DynaLoader.pm line 193. at /usr/local/share/perl5/Compress/Zlib.pm line 11. Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/share/perl5/Compress/Zlib.pm line 11. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/share/perl5/Compress/Zlib.pm line 11. Compilation failed in require at /usr/sbin/amavisd line 210. /usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib64/perl5/auto/MIME/Base64/Base64.so: undefined symbol: Perl_xs_version_bootcheck or -- /usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib64/perl5/auto/Unix/Syslog/Syslog.so: undefined symbol: Perl_xs_version_bootcheck I understand from other posts that this is probably caused by my having two PERL installations but: a. I have no idea why there are two PERLs b. I can find no instructions on how to remove one version and (hopefully) fix this issue. (In the meantime, I cannot run amavisd so am inundated with spam.) kernel 4.7.2 update broke bind

Can't get any more broken than a segfault at startup :-) Looking at the carnage in /var/log/messages, it broke so bad that even systemd-coredump choked on itself, and failed to do whatever it wanted to do. Impressive. Booted back to 4.6.7 to get things going again. Don't really have much to add to bug 1374917, besides the sorry state of affairs from /var/log/messages. chroot might have something to do with it. I'm running named-chroot.service

kernel 4.7.3 and module nvidia

Bonjour, I updated my f24 this morning: a new kernel is provided and using the akmod-nvidia, X won't start.... I logged on console and tried startx but it failed with this message: FATAL: nvidia module not found in /lib/modules/4.7.3.-200.fc24.x86_64 Of course, the nvidia module is in /lib/modules/4.7.3.-200.../extra/nvidia-340xx Exactly like for the previous kernel (4.7.2).... I copied the nvidia.ko in /lib/modules/4.7.3.-200.fc24.x86_64 but, startx failed with the same message which is a lack of honesty! What happens? VPN connection failed because service stopped

Dear All, I was able to connect to a vpn server (PPTP) with no difficulties. But now, I get always the following message: "VPN connection failed because service stopped". From a MS Windows machine, I can connect to the referred vpn server. Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance, Paul

OT: what does this expression mean?

Hi all, This one's not in my unix nutshell book :/ Extracting the sound from some music videos (mp4's) into mp3's: for f in "$(ls *.mp4)"; do ffmpeg -i "$f" -c:a libmp3lame "${f%.mp4}.mp3"; done I'm not familiar with this notation: ${f%.mp4}, where $f is the name of an mp4, e.g. "my favorite video.mp4". Can somebody explain this to me? TIA, Mike Wright

Hey. Simple question. Got a basic string.. http://venturacollege.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BNCBHomePage?… trying to get the internal sub-string "78236" I can remove the beginning portion, but can't figureout the rest of the regex to remove the subsequent chars.. awk -F': ' '{print $2}' | tail -1 | sed 's/.*storeId=$.*$.&/\1/' Any help/pointers/thoughts.. thanks

dnf update package from specific repo

Hi All! I have two repos with the same named package. How can i set to ignore it from one of them? repo1:package repo2:package i want completely ignore package from repo2. is it possible with dnf? Thanks.

Google Chrome always asking me to enter the password to unlock my login keyring

Dear All, Whenever I start Google Chrome, pops up a box asking me to enter the password to unlock my login keyring. Does somebody know how to get rid of this annoying box pop up? Thanks in advance, Paul
