Fedora Infrastructure issue 8824: test message.

I was asked by one of the people working Fedora Infrastructure issue #8824 ("posts submitted to Fedora Users List getting lost") to try sending a 'text only' email and see if that gets dropped. I logged out, logged in to my root account where the font is set to Free Serif (not a UKai font!). I made sure root's Thunderbird was set to text only (no HTMl) for sending messages. I shut down Thunderbird. I re-launched Thunderbird. This is the test message. To ensure a good test, it's a few paragraphs long with a few sentences in each paragraph. I wonder if this will reach the user's list. Are there any occurrences of upper case 'A' with a "hat" (circumflex) in this message. I did not put any. But they have been occurring between sentences. They only show up when the message is viewed with Thunderbird's "View Source" function. Time's up! Typing fingers down! Hand in the test!

Head up: selinux update trouble

hallo guys and dolls be aware trouble is in the air :-) : it just happens to me during commandline update 1 h ago that I updated to selinux-policy-3.14.5-35.fc32 it's marked as obsolete, but it was still available on the mirrors. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?search=selinux-policy&releases=F32 during update I got repeating error notifications from selinux troubeshooter, so I decided - I mean the update process mentioned that too - to autorelabel the box. That leads to the situation that I was unable login graphically (Gnome) ! my fix: booted with "selinux=0" and fetched the new selinux-policy-3.14.5-36.fc32 from here https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1491902 radicale needed a special treatment, but that fixed it -- sixpack13

Sizpack13/Samuel, Thanks for responding. This journal got jumbled somehow. I'm currently booted from a Live Fedora 31 system. I did this in the hope that the monitor would work. It did NOT. When I first connected this TV (2 years ago?) I did nothing special... it just worked. I have been running with kernel option "nomodeset" for a long time. Tried removing that with NO change in behavior. "stopped working" means: before power cycle, display worked perfectly, AFTER power cycle, TV had a box "NO SIGNAL" or "NO CONNECTION". I switched IDENTICAL CABLES with no change in behavior. Cables ARE DIRECTIONAL (Saphire 15'). Connected properly, i.e., arrows on both ends pointing AWAY from the computer. xrandr -q reports: HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) > what has happend between the working / non-working state ? just a power cycle > video related updates ? none that I know of. > video related BIOS settings still okay ? I made no changes. > settings from the TV still okay (maybe a hidden FW update) ? I made no changes or FW updates. How would that happen? upgrade attempts are failing.

(f30 -> f31; gnome) I tried to upgrade my system from f30 to f31 as per the instructions. I entered "dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=31" Failed. The results are in the first attachment (problem1.txt). As the dnf output suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31" Failed. The results are in the second attachment (problem2.txt). As the instructions suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31 --best" Failed. The results are in the third attachment (problem3.txt). As both the dnf output and the instructions suggested, I tried "dnf system-upgrade download --skip-broken --refresh --releasever=31 --best --allowerasing" Failed. The results are in the fourth attachment (problem4.txt). I'm stuck. How do I get this upgrade to work?

Hi, My HDMI to TV (Samsung) stopped working 2 days ago and I'm trying to find out how to test the port. This is a Fedora 33 (Rawhide) (x86_64) system. The cable is good... swapped with a known working cable. Directional 15' Saphire cables... have arrows and are pointing the right direction (away from the system, to the TV). Any hints/tips/suggestions would be beyond GREATLY appreciated. Best regards, George...

grub-customizer doesn't show entries... how do I remove phantom kernels ?

I have kernel entries in my grub menu that don't have corresponding rpms. Long story, don't ask. I want to remove these menu entries. For some reason grub-customizer doesn't show any kernel menu items. Rant: HDMI sound hasn't worked forever ! Huge PITA.

I love Linux/GNU/OS. Fedora rocks. I really appreciate the work the devs and support people do. But... I'm really losing my patience with the whole HDMI sound bug situation. It has been a problem since May, 2019 IIRC. It appears that one aspect gets fixed and that breaks something elsewhere. Can we not just revert the whole code in question to what it was back when it worked until someone has a chance to properly fix things ? As far as I am concerned things have gotten a lot worse. HDMI sound used to need resetting because it appeared the buffer got corrupted from time to time. Now it takes 5 minutes to get sound working at all and this has to be repeated every time you log out or the computer goes to sleep. LG

anybody using IceCat ?

I installed the new version of IceCat. I know nothing about IceCat, and had only briefly tried it once about 2 years ago in another distro. I looks like it will not allow me to log into Google. I use Google extensively. I think that it forces you ( out of the box ) to watch YouTube videos on ViewTube. CNN was all garbled mess, unusable. I assume IceCat is for those that like to go to the seedy places on the web, so I "tested" that, and the page I went to would not play videos. So, that was the extent of my 2020 IceCat experience. It just felt like something pre-NetScape from 1995. I will revisit it again someday. I have the new Firefox 75 ( in Rawhide ), and so I am enjoying the latest wayland improvements. I can only guess that IceCat will be this good in about 5 years. Right ? Feel free to correct me, as I really do not know what the heck I am talking about. David Locklear
