Fedora and Radeon 5700xt

Hi, has anyone been able to run Fedora with a Radeon 5700xt? I installed the Fedora 31 Beta in nomodeset mode and then updated the kernel to the current 5.4.0 version in rawhide and while the resolution during boot is now set to the native resolution of my 1440p ultrawide screen the moment the GDM screen is supposed to show up the system freezes. Is there something that can be done to make this work or is Fedora known to not work with the 5700xt at all at the moment? Regards, Dennis

Hi! I thought this would be a good group to ask so... I and a few people I know use software which do not generate great reports or they do that painfully. We use spreadsheets, manual exports, etc. to get something useful. Does anyone know of a "simple" web application preferably running on php/mysql (but we could compromise ;-) ) where you set up import rules from either mysql/mariadb, csv files and from that generate beautiful and meaningful reports? Graphical reports would probably be a plus but let's see what people are using. And it would be nice if this could be automatized and eventually sent through emails (links to a web page or...). Hi, Imagine no user logged in to neither GUI nor CLI but a background service is running. Is it possible to send a notification to GUI after completion of the processing running on the background? Bind my personal shell program to open only a specific text file extension (and not all text/plain files)

I have a my personal application (~/bin/launch-app) that read a text file with .app extension (myapp.app) and run some stuff of things Since the myapp.app is a text file ... [lesca@dodo tmp]$ file myapp.app myapp.app: ASCII text if I try bind this file to my program launch-app via nemo, nautilus, thunar, ecc or via line command mimeopen, all other text (text/plain) file (es some.txt) are bind to my program. [lesca@dodo tmp]$ mimeopen -d /tmp/myapp.app Please choose a default application for files of type text/plain ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 1) launch-app (userapp-launch-app-LF774Z) 2) LibreOffice Main (libreoffice) 3) Geany (geany) 4) .... KDE on Fedora 30/31

Folk, A few versions of Fedora ago, I got a little frustrated with the way KDE was running on my laptop. I don't remember the actual problem, really. I think it had to do with not being able to download and install icons or themes or some other eyecandy; there was always some sort of failure. The upshot was that I was more loyal to my desktop than my distro and switched to KDEneon since it worked. But, I've always had a soft spot for Fedora; I've been using it off and on ever since it has existed (and Red Hat Linux or Mandrake before that). I'm getting the itch to give it a go again, probably when 31 is finalized. So... for the KDE users out there, how is Fedora doing with KDE nowadays? billo

rsync oddity

Hi all, when doing an rsync of /home to a remote host with options "--stats -av --hard-links --delete-during" I get sending incremental file list cannot delete non-empty directory: frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de/frank cannot delete non-empty directory: frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de/frank cannot delete non-empty directory: frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de This is strange because the directory does not exist # cd /home # file frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de: cannot open `frank/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/c64.shuttle.de' (No such file or directory) Can someone explain that? grub regression in f30

Bonjour, I have an nvidia graphic card and since at least f27 I had a high resolution (1280x1024) on the console screen during the boot. This is no more the case in f30. Why? I use the nvidia driver from rpm-fusion, nouveau does not work with my card. losetup failed to set up loop device while rescuing a SD card that does not mount

Hi, I have been trying to rescue the files from a SD card that is connected to a USB adapter, and that can not mount in the usual way because I guess it is corrupt (complains of no read-write permission even though the SD card is unlocked). Following the instructions here: https://blog.tinned-software.net/rescue-data-from-corrupt-sd-card/ I get: $ sudo ddrescue -f /dev/sda SD_card_rescue.log GNU ddrescue 1.23 Press Ctrl-C to interrupt ipos: 322563 kB, non-trimmed: 0 B, current rate: 64000 B/s opos: 322563 kB, non-scraped: 0 B, average rate: 1178 kB/s non-tried: 0 B, bad-sector: 19968 B, error rate: 0 B/s rescued: 8270 MB, bad areas: 26, run time: 1h 56m 58s pct rescued: 99.99%, read errors: 78, remaining time: 0s time since last successful read: n/a Finished However, when I try: $ sudo losetup -f -P SD_card_rescue.img losetup: SD_card_rescue.img: failed to set up loop device: No such file or directory Adding the full path name for the SD_card_rescue.img does not change the error. I looked around a bit and tried the following: https://askubuntu.com/questions/634501/cant-mount-iso-file-as-loop-device-e… It does not per se use losetup but I still get the same error. Hello, On my machine, I have crond and anacron running. I guess that I do not need crond. Is the only option to remove crontabs?
