tcp_wrappers deprecation

Hello Fedora devels and users, more than three years ago, the same topic started discussion if we want this package in Fedora or not and how [1]. The discussion resulted mostly in flames and in the removal of the dependency on tcp_wrappers from systemd. But it was quite agreed that it is considered as a security layer for some users, if they use it correctly, or something that is or should be replaced by firewalls. So can we discuss it now once more without the affiliation to systemd? The fact is that we still do not have any other replacement except firewalls. But do we need one? The complete removal of the package is probably not a wise step, even though we can not find tcp_wrappers in recent SuSE anymore [2]. It is still available in Arch [3] without other tools depending on it. To be fair, Debian [4] is still building tools (for example openssh) with a build-time support for it. My primary concern is OpenSSH, which upstream dropped support for tcp_wrappers three years ago (late 2014) [5] and since then we are maintaining one more downstream patch. But this effort should be coordinated among other components to simplify the transition for users who insist on using it (using tcpd). Removing the dependency will also allow us to trim the default install for few more Kb. If there will be no significant drawbacks, I will progress with filling a system wide change for Fedora 28 and I will pull the maintainers of other tolls using libwrap into the round and discussion. Fedora 26 server installation

I'm trying to kickstart a Fedora 26 server from a local repo. What is the magic sauce to force installation from local repo only? The PXE file points inst.stage2 to the local repo and sets inst.geoloc=0, yet after "Starting automated install", download of repodata/* files, there is no more access to the local repo. I'm logging https requests to servers like 67.219.144.68, proxy06.fedoraproject.org, vm3.fedora.ibiblio.org etc. instead.

firefox private browsing issue

I thought I should ask here before logging an issue with ff. I discovered that when I do banking in firefox [54.0 (64-bit) on f24], after I log out and open the login page again, I am not asked for the user/pwd but am allowed straight in. After I log out I also clear cache/cookies but I am still allowed in. If I log out a second time then it takes. This does not happen in a standard window. Has anyone noticed this? F25 -> F26 printer problems

hello, I use two printers, an HP4630 & Xerox 6655, both on networks. They have been in use with no issues from F24 upgraded to F25. Now with F25 upgraded to F26 there are some issues. The machine is Thinkpad x260, running with Gnome desktop (3.24.2-1). uname -a: Linux rwells-x260 4.11.11-300.fc26.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jul 17 16:32:11 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The HP 4630 has been set up using the HP Device Manager which recognizes it as expected. No problem printing a test page from within HPDM However within the "Printers" application available from Gnome "All Settings" the 4630 "Printer Details" shows the printer address as "localhost" (even though Cups shows the correct address) and any attempt to print from an application, e.g. LibreOffite Writer fails. The job is listed as "Stopped" and has to eventually be removed from the queue. A side note: XSane has no problem using the scanner component of the same device just as it did before the upgrades. The Xerox 6655 printer appears with the correct IP address in the "All Settings/Printers/Printer" dialog and any print job remains in the Job list as "Stopped" just as in the case of the HP4630. However in this case the job is sent to the printer. After it prints it must be manually removed from the job list. Anyone else seeing this? Does anyone have any experience or pointers on recovering XFS partitions?

Correction -Firefox/TLS Handshake -

When I address Firefox to https://www.google.com I get a message at the bottom of my screen "Performing a TLS handshake to www.google.com" and it looks like nothing more than that is ever going to happen ... Is this some new feature I need to deal with, I believe there was a Firefox upgrade this morning when I did the usual dnf upgrade. Whatever it's a problem for doing a search with Google. When I address Firefox to https://www.firefox.com I get a message at the bottom of y screen "Performing a TLS handshake to www.google.com" and it looks like nothing m,ore than that is ever going to happen ... Is this some new feature I need to deal with, I believe there was a Firefox upgrade this morning when I did the usual dnf upgrade. Whatever it's a problem for doing a search with Google. why doesn't GRUB obey /etc/default/grub?

By now we've seen a few postings that you can't customise grub the way that it's meant to be done (by modifying /etc/default/grub) as the processes used by "dnf update ..." ignore it. What tool to configure SAMBA on Fedora25

Hi, How to configure Samba on Fedora25. Seems too complex. Anybody could indicate an easy tool to configure Samba on Fedora25. I have a Win7 32 bits as a virtual machine running on KVM. All is working fine, but I want to share files on Fedora25 with this machine(Win7_32). How? Need some help, please. Thanks.

I have lost the ability to resize windows with alt-middle click

Starting maybe a few days ago, holding Alt near the corner of a window and middle-clicking, which used to turn the cursor into a window-resizer, no longer does anything. I tried other variants (other buttons, the Super key) and none seem to do it. Any suggestions for how to get it back? This is F25 and I update regularly. Thanks, Matt
