SD slot errors

I've just installed F28 beta on my Cube Mix Plus tablet. It seems to work but a sequence of messages keep showing up in the dmesg outputnevery 10 seconds. Help debug a network issue

Hello, I am trying to trace down a problem with a laptop that when it goes into suspend for any reason, the network won't come back up. Only a reboot will enable the wired network. This problem started in February after a kernel update with Fedora 26. Upgraded to Fedora 27 today and the problem still persists. I was hoping it would be fixed. The only indication of any issue is an error message that pops up. kernel: do_IRQ: 7.33 No irq handler for vector. I would like to find more details but if I cannot I will just file a bug against the kernel. Robin

Problems with ASUS MB and CPU temperature

Hi, I have recently installed Linux on my PC and I have some problems with the CPU temperature, while everything works fine under Win10. The MB is an Asus STRIX B250F - The chipset is reported by hwinfo as "Intel 200 Series PCH LPC Controller (B250)". The problem is that it seems that the fans are not controlled and the CPU temp get very high, and during some tasks (like a "dnf update" with several packages) I get a "Temp critical CPU throttled" message. The sensors command gave little help at start with the default installation. On line I found some advice and I tried using the grub option "acpi_enforce_resources=lax" and loading the "nct6775" module which reports "Found NCT6793D or compatible chip at 0x2e:0x290" in dmesg. With this sensors gave more info (Temp and Fans) but some was still missing unfortunately the problem remains. Does anyone knows what is the proper module to load for this chipset? Or if there is something else to be done. Thanks, GianPiero

vt's enable screen blanking

How does one activate screen blanking on the vt's these days? I have an ancient 32-bit x86 Acer mini laptop running as a server where the X11 greeter just started crashing in a tight loop. I've turned the graphical login off but that leaves me with the first vt's login prompt displaying. Whatever is responsible for blanking the screen seems not to be doing its thing. Where is the screen blank timer configuration these days? It has been so long and things have changed so much that google is useless. I assume systemd has absorbed that function by now but I can't find it. /etc/systemd/logind.conf doesn't seem to have a screenblank setting even though it seems to have everything else. -wolfgang

Borgmatic

I've recently started experimenting with Borg as a deduplicating backup system ('dnf install borgbackup'). Think 'duplicity' on steroids. However there are many quite complex configuration options and a number of efforts exist to make things simpler for the average user, especially when setting up an automated backup regime (the only kind of backup that's worth a candle of course). One of these is a Python3 script called Borgmatic (https://torsion.org/ borgmatic/), which is easy to install using pip3 but needs some minor tweaking to run on Fedora (it installs in /usr/local/bin, which is not in the default PATH for sudo). It would be much more elegant if this could be done as a proper Fedora package and installed in /usr/bin. I've been in touch with the creator and although he has no issue with this happening he's not a Fedora user himself. I'm not volunteering to do it either because a) I have no experience of package creation and maintenance, and b) Borg itself is already maintained as part of Fedora, so the logical step would be for the Fedora maintainer to take it on. What is the approved process for suggesting this? poc

Power settings wrong or battery dying?

Hi all, I have a four year old laptop that's running Fedora 27 Workstation. If I leave the thing switched off and unplugged after a day it will need recharging by varying degrees. Have I missed something in the power settings or is my battery on it's way out? Thanks for looking

Windows Dual Boot

For reasons connected with LyX development, I need to install Windows 10 on one of my machines. It is already running Fedora 27, and my intention is to install Windows 10 on a separate SSD. I've not done this in a long time, and, as I recall, in the past, it was by far best to install Windows first. (That's what Google thinks, too.) But it's too late for that, and I'd really rather not have to re-install Fedora. I take it the main issue here is getting GRUB back up and running. Can somone give me hints how to do that? screen command and copy/paste terminal buffer to empty

On old version of screen installed on Centos 5.5, for example this .... $ screen --versionScreen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06$ rpm -q screenscreen-4.0.3-4.el5 do not clean terminal copy/paste buffer when I run a new screen or I reuse a previous screen ... and this is good! But the subsequent versions to last current version ... $ screen --versionScreen version 4.06.02 (GNU) 23-Oct-17$ rpm -q screenscreen-4.6.2-1.fc27.x86_64 clean the terminal copy/paste buffer when I run new screen session o I reuse a previous suspend screen session When I'm inside a screen session and I select with mouse some text, then copy it with right click into buffer, when I exit from screen and return into terminal session, the copy/paste buffer is not clean and I can paste the previous copy text via right click or press the middle mouse button. But if I copy some text previous to run a screen, then run a new screen or reuse a suspend screen, when I'm inside the screen the copy buffer is empty and I do no t can paste it in any way. Bug in cups web interface?

I used localhost:631 last night to turn on the global setting to make my printers visible on the network. It said it was restarting the server, but apparently all it did was stop the server until I manually did a "systemctl start cups" in a root window. Anyone else noticed this? If I wanted to report it would just "cups" be the right component to use in bugzilla?
