should ABRT catch Chromium browser?
by lejeczek
Hi guys.
Anybody may know if ABRT should should detect & report
Chromium problems?
I have Chromium unusable - a few seconds after start it dies
- but ABRT does not show any problems (any problems at all
for that matter)
I'm on f33 with 'testing' repos enabled.

safe to make evolution extinct?
by home user
(f32, preparing to upgrade to f33; Gnome)
I notice in the process table of ksysguard these 4 processes:
- evolution-source-registry
- evolution-alarm-notify
- evolution-addressbook-factory
- evolution-calendar-factory
They are all owned by me (the non-admin user), not me (root). I did not
knowingly start them. I don't recall installing them, so I'm guessing
they come standard with either fedora or Gnome, or one of the other
desktop environments. dnf tells me what software dependencies there
are, but what about data dependencies? If I "dnf remove evolution",
will I mess up anything else because of dependencies that dnf does not
know about?
thanks,
Bill.

pipewire testing
by Steve Underwood
Hi,
By following the information at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/DefaultPipeWire pipewire is
working OK for pulseaudio applications on my Fedora 33 machine. However,
when I follow the instruction to install the pipewire-libjack RPM, dnf
tries to reinstall some of the pulseaudio packages, and downgrade the
pipewire packages. I didn't let it proceed. After a search it seems I
need to install the pipewire-jack-audio-connection-kit RPM. This seems
to work OK. Have the packages changed, without
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/DefaultPipeWire being updated?

"less" and "gpg" question
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
I encrypted a file with
gpg --symmetric foobar.txt
It created foobar.txt.gpg file as expected
and I DID NOT tell it to store the passphrase.
$ cat foobar.txt.gpg
clearly showed a binary file.
When I ran
$less foobar.txt.gpg
it showed me the recovered file without encryption
and DID NOT ask me for a passphrase.
When I renamed the foobar.txt.gpg to foobar.txt
and ran "less" on it, now I get a binary file.
renaming it back to gpg and now it gets decrypted
again.
HOW DID LESS figure out my key and decrypt my file?
Are there are gpg keys stored somewhere" How do
I whack (erase) them?
Many thanks,
-T

XPS 13 2-in-1 Fedora Linux 34 Tablet Mode
by Leander Hutton
Hell all, I have a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 that I've upgraded to the FL34 beta to test on and it's tablet mode no longer works.
Standard workstation version with GNOME 40. The option in the top right menu for orientation lock is gone, folding the machine over in half does not cause it to switch into tablet mode like it did in Fedora 33. Screen rotation doesn't work at all anymore. I'm running Wayland in both cases (33 and 34).
Anyone else with a similar style machine (Lenovo Yoga comes to mind) and 34 having luck with switching to tablet mode? Are there additional packages needed for convertibles now in GNOME 40? It's always worked right out of the box with Fedora since I've had the machine. As far as I can tell iio-sensor-proxy is running and monitor-sensor shows it detecting orientation changes, GNOME 40 just doesn't react to them.
Thanks!
Leander

Unable to mount USB connected hard drive.
by Erik P. Olsen
I've had this 1 TB drive for about 1 year and have been using it succesfully for backups
of my anf my wife's systems and suddenly yesterday morning I was unable to mount it.
Neither fdisk nor gparted can see it but lsusb can:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bc2:ab26 Seagate RSS LLC Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive 1 TB
On trying to mount I get this error message:
mount: /backupdev: cannot read the superblock on /dev/sdc1
Is the drive a brick or can I perhaps regenerate the superblock somehow?

apache requireany and htaccess
by Alex
Hi,
I have a fedora33 system with apache 2.4.46 and trying to set up a web
page that is only accessible to a select group of IPs defined in an
.htaccess file in the directory where the web page resides. How can I
do this?
I've read the apache htaccess howto and it really seems related only
to user authentication.
How can I move the RequireAny section into an htaccess file? This will
make it easier to make IP changes without having to reload apache.

can't remove eclipses.
by home user
(f32, preparing to upgrade to f33; Gnome)
A long time ago, almost certainly using dnf or yum, I installed
"Eclipse" and something that starts with "Eclipse C/C++".
When I try to remove Eclipse, I get:
------
-bash.2[~]: dnf remove Eclipse
No match for argument: Eclipse
No packages marked for removal.
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Complete!
-bash.3[~]:
-----
When I try "properties" to get the full name of what starts with
"Eclipse C/C++", I get "Sorry! There are no details for that appliation.".
How do I remove these applications that I never use?
Thank-you in advance.
Bill.

NetBeans problem - related to Flatpak?
by Matti Pulkkinen
Hello!
I've run into a problem with NetBeans and Maven. Maven will start
downloading and processing its central repository index, and the
process will fail with a message saying the device ran out of space.
I've monitored resources while this is going on, and my computer runs
out of neither RAM nor storage space while this is happening.
Now I know this isn't a Fedora package (it's from Flathub; NetBeans
isn't available in Fedora) so I'm not asking for support here
necessarily. I'm just wondering whether this issue could be caused by
Flatpak. Does Flatpak somehow space-constrain applications? This would
be nice to know before I go trying to report the issue to Apache
because the Flatpak is not officially distributed or supported by
Apache.

Bad JSON format for 'lshw'
by Digimer
I tried to submit this as a ticket to
https://ezix.org/project/newticket#ticket but it wouldn't accept the
captcha test. Posting here in case I can get to the 'lshw' dev (or
package maintainer) through Fedora. This is tested on Fedora 33 (and
CentOS Stream 8, fwiw).
I'm working on a program to process lshw data, and the XML data is fine,
but the JSON output format is invalid.
Example in XML;
