F8 key not workingwith vncviewer??
by Michael D. Setzer II
Not sure when it stopped working, since don't use it often.
Had noticed that start of connections it was listing F8^M key??
Was trying to use it when connected to a windows machine, and nothing
happens. Then tried it on one of my other Fedora machines, and from a
terminal window it puts out a ~ each time the key was pressed, but no menu.
Connected to the same machines using a windows machine with tightvnc's
vncviewer, and the F8 key works perfectly.
I'v seen a similar problem with something in the past, where the files where
using the DOS CR/LF instead of the linux LF. In that case, just used the
dos2unix on source code and rebuilt.
This is a Fedora 30 machine fully updated.
The man and help for vncviewer doesn't appear to show any contact
addresses.
Did note that the default file in the .vnc directory was in DOS format, but
running dos2unix on it made no difference.
Note sure where to report this. Currently have to reboot machine into old
Windows 7 OS that was originally on notebook to use the F8 key..
Thanks.

Anybody need a ... ??
by Fred Smith
Hi!
We're cleaning house, trying to downsize so we can move into a
retirement community, so we're finding all sorts of stuff to get
rid of.
One thing I'm reluctant to throw out is my Multitech MT5600BA V90
modem.
I used it for dialup for several years before broadband became available
and it was great, stable, and fast. (its predecessor, a much-touted
consumer-grade V90 modem was unreliable and not great). I'm thinking we
are/were on an unstable copper pair, but the phone company said it was
fine.
So, anyway, I have this lovely industrial-strength modem I'd like to
provide someone, "free to a good home", if anyone has, or knows of
anyone who has, a use for a V90 modem.
Original packaging (including the floppy-based "drivers" for windoze! :) )
and a printout of the modem manual.
Anyone??
Thanks in advance!
Fred

How to set static IP when installing coreos from USB-stick?
by github@ulsholmen.se
Hi,
I'm trying to install fedora coreos on my server. I do not have a DHCP-server available but used static IP before (project atomic).
When booting coreos from USB-stick it is looking for a DHCP-server. When not found it fails. After a while it retries to get an IP-address.
I have tried to add a lease command to /etc/dhclient.conf like:
lease {
interface "eth0";
fixed-address 192.168.5.50;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option routers 192.168.5.10;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.5.10;
}
Then I killed the dhclient process and restarted it with same parameters as it was run before:
dhclient -4 -q -cf /etc/dhclient.conf -pf /tmp/dhclient.eth0.pid -lf /tmp/dhclient.eth0.lease eth0
But dhclient does not use the static configuration I have made and fails with a message like:
Could not find a valid lease.
What am I doing wrong here? Is there an easier way to force a static IP address? Can I stop the boot process and give some commands when loading the kernel?
Any ideas appreciated.
Best regards,
Jonny

Fedora upgrade to 30 sluggish X startup then upgrade to 31 grey
screen after login
by Mr Brian Domenick
Hi,
I have an Hp Spectre 360 from 2018 with intel integrated graphics. I am
using nouveau driver. The laptop runs generally fine but from version
30. It became slow to startup X and to get to the login screen. After
you login on 30 it takes longer to start desktop then it used to, but it
comes up and works fine. If i upgrade to 31, it takes a real long time
to get to the X login screen and after I login all I get is a grey
background. In this mode vty's are dead also. I have upgraded and
reinstalled several times. Interestingly on one occasion I was able to
login to 31 after a long delay and upgrade from 31 and I upgraded to
rawhide and that worked except there were other application issues that
made it a no go for me. After a number of reinstalls and upgrade tests
Fedora 31 will usually not work correctly for me. Any thoughts? This
laptop has been running Fedora since the day after it was purchased in
2018 with no problems.

by Philip Rhoades
People,
I did a dnf system-upgrade and now I get this before the completion of
each CLI command:
[phr@phil ~]$ ls
phr009D777;preexecphr009C',data=iris)'
.
.
- before I start hacking around, has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Phil.

permission woes with systemd
by sean darcy
I'm running asterisk, a telephony app, on Fedora 31.
If I start asterisk as user asterisk all goes well. But if I use
systemd, I get a bunch of permission problems.
asterisk[1411]: [Jan 21 19:36:47] ERROR[1411]: res_sorcery_config.c:320

ERROR[1411]: config_options.c:710 aco_process_config: Unable to load

asterisk[1411]: [Jan 21 19:36:47] ERROR[1411]: loader.c:2396
load_modules: app_confbridge declined to load.
In the app I can try to reload the modules:
module load res_xmpp.so
Unable to load module res_xmpp.so
Command 'module load res_xmpp.so' failed.
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/xmpp.conf': Not found (Permission denied)
module load res_stun_monitor.so
Unable to load module res_stun_monitor.so
Command 'module load res_stun_monitor.so' failed.
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/res_stun_monitor.conf': Not found
(Permission denied)
module load chan_iax2.so
Unable to load module chan_iax2.so
Command 'module load chan_iax2.so' failed.
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/iax.conf': Not found (Permission denied)
So it's a permission problem, But the files are all there, with
appropriate permissions (I think) :
ls -l /etc/asterisk | grep 'xmpp\|monitor\|iax\|confbridge'
-rw-r--r--. 1 asterisk asterisk 23674 Dec 12 19:54 confbridge.conf
-rw-r--r--. 1 asterisk asterisk 1250 Dec 12 19:54 iax.conf
-rw-r--r--. 1 asterisk asterisk 2401 Dec 19 18:30 iaxprov.conf
-rw-r--r--. 1 asterisk asterisk 1403 Dec 12 19:54 res_stun_monitor.conf
-rw-r--r--. 1 asterisk asterisk 2728 Dec 12 19:55 xmpp.conf
Here's the systemd service file:
cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/asterisk.service | grep -v '#'
[Unit]
Description=Asterisk PBX and telephony daemon.
After=nss-lookup.target
[Service]
Type=simple
Environment=HOME=/var/lib/asterisk
WorkingDirectory=/var/lib/asterisk
User=asterisk
Group=asterisk

ExecStop=/usr/sbin/asterisk -rx 'core stop now'
ExecReload=/usr/sbin/asterisk -rx 'core reload'
PrivateTmp=true
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
So why would starting asterisk as user asterisk work, but fail using
systemd ?
Any help appreciated.
sean
p.s. This is a cross post with asterisk user.

/etc/bash_completion.d/conda is missing
by Hiisi
Hello, list!
After running `conda init` each time I open a new terminal window I have
this message at the very first line:
bash: /etc/bash_completion.d/conda: No such file or directory
(base) [hiisi@localhost ~] $
Indeed, there's no such file. Which package provides that?
Thanks.
